Nehemiah 5:9

So I said, “What you are doing is not good. Should you not walk in the fear of our God to prevent the taunting by the [pagan] nations, our enemies?

Also I said, It is not good that ye do: ought ye not to walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the heathen our enemies?

“What you’re doing is wrong. Is there no fear of God left in you? Don’t you care what the nations around here, our enemies, think of you? 10-11 “I and my brothers and the people working for me have also loaned them money. But this gouging them with interest has to stop. Give them back their foreclosed fields, vineyards, olive groves, and homes right now. And forgive your claims on their money, grain, new wine, and olive oil.” 12-13 They said, “We’ll give it all back. We won’t make any more demands on them. We’ll do everything you say.”Then I called the priests together and made them promise to keep their word. Then I emptied my pockets, turning them inside out, and said, “So may God empty the pockets and house of everyone who doesn’t keep this promise—turned inside out and emptied.”Everyone gave a wholehearted “Yes, we’ll do it!” and praised God. And the people did what they promised. “Remember in My Favor, O My God”14-16 From the time King Artaxerxes appointed me as their governor in the land of Judah—from the twentieth to the thirty-second year of his reign, twelve years—neither I nor my brothers used the governor’s food allowance. Governors who had preceded me had oppressed the people by taxing them forty shekels of silver (about a pound) a day for food and wine while their underlings bullied the people unmercifully. But out of fear of God I did none of that. I had work to do; I worked on this wall. All my men were on the job to do the work. We didn’t have time to line our own pockets. 17-18 I fed 150 Jews and officials at my table in addition to those who showed up from the surrounding nations. One ox, six choice sheep, and some chickens were prepared for me daily, and every ten days a large supply of wine was delivered. Even so, I didn’t use the food allowance provided for the governor—the people had it hard enough as it was.

Again I said, “The thing which you are doing is not good; should you not walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the nations, our enemies?

So I continued, “What you are doing isn’t right. Shouldn’t you show respect for our God? Shouldn’t you live in a way that will keep our enemies from saying bad things about us?

So I continued, “What you are doing is not right. Shouldn’t you walk in the fear of our God to avoid the reproach of our Gentile enemies?

So I continued, ‘What you are doing is not right. Shouldn’t you walk in the fear of our God to avoid the reproach of our Gentile enemies?

Then I pressed further, “What you are doing is not right! Should you not walk in the fear of our God in order to avoid being mocked by enemy nations?

ثُمَّ اسْتَطْرَدْتُ: «هَذَا تَصَرُّفٌ سَيِّئٌ. أَلا تَسْلُكُونَ فِي خَوْفِ إِلَهِنَا تَفَادِياً لِتَعْيِيرِ الأُمَمِ أَعْدَائِنَا؟

Så fortsatte jeg: „I kan ikke være bekendt at opføre jer på den måde! Har I slet ingen ærefrygt for Gud? Er det ikke nok, at vi har fjender, der udefra prøver at komme os til livs?

Ich fuhr fort: »Ihr begeht ein großes Unrecht! Warum gehorcht ihr Gott nicht und tut, was recht ist? Ihr macht uns zum Gespött unserer Feinde!

Yo añadí:―Lo que estáis haciendo no está bien. ¿No deberíais mostrar la debida reverencia a nuestro Dios y evitar así el reproche de los paganos, nuestros enemigos?

J’ajoutai : Ce que vous faites là n’est pas bien. Ne devriez-vous pas vivre comme des gens qui craignent notre Dieu pour ne pas donner à nos ennemis des autres peuples, l’occasion de nous couvrir de honte ?

Nagpadayon ako sa paghambal, “Indi maayo ang inyo ginahimo. Dapat kuntani magkabuhi kamo nga may kahadlok sa Dios agod indi kita pagyagutaon sang iban nga mga nasyon nga aton kaaway.

私は続けました。「君たちのしていることは、非常に恐ろしいことだ。いったい、神様を恐れる気持ちがあるのか。回りには、私たちを滅ぼそうとすきをうかがう敵がうごめいているではないか。

그때 나는 다시 말을 이었다. “여러분의 소행이 옳지 못합니다. 여러분은 마땅히 하나님을 두려워하고 옳은 일을 해야만 합니다. 그러면 우리 원수인 이방 사람들에게 우리를 비웃을 구실을 주지 않을 것입니다.

Toen vervolgde ik: ‘Wat u doet, is niet goed. U moet eerbied hebben voor God. Wat zullen onze heidense vijanden van ons zeggen?

Por isso prossegui: O que vocês estão fazendo não está certo. Vocês devem andar no temor do nosso Deus para evitar a zombaria dos outros povos, os nossos inimigos.

E continuei a dirigir-me a eles: “O que estão a fazer é mau! Não deveriam vocês viver no temor do nosso Deus? Não temos nós já bastantes inimigos entre as nações que nos rodeiam e zombam de nós?

– Ce faceţi voi nu este bine, am mai zis eu. N-ar trebui voi să umblaţi în frică de Dumnezeul nostru, ca să nu fiţi de ruşinea neamurilor vrăjmaşe nouă?

Тогда я сказал:– То, что вы делаете, – нехорошо. Разве вы не должны ходить в страхе нашего Бога, чтобы избежать порицания наших врагов-язычников?

Då fortsatte jag: ”Det ni gör är inte rätt. Ni borde leva i fruktan för vår Gud och inte ge de främmande folken, våra fiender, anledning att håna oss.

ข้าพเจ้าจึงพูดต่อไปว่า “สิ่งที่พวกท่านทำอยู่นี้ไม่ถูกต้อง ท่านควรจะดำเนินชีวิตด้วยความยำเกรงพระเจ้าของพวกเราไม่ใช่หรือ? จะได้ไม่เป็นที่ตำหนิติเตียนของศัตรูต่างชาติ

我继续说：“你们的所作所为实在不对。难道你们不应该敬畏上帝，以免我们的仇敌凌辱我们吗？

我 又 说 ： 你 们 所 行 的 不 善 ！ 你 们 行 事 不 当 敬 畏 我 们 的 神 麽 ？ 不 然 ， 难 免 我 们 的 仇 敌 外 邦 人 毁 谤 我 们 。

我繼續說：「你們的所作所為實在不對。難道你們不應該敬畏上帝，以免我們的仇敵凌辱我們嗎？
