King Solomon, however, loved many foreign women besides Pharaoh’s daughter—Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians and Hittites.

Но, кроме дочери фараона, царь Сулейман полюбил ещё много других чужеземных женщин – моавитянок, аммонитянок, эдомитянок, сидонянок и хеттеянок.

They were from nations about which the Lord had told the Israelites, “You must not intermarry with them, because they will surely turn your hearts after their gods.” Nevertheless, Solomon held fast to them in love.

Они были из тех народов, о которых Вечный сказал исраильтянам: «Не роднитесь с ними браком, потому что они непременно обратят ваше сердце к своим богам». А Сулеймана тянуло к ним.

He had seven hundred wives of royal birth and three hundred concubines, and his wives led him astray.

У него было семьсот жён царского рода и триста наложниц, и жёны сбили его с истинного пути.

As Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods, and his heart was not fully devoted to the Lord his God, as the heart of David his father had been.

Когда Сулейман состарился, жёны обратили его сердце к чужим богам, и оно перестало быть полностью преданным Вечному, его Богу, каким было сердце Давуда, его отца.

He followed Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, and Molek the detestable god of the Ammonites.

Он пошёл за Астартой^[a], богиней сидонян, и Молохом^[b], омерзительным богом аммонитян.

So Solomon did evil in the eyes of the Lord; he did not follow the Lord completely, as David his father had done.

Сулейман делал зло в глазах Вечного, он не следовал за Вечным полностью, как Давуд, его отец.

On a hill east of Jerusalem, Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the detestable god of Moab, and for Molek the detestable god of the Ammonites.

На холме, к востоку от Иерусалима, Сулейман построил капище Хемошу^[c], омерзительному богу Моава, и Молоху, омерзительному богу аммонитян.

He did the same for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and offered sacrifices to their gods.

То же самое он сделал для всех чужеземных жён, которые возжигали благовония и приносили жертвы своим богам.

The Lord became angry with Solomon because his heart had turned away from the Lord, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice.

Вечный разгневался на Сулеймана, потому что его сердце отвернулось от Вечного, Бога Исраила, который дважды являлся ему.

Although he had forbidden Solomon to follow other gods, Solomon did not keep the Lord’s command.

Несмотря на то что Он запретил Сулейману идти за чужими богами, Сулейман не выполнил повеления Вечного.

So the Lord said to Solomon, “Since this is your attitude and you have not kept my covenant and my decrees, which I commanded you, I will most certainly tear the kingdom away from you and give it to one of your subordinates.

И Вечный сказал Сулейману:

– Раз ты не сохранил Моего священного соглашения и Моих установлений, которые Я повелел тебе соблюдать, Я непременно отниму у тебя царство и отдам его одному из твоих подданных.

Nevertheless, for the sake of David your father, I will not do it during your lifetime. I will tear it out of the hand of your son.

Но ради Давуда, твоего отца, Я не сделаю этого при твоей жизни. Я вырву его из рук твоего сына.

Yet I will not tear the whole kingdom from him, but will give him one tribe for the sake of David my servant and for the sake of Jerusalem, which I have chosen.”

Solomon’s Adversaries

Но Я отниму у него не всё царство. Я оставлю ему один род ради Давуда, Моего раба, и ради Иерусалима, который Я избрал.

Then the Lord raised up against Solomon an adversary, Hadad the Edomite, from the royal line of Edom.

И Вечный воздвиг Сулейману врага – эдомитянина Хадада из царской семьи Эдома.

Earlier when David was fighting with Edom, Joab the commander of the army, who had gone up to bury the dead, had struck down all the men in Edom.

Прежде, когда Давуд был в Эдоме, начальник войска Иоав пришёл хоронить погибших и перебил в Эдоме всех мужчин.

Joab and all the Israelites stayed there for six months, until they had destroyed all the men in Edom.

