1 Kings 11:2

from the very nations of whom the Lord said to the Israelites, “You shall not associate with them, nor shall they associate with you, for the result will be that they will turn away your hearts to follow their gods.” Yet Solomon clung to these in love.

Of the nations concerning which the Lord said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall not go in to them, neither shall they come in unto you: for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods: Solomon clave unto these in love.

The Lord had warned Israel about women from other nations. He had said, “You must not marry them. If you do, you can be sure they will turn your hearts toward their gods.” But Solomon continued to love them anyway. He wouldn’t give them up.

وَكُلُّهُنَّ مِنْ بَنَاتِ الأُمَمِ الَّتِي نَهَى الرَّبُّ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ عَنِ الزَّوَاجِ مِنْهُمْ قَائِلاً لَهُمْ: «لا تَتَزَوَّجُوا مِنْهُمْ وَلا هُمْ مِنْكُمْ، لأَنَّهُمْ يُغْوُونَ قُلُوبَكُمْ وَرَاءَ آلِهَتِهِمْ». وَلَكِنَّ سُلَيْمَانَ الْتَصَقَ بِهِنَّ لِفَرْطِ مَحَبَّتِهِ لَهُنَّ.
