Deuteronomy 9:4

“Do not say in your heart when the Lord your God has driven them out before you, ‘Because of my righteousness the Lord has brought me in to possess this land,’ but because of the wickedness of these nations the Lord is dispossessing them before you.

Speak not thou in thine heart, after that the Lord thy God hath cast them out from before thee, saying, For my righteousness the Lord hath brought me in to possess this land: but for the wickedness of these nations the Lord doth drive them out from before thee.

“Do not say in your heart when the Lord your God has driven them out before [b]you, ‘Because of my righteousness the Lord has brought me in to possess this land,’ but it is because of the wickedness of these nations that the Lord is dispossessing them before you.

The Lord your God will drive them out to make room for you. When he does, don’t say to yourself, “The Lord has done it because I am godly. That’s why he brought me here to take over this land.” That isn’t true. The Lord is going to drive out those nations to make room for you because they are very evil.

لَا تَقُولُوا لأَنْفُسِكُمْ بَعْدَ أَنْ يَنْفِيَهُمُ الرَّبُّ مِنْ أَمَامِكُمْ: لَقَدْ أَدْخَلَنَا الرَّبُّ لاِمْتِلاكِ هَذِهِ الأَرْضِ بِفَضْلِ صَلاحِنَا. إِنَّمَا مِنْ أَجْلِ كَثْرَةِ إِثْمِهِمْ يَطْرُدُهُمُ الرَّبُّ إِلَهُكُمْ مِنْ أَمَامِكُمْ.