Иоав и все исраильтяне оставались там шесть месяцев, пока не истребили в Эдоме всех мужчин.

But Hadad, still only a boy, fled to Egypt with some Edomite officials who had served his father.

Но Хадад, тогда ещё лишь ребёнок, бежал в Египет с некоторыми эдомскими вельможами, служившими его отцу.

They set out from Midian and went to Paran. Then taking people from Paran with them, they went to Egypt, to Pharaoh king of Egypt, who gave Hadad a house and land and provided him with food.

Они отправились в путь из Мадиана и пришли в пустыню Паран. Взяв с собой людей из Парана, они пришли в Египет, к фараону, царю Египта, который дал Хададу дом, пропитание и землю.

Pharaoh was so pleased with Hadad that he gave him a sister of his own wife, Queen Tahpenes, in marriage.

Хадад был так угоден фараону, что он дал ему в жёны сестру своей жены, царицы Тахпенесы.

The sister of Tahpenes bore him a son named Genubath, whom Tahpenes brought up in the royal palace. There Genubath lived with Pharaoh’s own children.

Сестра Тахпенесы родила ему сына Генувата, которого Тахпенеса вырастила в царском дворце. Генуват жил там вместе с детьми фараона.

While he was in Egypt, Hadad heard that David rested with his ancestors and that Joab the commander of the army was also dead. Then Hadad said to Pharaoh, “Let me go, that I may return to my own country.”

Будучи в Египте, Хадад услышал о том, что Давуд упокоился со своими предками и что начальник войска Иоав умер. Тогда Хадад сказал фараону:

– Отпусти меня в мою страну.

“What have you lacked here that you want to go back to your own country?” Pharaoh asked.

“Nothing,” Hadad replied, “but do let me go!”

– Чего тебе недостаёт у меня, что ты так хочешь вернуться в свою страну? – спросил фараон.

– Всего вдоволь, – ответил Хадад, – но всё-таки отпусти меня!

And God raised up against Solomon another adversary, Rezon son of Eliada, who had fled from his master, Hadadezer king of Zobah.

Всевышний воздвиг Сулейману и другого врага – Резона, сына Элиады, который убежал от своего господина Ададезера, царя Цовы.

When David destroyed Zobah’s army, Rezon gathered a band of men around him and became their leader; they went to Damascus, where they settled and took control.

После того как Давуд разбил войска Цовы, Резон собрал вокруг себя бунтовщиков и возглавил их. Они пришли в Дамаск, поселились там и сделали его царём Дамаска.

Rezon was Israel’s adversary as long as Solomon lived, adding to the trouble caused by Hadad. So Rezon ruled in Aram and was hostile toward Israel.

Jeroboam Rebels Against Solomon

Резон был врагом Исраила всё время, пока был жив Сулейман, умножая зло, чинимое Хададом. Он правил Сирией и презирал Исраил.

Also, Jeroboam son of Nebat rebelled against the king. He was one of Solomon’s officials, an Ephraimite from Zeredah, and his mother was a widow named Zeruah.

Иеровоам, сын Невата, поднял мятеж против царя. Он был одним из приближённых Сулеймана, ефраимит из города Цереды, а матерью его была вдова по имени Церуа.

Here is the account of how he rebelled against the king: Solomon had built the terraces^[a] and had filled in the gap in the wall of the city of David his father.

Вот история о том, как он поднял мятеж против царя: Сулейман построил Милло и заделал брешь в стене Города Давуда, своего отца.

Now Jeroboam was a man of standing, and when Solomon saw how well the young man did his work, he put him in charge of the whole labor force of the tribes of Joseph.

А Иеровоам был очень способным, и когда Сулейман заметил, как хорошо этот молодой человек исполняет свою работу, он поставил его над всеми подневольными людьми из дома Юсуфа.

