Verse 1
The word of the Lord came to me:

“What do you people mean by quoting this proverb about the land of Israel:
“‘The parents eat sour grapes,
and the children’s teeth are set on edge’?
“พวกเจ้าหมายความว่าอะไรที่กล่าวภาษิตเกี่ยวกับดินแดนอิสราเอลว่า
“ ‘พ่อกินองุ่นเปรี้ยว
ลูกก็เข็ดฟัน’?
Verse 3
“As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, you will no longer quote this proverb in Israel.
“พระยาห์เวห์องค์เจ้าชีวิตตรัสดังนี้ว่า เรามีชีวิตอยู่แน่ฉันใด เจ้าจะไม่กล่าวภาษิตนี้ในอิสราเอลอีกต่อไปฉันนั้น
Verse 4
For everyone belongs to me, the parent as well as the child—both alike belong to me. The one who sins is the one who will die.
เพราะจิตวิญญาณทุกดวงเป็นของเรา ทั้งของพ่อและของลูกล้วนเป็นของเรา จิตวิญญาณที่ทำบาปจะตาย

“Suppose there is a righteous man
who does what is just and right.

He does not oppress anyone,
but returns what he took in pledge for a loan.

He does not lend to them at interest

He follows my decrees

Verse 10
“Suppose he has a violent son, who sheds blood or does any of these other things[a]
“สมมุติว่าชายคนนั้นมีบุตรชายเหี้ยมโหดซึ่งทำให้โลหิตตกหรือทำสิ่งต่อไปนี้[b]

(though the father has done none of them):
“He eats at the mountain shrines.

Verse 13
He lends at interest and takes a profit.
Will such a man live? He will not! Because he has done all these detestable things, he is to be put to death; his blood will be on his own head.
เขาให้ยืมโดยคิดดอกเบี้ยสูงเกินเหตุและหากำไรโดยการขูดเลือดขูดเนื้อ

“But suppose this son has a son who sees all the sins his father commits, and though he sees them, he does not do such things:

He withholds his hand from mistreating the poor
and takes no interest or profit from them.

Verse 18
But his father will die for his own sin, because he practiced extortion, robbed his brother and did what was wrong among his people.
ส่วนผู้เป็นบิดานั้นจะตายเพราะบาปของตน เนื่องจากเขาขู่กรรโชกทรัพย์ ปล้นชิงพี่น้อง และทำผิดในหมู่ประชากรของเขา

