Also Hosah, one of the sons of Merari, had sons: Shimri the first and chief (although he was not the firstborn, his father made him first),

Hosah belonged to the family line of Merari. Hosah’s first son wasShimri. But Shimri wasn’t the oldest son. His father had made him the first.
