Genesis 27

When Isaac was old and his eyes were so weak that he could no longer see, he called for Esau his older son and said to him, “My son.”

“Here I am,” he answered.

Isaac había llegado a viejo y se había quedado ciego. Un día llamó a Esaú, su hijo mayor.

—¡Hijo mío! —le dijo.

—Aquí estoy —le contestó Esaú.

Isaac said, “I am now an old man and don’t know the day of my death.

—Como te darás cuenta, ya estoy muy viejo y en cualquier momento puedo morirme.

Now then, get your equipment—your quiver and bow—and go out to the open country to hunt some wild game for me.

Toma, pues, tus armas, tu arco y tus flechas, y ve al campo a cazarme algún animal.

Prepare me the kind of tasty food I like and bring it to me to eat, so that I may give you my blessing before I die.”

Prepárame luego un buen guiso, como a mí me gusta, y tráemelo para que me lo coma. Entonces te bendeciré antes de que muera.

Now Rebekah was listening as Isaac spoke to his son Esau. When Esau left for the open country to hunt game and bring it back,

Como Rebeca había estado escuchando mientras Isaac le hablaba a su hijo Esaú, en cuanto este se fue al campo a cazar un animal para su padre,

Rebekah said to her son Jacob, “Look, I overheard your father say to your brother Esau,

ella le dijo a su hijo Jacob:

—Según acabo de escuchar, tu padre le ha pedido a tu hermano Esaú

‘Bring me some game and prepare me some tasty food to eat, so that I may give you my blessing in the presence of the Lord before I die.’

que cace un animal y se lo traiga para hacerle un guiso como a él le gusta. También le ha prometido que antes de morirse lo va a bendecir, poniendo al Señor como testigo.

Now, my son, listen carefully and do what I tell you:

Ahora bien, hijo mío, escúchame bien, y haz lo que te mando.

Go out to the flock and bring me two choice young goats, so I can prepare some tasty food for your father, just the way he likes it.

Ve al rebaño y tráeme de allí dos de los mejores cabritos, para que yo le prepare a tu padre un guiso como a él le gusta.

Then take it to your father to eat, so that he may give you his blessing before he dies.”

Tú se lo llevarás para que se lo coma, y así él te dará su bendición antes de morirse.

Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, “But my brother Esau is a hairy man while I have smooth skin.

Pero Jacob le dijo a su madre:

—Hay un problema: mi hermano Esaú es muy velludo, y yo soy lampiño.

What if my father touches me? I would appear to be tricking him and would bring down a curse on myself rather than a blessing.”

Si mi padre me toca, se dará cuenta de que quiero engañarlo, y esto hará que me maldiga en vez de bendecirme.

His mother said to him, “My son, let the curse fall on me. Just do what I say; go and get them for me.”

—Hijo mío, ¡que esa maldición caiga sobre mí! —le contestó su madre—. Tan solo haz lo que te pido, y ve a buscarme esos cabritos.

So he went and got them and brought them to his mother, and she prepared some tasty food, just the way his father liked it.

Jacob fue a buscar los cabritos, se los llevó a su madre, y ella preparó el guiso tal como le gustaba a su padre.

Then Rebekah took the best clothes of Esau her older son, which she had in the house, and put them on her younger son Jacob.

Luego sacó la mejor ropa de su hijo mayor Esaú, la cual tenía en casa, y con ella vistió a su hijo menor Jacob.

She also covered his hands and the smooth part of his neck with the goatskins.

Con la piel de los cabritos le cubrió los brazos y la parte lampiña del cuello,

Then she handed to her son Jacob the tasty food and the bread she had made.

y le entregó a Jacob el guiso y el pan que había preparado.

He went to his father and said, “My father.”

“Yes, my son,” he answered. “Who is it?”

Jacob se presentó ante su padre y le dijo:

—¡Padre!

—Dime, hijo mío, ¿quién eres tú? —preguntó Isaac.

Jacob said to his father, “I am Esau your firstborn. I have done as you told me. Please sit up and eat some of my game, so that you may give me your blessing.”

—Soy Esaú, tu primogénito —le contestó Jacob—. Ya hice todo lo que me pediste. Ven, por favor, y siéntate a comer de lo que he cazado; así podrás darme tu bendición.

Isaac asked his son, “How did you find it so quickly, my son?”

“The Lord your God gave me success,” he replied.

Pero Isaac le preguntó a su hijo:

—¿Cómo fue que lo encontraste tan pronto, hijo mío?

—El Señor tu Dios me ayudó —respondió Jacob.

Then Isaac said to Jacob, “Come near so I can touch you, my son, to know whether you really are my son Esau or not.”

Isaac le dijo:

—Acércate, hijo mío, para que pueda tocarte y saber si de veras eres o no mi hijo Esaú.

Jacob went close to his father Isaac, who touched him and said, “The voice is the voice of Jacob, but the hands are the hands of Esau.”

Jacob se acercó a su padre, quien al tocarlo dijo:

—La voz es la de Jacob, pero las manos son las de Esaú.

He did not recognize him, for his hands were hairy like those of his brother Esau; so he proceeded to bless him.

Así que no lo reconoció, porque sus manos eran velludas como las de Esaú. Ya se disponía a bendecirlo

“Are you really my son Esau?” he asked.

