young men without blemish and handsome in appearance, skillful in all wisdom, endowed with intelligence and discernment, and quick to understand, competent to stand [in the presence of the king] and able to serve in the king’s palace. He also ordered Ashpenaz to teach them the literature and language of the [e]Chaldeans.

Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king's palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.

He was looking for young men who were healthy and handsome. They had to be able to learn anything. They had to be well educated. They had to have the ability to understand new things quickly and easily. The king wanted men who could serve in his palace. Ashpenaz was supposed to teach them the Babylonian language and writings.

“Select only strong, healthy, and good-looking young men,” he said. “Make sure they are well versed in every branch of learning, are gifted with knowledge and good judgment, and are suited to serve in the royal palace. Train these young men in the language and literature of Babylon.[c]”

Sie sollen gut aussehen und gesund sein. Außerdem müssen sie Weisheit und Bildung mitbringen und eine rasche Auffassungsgabe besitzen; dann sind sie zum Dienst an meinem Hof geeignet. Sie sollen unsere Sprache lernen und in den babylonischen Schriften unterrichtet werden!

quelques jeunes gens sans défaut physique et de belle apparence. Ils devaient être doués d’intelligence, de sagesse dans tous les domaines, posséder de grandes connaissances, être capables d’apprendre la science et de bonne constitution pour entrer au service du palais royal et apprendre la langue et la littérature des Chaldéens.

신체적인 결함이 없고 잘생겼으며 지능 지수가 높고 다방면의 지식을 가졌고 이해력이 빠르고 왕궁에서 섬길 자격이 있는 소년들을 데려오게 하여 그들에게 바빌로니아 말과 학문을 가르치게 하였다.
