Ecclesiastes 9:11

I again saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift and the battle is not to the strong, and neither is bread to the wise nor riches to those of intelligence and understanding nor favor to men of ability; but time and chance overtake them all.

I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.

I took another walk around the neighborhood and realized that on this earth as it is—The race is not always to the swift,Nor the battle to the strong,Nor satisfaction to the wise,Nor riches to the smart,Nor grace to the learned.Sooner or later bad luck hits us all.

I again saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift and the battle is not to the warriors, and neither is bread to the wise nor wealth to the discerning nor favor to men of ability; for time and chance overtake them all.

Here’s something else I’ve seen on this earth.Races aren’t always won by those who run fast. Battles aren’t always won by those who are strong.Wise people don’t always have plenty of food. Clever people aren’t always wealthy. Those who have learned a lot aren’t always successful.God controls the timing of every event. He also controls how things turn out.

I have seen something else under the sun:The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong,nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned;but time and chance happen to them all.

I have observed something else under the sun. The fastest runner doesn’t always win the race, and the strongest warrior doesn’t always win the battle. The wise sometimes go hungry, and the skillful are not necessarily wealthy. And those who are educated don’t always lead successful lives. It is all decided by chance, by being in the right place at the right time.

وَتَطَلَّعْتُ فَرَأَيْتُ شَيْئاً آخَرَ تَحْتَ الشَّمْسِ: إِنَّ الْفَوْزَ فِي السِّبَاقِ لَيْسَ لِلسَّرِيعِ، وَالظَّفَرَ فِي الْمَعْرَكَةِ لَيْسَ لِلأَقْوِيَاءِ، وَلا الْخُبْزَ مِنْ نَصِيبِ الْحُكَمَاءِ، وَلا الغِنَى لِذَوِي الْفَهْمِ، وَلا الْحُظْوَةَ لِلْعُلَمَاءِ، لأَنَّهُمْ كَافَّةً مُعَرَّضُونَ لِتَقَلُّبَاتِ الأَوْقَاتِ وَالْمُفَاجَآتِ،

Der er en anden ting, jeg har lagt mærke til: Det er ikke altid den hurtigste, der i sidste ende vinder løbet, og det er ikke altid den stærkeste, der går sejrende ud af kampen. Den vise er ikke altid mæt, den dygtige ikke nødvendigvis rig, og den bedste ikke sikker på forfremmelse. Livet er et spil af tilfældigheder, et spørgsmål om rette tid og sted.

Ich habe beobachtet, wie es auf dieser Welt zugeht: Es sind nicht in jedem Fall die Schnellsten, die den Wettlauf gewinnen, oder die Stärksten, die den Krieg für sich entscheiden. Weisheit garantiert noch keinen Lebensunterhalt, Klugheit führt nicht immer zu Reichtum, und die Verständigen sind nicht unbedingt beliebt. Sie alle sind der Zeit und dem Zufall ausgeliefert.

Me fijé en que en esta vida la carrera no la ganan los más veloces, ni ganan la batalla los más valientes; que tampoco los sabios tienen qué comer, ni los inteligentes abundan en dinero, ni los instruidos gozan de simpatía, sino que a todos les llegan buenos y malos tiempos.

J’ai encore observé, sous le soleil, que ce ne sont pas les plus agiles qui gagnent la course, ni les plus forts qui remportent la victoire au combat, ce ne sont pas les sages qui ont du pain, et la richesse n’appartient pas aux hommes intelligents, et les faveurs ne récompensent pas les plus savants, car les contretemps et les coups durs imprévus atteignent chacun[d].

私は再び今の世を見て、足の速い人が必ずしも競走で勝つとは限らず、強い人が必ずしも戦いに勝つわけでもなく、知恵ある人が貧しい暮らしをし、実力があるのに認められない人がいることを知りました。あらゆることが偶然の組み合わせであり、すべては時と機会とによって決まるのです。

내가 세상을 살펴보니 빨리 달리는 사람이라고 해서 경주에서 언제나 일등을 하는 것은 아니며 강하다고 해서 언제나 전쟁에서 승리하는 것이 아니다. 지혜로운 사람이라고 해서 언제나 생활비를 많이 버는 것이 아니며 총명한 사람이라고 해서 언제나 부를 얻는 것도 아니고 유능하다고 해서 언제나 높은 지위를 얻는 것이 아니다. [b]이것은 사람에게 뜻하지 않은 일이 일어나기 때문이다.

Opnieuw keek ik over de aarde en ik zag dat de snelste man niet altijd de wedstrijd wint, dat de sterkste niet altijd als overwinnaar uit de strijd komt, dat wijze mensen vaak arm zijn en mensen met grote vaardigheden niet als vanzelfsprekend beroemd zijn. Alles komt neer op geluk, op het juiste moment op de juiste plaats zijn.

Percebi ainda outra coisa debaixo do sol:Os velozes nem sempre vencem a corrida;os fortes nem sempre triunfam na guerra;os sábios nem sempre têm comida;os prudentes nem sempre são ricos;os instruídos nem sempre têm prestígio; pois o tempo e o acaso afetam a todos.

Voltei-me de novo para o que se passa sobre a face da Terra e vi que os que correm mais rápido não são sempre os que ganham as corridas, nem são os mais fortes que ganham sempre as batalhas. Também vi que os homens mais sábios são frequentemente pobres e que os mais capazes não são necessariamente famosos; o tempo e a sorte sobrevêm a todos.

Apoi m-am întors şi am văzut că, sub soare,nu cei sprinteni câştigă alergarea şi nu cei puternici câştigă războiul;nu cei înţelepţi au parte de pâine, nu cei iscusiţi îşi însuşesc bogăţiişi nu cei cunoscători au parte de bunăvoinţă, ci toate ţin de vreme şi de împrejurări.

И ещё кое-что я видел под солнцем:не обязательно в беге побеждают быстрые, а в битве – храбрые,не всегда у мудрых есть хлеб, а у разумных – богатство,как не всегда образованные пользуются благосклонностью, потому что всё зависит от времени и случая.

Vidare såg jag under solen: Det är inte de snabba som vinner loppet eller den starkaste som segrar i striden, inte heller de visa som har bröd, inte de kloka som blir rika och inte de lärda som lyckas. Nej, alla är de beroende av rätt tid och tillfälle.

ข้าพเจ้าเห็นสิ่งอื่นอีกภายใต้ดวงอาทิตย์คือคนว่องไวไม่ชนะการวิ่งแข่งเสมอไปคนเข้มแข็งไม่ชนะศึกเสมอไปหรือใช่ว่าคนฉลาดจะได้อาหารใช่ว่าคนปราดเปรื่องจะได้ทรัพย์สมบัติและใช่ว่าผู้รู้จะได้รับความโปรดปรานแต่เวลาและโอกาสมาถึงพวกเขาทุกคน

我又发现，日光之下，跑得快的未必能得奖，强大的未必能得胜，智者未必得温饱，聪明人未必有财富，博学者未必受爱戴，因为时机和境遇左右众人。

我 又 转 念 ： 见 日 光 之 下 ， 快 跑 的 未 必 能 赢 ； 力 战 的 未 必 得 胜 ； 智 慧 的 未 必 得 粮 食 ； 明 哲 的 未 必 得 资 财 ； 灵 巧 的 未 必 得 喜 悦 。 所 临 到 众 人 的 是 在 乎 当 时 的 机 会 。

我又發現，日光之下，跑得快的未必能得獎，強大的未必能得勝，智者未必得溫飽，聰明人未必有財富，博學者未必受愛戴，因為時機和境遇左右眾人。