“I am,” he replied.

cuando volvió a preguntarle:

—¿En serio eres mi hijo Esaú?

—Claro que sí —respondió Jacob.

Then he said, “My son, bring me some of your game to eat, so that I may give you my blessing.”

Jacob brought it to him and he ate; and he brought some wine and he drank.

Entonces su padre le dijo:

—Tráeme lo que has cazado, para que lo coma, y te daré mi bendición.

Jacob le sirvió, y su padre comió. También le llevó vino, y su padre lo bebió.

Then his father Isaac said to him, “Come here, my son, and kiss me.”

Luego le dijo su padre:

—Acércate ahora, hijo mío, y dame un beso.

So he went to him and kissed him. When Isaac caught the smell of his clothes, he blessed him and said,

After Isaac finished blessing him, and Jacob had scarcely left his father’s presence, his brother Esau came in from hunting.

No bien había terminado Isaac de bendecir a Jacob, y este de salir de la presencia de su padre, cuando Esaú volvió de cazar.

He too prepared some tasty food and brought it to his father. Then he said to him, “My father, please sit up and eat some of my game, so that you may give me your blessing.”

También él preparó un guiso, se lo llevó a su padre y le dijo:

—Levántate, padre mío, y come de lo que ha cazado tu hijo. Luego podrás darme tu bendición.

His father Isaac asked him, “Who are you?”

“I am your son,” he answered, “your firstborn, Esau.”

Pero Isaac lo interrumpió:

—¿Quién eres tú?

—Soy Esaú, tu hijo primogénito —respondió.

Isaac trembled violently and said, “Who was it, then, that hunted game and brought it to me? I ate it just before you came and I blessed him—and indeed he will be blessed!”

Isaac comenzó a temblar y, muy sobresaltado, dijo:

—¿Quién fue el que ya me trajo lo que había cazado? Poco antes de que llegaras, yo me lo comí todo. Le di mi bendición, y bendecido quedará.

When Esau heard his father’s words, he burst out with a loud and bitter cry and said to his father, “Bless me—me too, my father!”

Al escuchar Esaú las palabras de su padre, lanzó un grito aterrador y, lleno de amargura, le dijo:

—¡Padre mío, te ruego que también a mí me bendigas!

But he said, “Your brother came deceitfully and took your blessing.”

Pero Isaac le respondió:

—Tu hermano vino y me engañó, y se llevó la bendición que a ti te correspondía.

Esau said, “Isn’t he rightly named Jacob^[a]? This is the second time he has taken advantage of me: He took my birthright, and now he’s taken my blessing!” Then he asked, “Haven’t you reserved any blessing for me?”

—¡Con toda razón le pusieron Jacob!^[a] —replicó Esaú—. Ya van dos veces que me engaña: primero me quita mis derechos de primogénito, y ahora se lleva mi bendición. ¿No te queda ninguna bendición para mí?

Isaac answered Esau, “I have made him lord over you and have made all his relatives his servants, and I have sustained him with grain and new wine. So what can I possibly do for you, my son?”

Isaac le respondió:

—Ya lo he puesto por señor tuyo: todos sus hermanos serán siervos suyos; lo he sustentado con trigo y con vino. ¿Qué puedo hacer ahora por ti, hijo mío?

Esau said to his father, “Do you have only one blessing, my father? Bless me too, my father!” Then Esau wept aloud.

Pero Esaú insistió:

—¿Acaso tienes una sola bendición, padre mío? ¡Bendíceme también a mí!

Y se echó a llorar.

His father Isaac answered him,

Jacob huye de Esaú

Esau held a grudge against Jacob because of the blessing his father had given him. He said to himself, “The days of mourning for my father are near; then I will kill my brother Jacob.”

A partir de ese momento, Esaú guardó un profundo rencor hacia su hermano por causa de la bendición que le había dado su padre, y pensaba: «Ya falta poco para que hagamos duelo por mi padre; después de eso, mataré a mi hermano Jacob».

When Rebekah was told what her older son Esau had said, she sent for her younger son Jacob and said to him, “Your brother Esau is planning to avenge himself by killing you.

Cuando Rebeca se enteró de lo que estaba pensando Esaú, mandó llamar a Jacob, y le dijo:

—Mira, tu hermano Esaú está planeando matarte para vengarse de ti.

Now then, my son, do what I say: Flee at once to my brother Laban in Harran.

Por eso, hijo mío, obedéceme: Prepárate y huye en seguida a Jarán, a la casa de mi hermano Labán,

Stay with him for a while until your brother’s fury subsides.

y quédate con él por un tiempo, hasta que se calme el enojo de tu hermano.

When your brother is no longer angry with you and forgets what you did to him, I’ll send word for you to come back from there. Why should I lose both of you in one day?”

Cuando ya se haya tranquilizado, y olvide lo que le has hecho, yo enviaré a buscarte. ¿Por qué voy a perder a mis dos hijos en un solo día?

Then Rebekah said to Isaac, “I’m disgusted with living because of these Hittite women. If Jacob takes a wife from among the women of this land, from Hittite women like these, my life will not be worth living.”

Luego Rebeca le dijo a Isaac:

—Estas mujeres hititas me tienen harta. Me han quitado las ganas de vivir. Si Jacob se llega a casar con una de las hititas que viven en este país, ¡más me valdría morir!
