Verse 1

Then God said to Jacob, “Go up to Bethel and settle there, and build an altar there to God, who appeared to you when you were fleeing from your brother Esau.”

แล้วพระเจ้าตรัสกับยาโคบว่า “จงขึ้นไปยังเบธเอล แล้วตั้งถิ่นฐานที่นั่น และจงสร้างแท่นบูชาขึ้นที่นั่นถวายพระเจ้าผู้ทรงปรากฏแก่เจ้าเมื่อเจ้าหนีจากเอซาวพี่ชายของเจ้า”

Verse 2

So Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, “Get rid of the foreign gods you have with you, and purify yourselves and change your clothes.

ดังนั้นยาโคบจึงกล่าวกับครอบครัวของเขาและทุกคนที่อยู่กับเขาว่า “จงกำจัดเทวรูปทั้งหลายที่พวกเจ้ามีอยู่ แล้วชำระตัวให้บริสุทธิ์ และเปลี่ยนเสื้อผ้า

Verse 3

Then come, let us go up to Bethel, where I will build an altar to God, who answered me in the day of my distress and who has been with me wherever I have gone.”

แล้วให้เราขึ้นไปยังเบธเอลที่เราจะสร้างแท่นบูชาขึ้นถวายแด่พระเจ้าผู้ทรงตอบคำอธิษฐานของเราในคราวทุกข์ยาก และได้สถิตกับเราตลอดมาในทุกหนทุกแห่งที่เราไป”

Verse 4

So they gave Jacob all the foreign gods they had and the rings in their ears, and Jacob buried them under the oak at Shechem.

คนเหล่านั้นจึงเอาเทวรูปทั้งหมดของตนและตุ้มหูมามอบให้ยาโคบ และยาโคบก็ฝังมันไว้ใต้สถานบูชาต้นไม้ใหญ่ที่เชเคม

Verse 5

Then they set out, and the terror of God fell on the towns all around them so that no one pursued them.

จากนั้นพวกเขาก็ออกเดินทางต่อ และชาวเมืองที่อยู่รอบๆ พวกเขาก็เกิดหวาดกลัวพระเจ้า จึงไม่มีใครไล่ตามพวกเขาไป

Verse 6

Jacob and all the people with him came to Luz (that is, Bethel) in the land of Canaan.

ยาโคบกับคนทั้งหมดที่ร่วมทางได้มาถึงเมืองลูส (คือเบธเอล) ในแผ่นดินคานาอัน

Verse 7

There he built an altar, and he called the place El Bethel,^[a] because it was there that God revealed himself to him when he was fleeing from his brother.

เขาสร้างแท่นบูชาขึ้นและเรียกที่นั่นว่าเอลเบธเอล^[a] เพราะพระเจ้าทรงเปิดเผยพระองค์แก่เขาที่นั่นเมื่อครั้งที่เขาหนีจากพี่ชายของเขา

Verse 8

Now Deborah, Rebekah’s nurse, died and was buried under the oak outside Bethel. So it was named Allon Bakuth.^[b]

ครั้งนั้นเดโบราห์พี่เลี้ยงของเรเบคาห์สิ้นชีวิตและถูกฝังไว้ใต้ต้นไม้ใหญ่ที่อยู่ทางใต้ของเบธเอล ที่นั่นจึงได้ชื่อว่าอัลโลนบาคูท^[b]

Verse 9

After Jacob returned from Paddan Aram,^[c] God appeared to him again and blessed him.

หลังจากยาโคบกลับมาจากจากปัดดานอารัม พระเจ้าทรงปรากฏแก่ยาโคบอีกครั้งหนึ่งและทรงอวยพรเขา

Verse 10

God said to him, “Your name is Jacob,^[d] but you will no longer be called Jacob; your name will be Israel.^[e]” So he named him Israel.

พระเจ้าตรัสกับเขาว่า “เจ้าชื่อยาโคบ^[c] แต่คนจะไม่เรียกเจ้าว่ายาโคบอีกต่อไป เจ้าจะได้ชื่อว่าอิสราเอล^[d]” ดังนั้นพระองค์จึงตั้งชื่อเขาว่าอิสราเอล

Verse 11

And God said to him, “I am God Almighty^[f]; be fruitful and increase in number. A nation and a community of nations will come from you, and kings will be among your descendants.

แล้วพระเจ้าตรัสกับเขาว่า “เราเป็นพระเจ้าผู้ทรงฤทธิ์ เจ้าจงมีลูกมีหลานมากมายและทวีจำนวนขึ้น จะมีชนชาติหนึ่งและหมู่ประชาชาติเกิดมาจากเจ้า และกษัตริย์หลายองค์จะมาจากกายของเจ้า

Verse 12

The land I gave to Abraham and Isaac I also give to you, and I will give this land to your descendants after you.”

ดินแดนนี้ซึ่งเรายกให้แก่อับราฮัมและอิสอัค เราจะยกให้แก่เจ้าด้วย และเราจะให้ดินแดนนี้แก่ลูกหลานของเจ้าที่จะมาภายหลัง”

Verse 13

Then God went up from him at the place where he had talked with him.

