Then the king sent an answer to Rehum the [Persian] commander, to Shimshai the scribe, and to the rest of their colleagues who live in Samaria and in the rest of the provinces west of the River: “Peace (Greetings). And now,

The king replied,I am writing this letter to Rehum, the commanding officer. I am also writing it to Shimshai the secretary. And I am writing it to your friends living in Samaria and in other places west of the Euphrates River.I give you my greetings.

فَبَعَثَ الْمَلِكُ جَوَاباً إِلَى رَحُومَ الْوَالِي وَشِمْشَايَ الْكَاتِبِ وَسَائِرِ رُفَقَائِهِمَا الْمُقِيمِينَ فِي السَّامِرَةِ وَإِلَى بَاقِي الْقَاطِنِينَ فِي عَبْرِ نَهْرِ الْفُرَاتِ، قَالَ فِيهَا: «سَلامٌ وَبَعْدُ،
