Leviticus 21:1

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Speak to the priests, the sons of Aaron, and say to them:‘No one shall defile himself [that is, become ceremonially unclean] for the dead among his people [by touching a corpse or assisting in preparing it for burial],

And the Lord said unto Moses, Speak unto the priests the sons of Aaron, and say unto them, There shall none be defiled for the dead among his people:

1-4 God spoke to Moses: “Speak to the priests, the sons of Aaron. Tell them, A priest must not ritually contaminate himself by touching the dead, except for close relatives: mother, father, son, daughter, brother, or an unmarried sister who is dependent on him since she has no husband; for these he may make himself ritually unclean, but he must not contaminate himself with the dead who are only related to him by marriage and thus profane himself.

وَقَالَ الرَّبُّ لِمُوسَى: «أَوْصِ الْكَهَنَةَ أَبْنَاءَ هَرُونَ أَلّا يُنَجِّسَ أَحَدٌ مِنْهُمْ نَفْسَهُ بِلَمْسِ جُثَّةِ مَيْتٍ مِنْ قَوْمِهِ،

Herren sagde endvidere til Moses: „Sig til præsterne, at de ikke må gøre sig selv urene ved at røre et lig, 2-3 medmindre det drejer sig om en nær slægtning: en mor, en far, en søn, en datter, en bror eller en ugift søster, som han har ansvaret for, siden hun ikke har nogen mand.
