Shemaiah, the son of Nethanel the scribe, from the Levites, recorded them in the presence of the king, the officers, Zadok the priest, [b]Ahimelech the son of Abiathar [the priest who escaped Saul’s massacre at Nob], and the heads of the fathers’ households of the priests and of the Levites; one father’s household taken for Eleazar and one taken for Ithamar.

And Shemaiah the son of Nethaneel the scribe, one of the Levites, wrote them before the king, and the princes, and Zadok the priest, and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar, and before the chief of the fathers of the priests and Levites: one principal household being taken for Eleazar, and one taken for Ithamar.

The secretary Shemaiah son of Nethanel, a Levite, wrote down their names in the presence of the king, the officials, Zadok the priest, Ahimelech son of Abiathar, and the leaders of the priestly and Levitical families. They took turns: One family was selected from Eleazar and then one from Ithamar. 7-18 The first lot fell to Jehoiarib, the second to Jedaiah,the third to Harim, the fourth to Seorim,the fifth to Malkijah, the sixth to Mijamin,the seventh to Hakkoz, the eighth to Abijah,the ninth to Jeshua, the tenth to Shecaniah,the eleventh to Eliashib, the twelfth to Jakim,the thirteenth to Huppah, the fourteenth to Jeshebeab,the fifteenth to Bilgah, the sixteenth to Immer,the seventeenth to Hezir, the eighteenth to Happizzez,the nineteenth to Pethahiah, the twentieth to Jehezkel,the twenty-first to Jakin, the twenty-second to Gamul,the twenty-third to Delaiah, and the twenty-fourth to Maaziah.

One family was chosen by lot from Eleazar’s group. Then one was chosen from Ithamar’s group.

وَدَوَّنَ شَمَعْيَا بْنُ نَثَنْئِيلَ الكَاتِبُ مِنْ سِبْطِ لاوِي أَسْمَاءَهُمْ فِي حُضُورِ الْمَلِكِ وَالْقَادَةِ وَصَادُوقَ الكَاهِنِ وَأَخِيمَالِكَ بْنِ أَبِيَاثَارَ وَسِوَاهُمْ مِنْ رُؤَسَاءِ عَائِلاتِ الكَهَنَةِ وَاللّاوِيِّينَ، فَاخْتِيرَتْ عَائِلَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ مِنْ بَنِي أَلِعَازَارَ، وَعَائِلَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ، مِنْ بَنِي إِيِثَامَارَ.