About that time Jeroboam was going out of Jerusalem, and Ahijah the prophet of Shiloh met him on the way, wearing a new cloak. The two of them were alone out in the country,

В то время Иеровоаму случилось выйти из Иерусалима, и на пути его встретил пророк Ахия из города Шило, одетый в новую одежду. Они были в том поле лишь вдвоём,

and Ahijah took hold of the new cloak he was wearing and tore it into twelve pieces.

и Ахия, взявшись за новую одежду, что была на нём, разорвал её на двенадцать кусков.

Then he said to Jeroboam, “Take ten pieces for yourself, for this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘See, I am going to tear the kingdom out of Solomon’s hand and give you ten tribes.

Затем он сказал Иеровоаму:

– Возьми десять кусков себе, потому что так говорит Вечный, Бог Исраила: «Вот, Я вырываю царство из рук Сулеймана и отдаю тебе десять родов.

But for the sake of my servant David and the city of Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, he will have one tribe.

Но ради Моего раба Давуда и города Иерусалима, который Я избрал среди всех родов Исраила, у него будет один род.

I will do this because they have^[b] forsaken me and worshiped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, Chemosh the god of the Moabites, and Molek the god of the Ammonites, and have not walked in obedience to me, nor done what is right in my eyes, nor kept my decrees and laws as David, Solomon’s father, did.

Я сделаю это, потому что он оставил Меня и поклонялся Астарте, богине сидонян, Хемошу, богу моавитян, и Молоху, богу аммонитян, и не следовал Моими путями, не делал того, что праведно в Моих глазах, и не соблюдал Мои установления и законы, как делал Давуд, его отец.

“‘But I will not take the whole kingdom out of Solomon’s hand; I have made him ruler all the days of his life for the sake of David my servant, whom I chose and who obeyed my commands and decrees.

Но Я заберу из рук Сулеймана не всё царство. Я сделал его правителем во все дни его жизни ради Давуда, Моего раба, которого Я избрал и который исполнял Мои повеления и установления.

I will take the kingdom from his son’s hands and give you ten tribes.

Я возьму царство из рук его сына и отдам тебе десять родов.

I will give one tribe to his son so that David my servant may always have a lamp before me in Jerusalem, the city where I chose to put my Name.

Я дам один род его сыну, чтобы у Давуда, Моего раба, всегда был потомок на троне^[d] в Иерусалиме, в городе, который Я избрал, чтобы пребывать там.

However, as for you, I will take you, and you will rule over all that your heart desires; you will be king over Israel.

А тебя Я избираю, и ты будешь править всем, чем пожелает править твоё сердце, – ты будешь царём Исраила.

If you do whatever I command you and walk in obedience to me and do what is right in my eyes by obeying my decrees and commands, as David my servant did, I will be with you. I will build you a dynasty as enduring as the one I built for David and will give Israel to you.

Если ты будешь исполнять всё, что Я тебе велю, ходить Моими путями и делать то, что праведно в Моих глазах, исполняя Мои установления и повеления, как делал Мой раб Давуд, то Я буду с тобой. Я создам тебе такой же крепкий дом, как тот, что Я создал Давуду, и отдам тебе Исраил.

I will humble David’s descendants because of this, but not forever.’”

Я накажу потомков Давуда, но не навеки».

Solomon tried to kill Jeroboam, but Jeroboam fled to Egypt, to Shishak the king, and stayed there until Solomon’s death.

Solomon’s Death

Сулейман пытался убить Иеровоама, но Иеровоам бежал в Египет к царю Сусакиму и оставался там до смерти Сулеймана.

As for the other events of Solomon’s reign—all he did and the wisdom he displayed—are they not written in the book of the annals of Solomon?

Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel forty years.

Сулейман правил в Иерусалиме всем Исраилом сорок лет.

Then he rested with his ancestors and was buried in the city of David his father. And Rehoboam his son succeeded him as king.

Потом он упокоился со своими предками и был похоронен в Городе Давуда, своего отца. И царём вместо него стал его сын Реховоам.
