Genesis 39

Now Joseph had been taken down to Egypt. Potiphar, an Egyptian who was one of Pharaoh’s officials, the captain of the guard, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him there.

บัดนี้โยเซฟถูกนำมาถึงอียิปต์ คนอิชมาเอลได้ขายเขาให้กับโปทิฟาร์ผู้บัญชาการทหารรักษาพระองค์ซึ่งเป็นขุนนางคนหนึ่งของฟาโรห์

The Lord was with Joseph so that he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master.

องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าสถิตกับโยเซฟและทรงอวยพรให้เขาเจริญรุ่งเรืองขึ้นในบ้านของเจ้านายชาวอียิปต์

When his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord gave him success in everything he did,

เมื่อนายเห็นว่าองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าสถิตกับเขา และองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าประทานความสำเร็จในทุกสิ่งที่เขาทำ

Joseph found favor in his eyes and became his attendant. Potiphar put him in charge of his household, and he entrusted to his care everything he owned.

โยเซฟจึงเป็นที่โปรดปรานและกลายเป็นคนสนิทของนาย โปทิฟาร์จึงตั้งให้โยเซฟดูแลครัวเรือนของเขา และมอบทุกสิ่งที่เขามีอยู่ไว้ในมือของโยเซฟ

From the time he put him in charge of his household and of all that he owned, the Lord blessed the household of the Egyptian because of Joseph. The blessing of the Lord was on everything Potiphar had, both in the house and in the field.

ตั้งแต่นายมอบหมายให้โยเซฟดูแลทุกสิ่งในครัวเรือนและทุกสิ่งที่เขามี องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงอวยพรครอบครัวของคนอียิปต์นั้นเพราะเห็นแก่โยเซฟ องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงอวยพรทุกสิ่งของโปทิฟาร์ทั้งในบ้านและในทุ่งนา

So Potiphar left everything he had in Joseph’s care; with Joseph in charge, he did not concern himself with anything except the food he ate.

Now Joseph was well-built and handsome,

ดังนั้นโปทิฟาร์จึงไว้ใจให้โยเซฟดูแลทุกสิ่งที่เขามี เมื่อมีโยเซฟเป็นผู้ดูแล เขาไม่ต้องรับรู้เรื่องใดเลย เว้นแต่อาหารที่จะรับประทาน

โยเซฟเป็นชายรูปหล่อหุ่นดี

and after a while his master’s wife took notice of Joseph and said, “Come to bed with me!”

จากนั้นไม่นานภรรยาของเจ้านายจ้องมองโยเซฟตาเป็นมัน นางจึงชวนเขาว่า “มานอนกับฉันสิ!”

But he refused. “With me in charge,” he told her, “my master does not concern himself with anything in the house; everything he owns he has entrusted to my care.

แต่โยเซฟปฏิเสธและกล่าวกับนางว่า “ภายใต้การดูแลของข้า นายไม่ต้องรับรู้เรื่องใดในบ้านเลย ทุกสิ่งที่นายมีอยู่ นายก็มอบให้ข้าจัดการ

No one is greater in this house than I am. My master has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?”

ในบ้านนี้ไม่มีใครใหญ่เกินข้า เจ้านายของข้าไม่หวงสิ่งใดกับข้านอกจากท่าน เพราะท่านเป็นภรรยาของนาย ข้าจะทำสิ่งชั่วร้ายเช่นนี้และทำบาปต่อพระเจ้าได้อย่างไร?”

And though she spoke to Joseph day after day, he refused to go to bed with her or even be with her.

แม้นางชวนโยเซฟวันแล้ววันเล่า เขาก็ปฏิเสธที่จะหลับนอนกับนางหรือแม้แต่จะอยู่ใกล้นาง

One day he went into the house to attend to his duties, and none of the household servants was inside.

วันหนึ่งขณะที่โยเซฟเข้าไปในบ้านเพื่อทำงานตามหน้าที่ของเขา ขณะนั้นไม่มีคนรับใช้อื่นๆ อยู่ในบ้านเลย

She caught him by his cloak and said, “Come to bed with me!” But he left his cloak in her hand and ran out of the house.

ภรรยาของโปทิฟาร์เข้ามากระชากเสื้อของโยเซฟไว้แล้วบอกว่า “มานอนกับฉันเถิด!” แต่เขาทิ้งเสื้อไว้ในมือของนางแล้ววิ่งหนีออกไปนอกบ้าน

When she saw that he had left his cloak in her hand and had run out of the house,

เมื่อนางเห็นว่าเสื้อของโยเซฟอยู่ในมือ และตัวเขาวิ่งออกไปนอกบ้านแล้ว

she called her household servants. “Look,” she said to them, “this Hebrew has been brought to us to make sport of us! He came in here to sleep with me, but I screamed.

นางจึงเรียกคนรับใช้คนอื่นๆ ในบ้านมาและกล่าวว่า “ดูสิ สามีฉันนำเจ้าฮีบรูคนนี้มาหยามพวกเรา มันเข้ามาที่นี่และจะหลับนอนกับข้า แต่ข้ากรีดร้องขึ้น

When he heard me scream for help, he left his cloak beside me and ran out of the house.”

เมื่อมันได้ยินข้าร้องขอความช่วยเหลือ มันจึงทิ้งเสื้อไว้ข้างตัวข้าแล้ววิ่งหนีออกจากบ้านไป”

She kept his cloak beside her until his master came home.

นางเก็บเสื้อตัวนั้นไว้จนกระทั่งสามีกลับมาบ้าน

Then she told him this story: “That Hebrew slave you brought us came to me to make sport of me.

แล้วนางจึงเล่าเรื่องนี้ให้สามีฟังว่า “เจ้าฮีบรูคนนั้นที่ท่านนำมาให้พวกเราจะเข้ามาหยามข้า

But as soon as I screamed for help, he left his cloak beside me and ran out of the house.”

แต่ทันทีที่ข้ากรีดร้องขอความช่วยเหลือ มันจึงทิ้งเสื้อไว้ข้างตัวข้าแล้ววิ่งหนีออกจากบ้านไป”

When his master heard the story his wife told him, saying, “This is how your slave treated me,” he burned with anger.

เมื่อเจ้านายของโยเซฟได้ยินเรื่องนี้จากภรรยาของเขาซึ่งกล่าวว่า “นี่เป็นสิ่งที่ทาสของท่านทำกับข้า” เขาจึงโกรธจัด

Joseph’s master took him and put him in prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined.

But while Joseph was there in the prison,

และเจ้านายนำโยเซฟมาขังไว้ในคุกหลวง

แต่ขณะที่โยเซฟถูกขังอยู่ในคุกนั้น

the Lord was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden.

องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าสถิตกับโยเซฟ ทรงกรุณาเขา และทำให้โยเซฟเป็นที่โปรดปรานในสายตาของพัศดี

So the warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in the prison, and he was made responsible for all that was done there.

ดังนั้นพัศดีจึงตั้งให้โยเซฟเป็นผู้ดูแลนักโทษทุกคน และให้เขารับผิดชอบงานทุกอย่างในคุก

The warden paid no attention to anything under Joseph’s care, because the Lord was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did.

พัศดีผู้นั้นไม่ต้องใส่ใจต่อสิ่งใดๆ ที่อยู่ภายใต้การดูแลของโยเซฟ เพราะว่าองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าสถิตกับโยเซฟและประทานความสำเร็จในทุกสิ่งที่เขาทำ