แล้วพระเจ้าเสด็จขึ้นไปจากสถานที่ที่พระองค์ตรัสกับเขา

Verse 14

Jacob set up a stone pillar at the place where God had talked with him, and he poured out a drink offering on it; he also poured oil on it.

ยาโคบจึงตั้งเสาหินตรงสถานที่ซึ่งพระเจ้าตรัสกับเขา แล้วเทเครื่องดื่มบูชาลงบนเสาและเทน้ำมันลงบนนั้นด้วย

Verse 15

Jacob called the place where God had talked with him Bethel.^[g]

The Deaths of Rachel and Isaac

ยาโคบเรียกสถานที่ซึ่งพระเจ้าตรัสกับเขาว่าเบธเอล^[e]

ราเชลและอิสอัคสิ้นชีวิต

Verse 16

Then they moved on from Bethel. While they were still some distance from Ephrath, Rachel began to give birth and had great difficulty.

จากนั้นพวกเขาเดินทางออกจากเบธเอล ขณะที่พวกเขาใกล้จะถึงเอฟราธาห์ ราเชลเริ่มเจ็บท้องคลอดและทรมานมาก

Verse 17

And as she was having great difficulty in childbirth, the midwife said to her, “Don’t despair, for you have another son.”

ขณะที่กำลังทุรนทุรายอยู่นั้น นางผดุงครรภ์ก็ปลอบว่า “อย่ากลัวเลย เพราะเธอกำลังจะได้ลูกชายอีกคน”

Verse 18

As she breathed her last—for she was dying—she named her son Ben-Oni.^[h] But his father named him Benjamin.^[i]

ขณะที่ราเชลกำลังจะสิ้นลมหายใจ นางตั้งชื่อลูกว่าเบนโอนี^[f] แต่ยาโคบเรียกเขาว่าเบนยามิน^[g]

Verse 19

So Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem).

ราเชลก็สิ้นชีวิตและถูกฝังไว้บนเส้นทางที่จะไปเอฟราธาห์ (คือเบธเลเฮม)

Verse 20

Over her tomb Jacob set up a pillar, and to this day that pillar marks Rachel’s tomb.

ยาโคบปักเสาหินเหนือหลุมฝังศพของนางเป็นอนุสรณ์ซึ่งยังคงอยู่จนทุกวันนี้

Verse 21

Israel moved on again and pitched his tent beyond Migdal Eder.

แล้วอิสราเอลก็เดินทางต่อไปอีกครั้ง และได้ตั้งเต็นท์ถัดจากมิกดัลเอเดอร์

Verse 22

While Israel was living in that region, Reuben went in and slept with his father’s concubine Bilhah, and Israel heard of it.

Jacob had twelve sons:

ขณะอิสราเอลพักอยู่ในละแวกนั้น รูเบนก็ไปหลับนอนกับบิลฮาห์ภรรยาน้อยของบิดา และอิสราเอลก็ได้ทราบเรื่องนี้

ยาโคบมีบุตรชายสิบสองคน

Verse 23

The sons of Leah:

Reuben the firstborn of Jacob,

Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar and Zebulun.

บุตรชายที่เกิดจากเลอาห์ ได้แก่

รูเบนบุตรชายหัวปีของยาโคบ สิเมโอน เลวี ยูดาห์ อิสสาคาร์ และเศบูลุน

Verse 24

The sons of Rachel:

Joseph and Benjamin.

บุตรชายที่เกิดจากราเชล ได้แก่

โยเซฟและเบนยามิน

Verse 25

The sons of Rachel’s servant Bilhah:

Dan and Naphtali.

บุตรชายที่เกิดจากบิลฮาห์สาวใช้ของราเชลได้แก่

ดานและนัฟทาลี

Verse 26

The sons of Leah’s servant Zilpah:

Gad and Asher.

These were the sons of Jacob, who were born to him in Paddan Aram.

บุตรชายที่เกิดจากศิลปาห์ สาวใช้ของเลอาห์ ได้แก่

กาดและอาเชอร์

ทั้งหมดนี้คือบุตรชายของยาโคบที่เกิดในปัดดานอารัม

Verse 27

Jacob came home to his father Isaac in Mamre, near Kiriath Arba (that is, Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac had stayed.

ยาโคบกลับบ้านมาหาอิสอัคบิดาของเขาที่มัมเรใกล้คีริยาทอารบา (คือเมืองเฮโบรน) ที่ซึ่งอับราฮัมกับอิสอัคได้อาศัยอยู่

Verse 28

Isaac lived a hundred and eighty years.

อิสอัคมีอายุจนถึง 180 ปี

Verse 29

Then he breathed his last and died and was gathered to his people, old and full of years. And his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.

แล้วอิสอัคก็สิ้นลมหายใจและถูกรวมไว้กับบรรพบุรุษของเขา เขาสิ้นชีวิตเมื่อชรามากแล้ว เอซาวกับยาโคบผู้เป็นบุตรก็จัดการฝังศพบิดา