“Yet you ask, ‘Why does the son not share the guilt of his father?’ Since the son has done what is just and right and has been careful to keep all my decrees, he will surely live.
“กระนั้นเจ้าก็ยังถามว่า ‘ทำไมลูกไม่ต้องร่วมรับโทษความผิดของพ่อ?’ เมื่อลูกได้ทำสิ่งที่ถูกต้องและเที่ยงธรรม และได้ใส่ใจทำตามกฎเกณฑ์ของเราอย่างถี่ถ้วน เขาจะดำรงชีวิตอยู่อย่างแน่นอน
Verse 20
The one who sins is the one who will die. The child will not share the guilt of the parent, nor will the parent share the guilt of the child. The righteousness of the righteous will be credited to them, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against them.
ผู้ใดที่ทำบาป ผู้นั้นจะต้องตาย ลูกไม่ต้องร่วมรับโทษกับความผิดของพ่อ ทั้งพ่อก็ไม่ต้องร่วมรับโทษกับความผิดของลูก คนชอบธรรมจะได้รับผลแห่งความชอบธรรมของเขา และคนชั่วก็จะได้รับการกล่าวโทษจากความชั่วร้ายของเขา
Verse 21
“But if a wicked person turns away from all the sins they have committed and keeps all my decrees and does what is just and right, that person will surely live; they will not die.
“แต่หากคนชั่วหันหนีจากบาปทั้งปวงที่ตนทำ แล้วรักษากฎหมายทั้งสิ้นของเราและทำสิ่งที่ถูกต้องและยุติธรรม เขาจะมีชีวิตอยู่อย่างแน่นอน เขาจะไม่ตาย
Verse 22
None of the offenses they have committed will be remembered against them. Because of the righteous things they have done, they will live.
ความผิดพลาดทั้งสิ้นที่เขาได้ทำลงไปจะไม่เป็นที่จดจำและไม่นำมาเป็นข้อกล่าวโทษเขา เขาจะมีชีวิตอยู่เพราะสิ่งชอบธรรมที่เขาได้ทำนั้น
Verse 23
Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign Lord. Rather, am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live?
พระยาห์เวห์องค์เจ้าชีวิตประกาศว่า เราพึงพอใจในความตายของคนชั่วร้ายหรือ? เราไม่ยินดีมากกว่าหรือเมื่อเขาหันจากทางชั่วของตนและมีชีวิตอยู่?
Verse 24
“But if a righteous person turns from their righteousness and commits sin and does the same detestable things the wicked person does, will they live? None of the righteous things that person has done will be remembered. Because of the unfaithfulness they are guilty of and because of the sins they have committed, they will die.
“แต่หากคนชอบธรรมหันหนีจากความชอบธรรมของตนไปทำบาป และทำสิ่งที่น่าชิงชังเช่นเดียวกับคนชั่ว เขาจะมีชีวิตอยู่ได้หรือ? ความชอบธรรมทั้งปวงที่เขาได้ทำจะไม่เป็นที่จดจำ เขาจะตายโทษฐานที่ไม่ซื่อสัตย์ และเพราะบาปทั้งหลายที่เขาได้ทำ
Verse 25
“Yet you say, ‘The way of the Lord is not just.’ Hear, you Israelites: Is my way unjust? Is it not your ways that are unjust?
“ถึงกระนั้นเจ้าก็ยังกล่าวว่า ‘วิถีทางขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าไม่ยุติธรรม’ พงศ์พันธุ์อิสราเอลเอ๋ย จงฟังเถิด วิถีทางของเราไม่ยุติธรรมหรือ? วิถีทางของเจ้าต่างหากไม่ใช่หรือที่ไม่ยุติธรรม?
Verse 26
If a righteous person turns from their righteousness and commits sin, they will die for it; because of the sin they have committed they will die.
หากคนชอบธรรมหันหนีจากความชอบธรรมของตนไปทำบาป เขาจะตาย เขาจะตายเพราะบาปที่เขาได้ทำลงไป
Verse 27
But if a wicked person turns away from the wickedness they have committed and does what is just and right, they will save their life.
แต่หากคนชั่วหันหนีจากความชั่วที่ทำไปแล้ว และกลับมาทำสิ่งที่ถูกต้องและยุติธรรม เขาจะช่วยชีวิตตนเองไว้
Verse 28
Because they consider all the offenses they have committed and turn away from them, that person will surely live; they will not die.
เพราะเขาใคร่ครวญ และหันหนีจากการล่วงละเมิดทั้งสิ้นที่ทำไปแล้ว เขาจะมีชีวิตอยู่อย่างแน่นอน เขาจะไม่ตาย
Verse 29
Yet the Israelites say, ‘The way of the Lord is not just.’ Are my ways unjust, people of Israel? Is it not your ways that are unjust?
ถึงกระนั้นพงศ์พันธุ์อิสราเอลก็ยังกล่าวว่า ‘วิถีทางขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าไม่ยุติธรรม’ ประชากรอิสราเอลเอ๋ย วิถีทางของเราไม่ยุติธรรมหรือ? วิถีทางของเจ้าต่างหากไม่ใช่หรือที่ไม่ยุติธรรม?
Verse 30
“Therefore, you Israelites, I will judge each of you according to your own ways, declares the Sovereign Lord. Repent! Turn away from all your offenses; then sin will not be your downfall.
“พระยาห์เวห์องค์เจ้าชีวิตตรัสว่า ฉะนั้นพงศ์พันธุ์อิสราเอลเอ๋ย เราจะตัดสินเจ้าแต่ละคนตามการกระทำของเจ้า จงกลับใจใหม่! หันหนีจากการล่วงละเมิดทั้งสิ้นของเจ้า แล้วเจ้าจะไม่ต้องพินาศล่มจมเพราะบาป
Verse 31
Rid yourselves of all the offenses you have committed, and get a new heart and a new spirit. Why will you die, people of Israel?
จงละทิ้งการล่วงละเมิดทั้งสิ้นที่ทำลงไป และรับเอาจิตใจและวิญญาณใหม่เถิด พงศ์พันธุ์อิสราเอลเอ๋ย เจ้าจะตายทำไมเล่า?
Verse 32
For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign Lord. Repent and live!
เพราะเราไม่ได้พึงพอใจในความตายของผู้หนึ่งผู้ใด จงกลับใจใหม่และมีชีวิตอยู่เถิด! พระยาห์เวห์องค์เจ้าชีวิตประกาศดังนั้น
