Ecclesiastes 9:1

For I have taken all this to heart, exploring and examining it all, how the righteous (those in right standing with God) and the wise and their deeds are in the hands of God. No man knows whether it will be love or hatred; anything awaits him.

For all this I considered in my heart even to declare all this, that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God: no man knoweth either love or hatred by all that is before them.

1-3 Well, I took all this in and thought it through, inside and out. Here’s what I understood: The good, the wise, and all that they do are in God’s hands—but, day by day, whether it’s love or hate they’re dealing with, they don’t know.Anything’s possible. It’s one fate for everybody—righteous and wicked, good people, bad people, the nice and the nasty, worshipers and non-worshipers, committed and uncommitted. I find this outrageous—the worst thing about living on this earth—that everyone’s lumped together in one fate. Is it any wonder that so many people are obsessed with evil? Is it any wonder that people go crazy right and left? Life leads to death. That’s it. Seize Life!4-6 Still, anyone selected out for life has hope, for, as they say, “A living dog is better than a dead lion.” The living at least know something, even if it’s only that they’re going to die. But the dead know nothing and get nothing. They’re a minus that no one remembers. Their loves, their hates, yes, even their dreams, are long gone. There’s not a trace of them left in the affairs of this earth.

I thought about all these things. I realized that those who are wise and do what is right are under God’s control. What they do is also under his control. But no one knows whether they will be loved or hated.

Jeg tænkte dybt og længe for at forstå det. Til sidst måtte jeg erkende, at selv de retskafne og vise menneskers liv er i Guds hånd. Der er ingen, der ved, hvilken skæbne der venter dem, om de kommer til at opleve lykke eller ulykke.

私は注意深く、次のことも探求してみました。神を敬う人も知恵のある人も神の計画の中にありますが、神がその人のことを喜んでいるかどうかは、だれにもわかりません。確かなことは何も言えないのです。 2-3 善人でも悪人でも、信仰がある人もない人も、神をののしる者も神を敬う者も、どんな人も、同じ摂理で動かされています。すべての人に同じ結末が来るとは、なんと不公平でしょう。だからこそ、人は正しく生きようとはせず、常軌を逸した道を選ぶのです。待ちかまえているのは死だけですから、希望などありません。

나는 신중하게 모든 일을 살펴보고 의로운 사람이나 지혜로운 사람이나 그 들이 하는 모든 일이 하나님의 손에 달려 있다는 결론을 내렸다. 그러나 사람은 자기에게 기다리고 있는 것이 사랑인지 미움인지 알지 못한다.

Ook dit onderzocht ik grondig: het feit dat gelovige en wijze mensen afhankelijk zijn van Gods wil, niemand weet of hij liefde of haat zal ontmoeten. Men weet niets van tevoren.

Allt detta har jag begrundat och kommit fram till: De rättfärdiga och visa och deras gärningar är i Guds hand. Om en människa har kärlek eller hat framför sig vet hon inte.

我仔細思想、探究這些事，就知道義人、智者及他們的行事為人都由上帝掌管，人無法知道前面等待自己的是愛還是恨。
