1 Kings 15

In the eighteenth year of the reign of Jeroboam son of Nebat, Abijah^[a] became king of Judah,

En el año dieciocho del reinado de Jeroboán hijo de Nabat, Abías ascendió al trono de Judá,

and he reigned in Jerusalem three years. His mother’s name was Maakah daughter of Abishalom.^[b]

y reinó en Jerusalén tres años. Su madre era Macá hija de Abisalón.

He committed all the sins his father had done before him; his heart was not fully devoted to the Lord his God, as the heart of David his forefather had been.

Abías cometió todos los pecados que, antes de él, había cometido su padre, pues no siempre fue fiel al Señor su Dios como lo había sido su padre^[a] David.

Nevertheless, for David’s sake the Lord his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem by raising up a son to succeed him and by making Jerusalem strong.

No obstante, por consideración a David, el Señor su Dios mantuvo la lámpara de David encendida en Jerusalén, dándole un hijo que lo sucediera, para fortalecer así a Jerusalén.

For David had done what was right in the eyes of the Lord and had not failed to keep any of the Lord’s commands all the days of his life—except in the case of Uriah the Hittite.

Porque David había hecho lo que agrada al Señor, y en toda su vida no había dejado de cumplir ninguno de los mandamientos del Señor, excepto en el caso de Urías el hitita.

There was war between Abijah^[c] and Jeroboam throughout Abijah’s lifetime.

Durante toda la vida de Abías hubo guerra entre la casa de Roboán y la de Jeroboán.

As for the other events of Abijah’s reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? There was war between Abijah and Jeroboam.

Los demás acontecimientos del reinado de Abías, y todo lo que hizo, están escritos en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Judá. También hubo guerra entre Abías y Jeroboán.

And Abijah rested with his ancestors and was buried in the City of David. And Asa his son succeeded him as king.

Y Abías murió y fue sepultado en la Ciudad de David. Y su hijo Asá lo sucedió en el trono.

In the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel, Asa became king of Judah,

En el año veinte de Jeroboán, rey de Israel, Asá ocupó el trono de Judá,

and he reigned in Jerusalem forty-one years. His grandmother’s name was Maakah daughter of Abishalom.

y reinó en Jerusalén cuarenta y un años. Su abuela^[b] era Macá hija de Abisalón.

Asa did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, as his father David had done.

Asá hizo lo que agrada al Señor, como lo había hecho su antepasado David.

He expelled the male shrine prostitutes from the land and got rid of all the idols his ancestors had made.

Expulsó del país a los que practicaban la prostitución sagrada y acabó con todos los ídolos que sus antepasados habían fabricado.

He even deposed his grandmother Maakah from her position as queen mother, because she had made a repulsive image for the worship of Asherah. Asa cut it down and burned it in the Kidron Valley.

Hasta destituyó a su abuela Macá de su puesto como reina madre, porque ella se había hecho una escandalosa imagen de la diosa Aserá. Asá derribó la imagen y la quemó en el arroyo de Cedrón.

Although he did not remove the high places, Asa’s heart was fully committed to the Lord all his life.

Aunque no quitó los santuarios paganos, Asá se mantuvo siempre fiel al Señor.^[c]

He brought into the temple of the Lord the silver and gold and the articles that he and his father had dedicated.

Además, llevó al templo del Señor el oro, la plata y los utensilios que él y su padre habían consagrado.

There was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel throughout their reigns.

Durante los reinados de Asá y Basá, rey de Israel, hubo guerra entre ellos.

Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah and fortified Ramah to prevent anyone from leaving or entering the territory of Asa king of Judah.

Basá, rey de Israel, atacó a Judá y fortificó Ramá para aislar totalmente a Asá, rey de Judá.

Asa then took all the silver and gold that was left in the treasuries of the Lord’s temple and of his own palace. He entrusted it to his officials and sent them to Ben-Hadad son of Tabrimmon, the son of Hezion, the king of Aram, who was ruling in Damascus.

Entonces Asá tomó todo el oro y la plata que habían quedado en los tesoros del templo del Señor y de su propio palacio, y les encargó a sus funcionarios que se los llevaran a Ben Adad, hijo de Tabrimón y nieto de Hezión, rey de Siria, que estaba gobernando en Damasco. Y le envió este mensaje:

“Let there be a treaty between me and you,” he said, “as there was between my father and your father. See, I am sending you a gift of silver and gold. Now break your treaty with Baasha king of Israel so he will withdraw from me.”

«Hagamos tú y yo un tratado como el que antes hicieron tu padre y el mío. Aquí te envío un presente de oro y plata. Anula tu tratado con Basá, rey de Israel, para que se marche de aquí».

Ben-Hadad agreed with King Asa and sent the commanders of his forces against the towns of Israel. He conquered Ijon, Dan, Abel Beth Maakah and all Kinnereth in addition to Naphtali.

Ben Adad estuvo de acuerdo con el rey Asá y envió a los jefes de su ejército para que atacaran las ciudades de Israel. Así conquistó Iyón, Dan, Abel Betmacá y todo Quinéret, además de Neftalí.

When Baasha heard this, he stopped building Ramah and withdrew to Tirzah.

Cuando Basá se enteró, dejó de fortificar Ramá y se retiró a Tirsá.

Then King Asa issued an order to all Judah—no one was exempt—and they carried away from Ramah the stones and timber Baasha had been using there. With them King Asa built up Geba in Benjamin, and also Mizpah.

Entonces el rey Asá movilizó a todo Judá, sin eximir a nadie, y se llevaron de Ramá las piedras y la madera con que Basá había estado fortificando la ciudad. Con ellas el rey Asá fortificó Gueba de Benjamín, y también Mizpa.

As for all the other events of Asa’s reign, all his achievements, all he did and the cities he built, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? In his old age, however, his feet became diseased.

Los demás acontecimientos del reinado de Asá, y todo su poderío y todo lo que hizo, y lo que atañe a las ciudades que edificó, están escritos en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Judá. Sin embargo, en su vejez sufrió una enfermedad de los pies.

Then Asa rested with his ancestors and was buried with them in the city of his father David. And Jehoshaphat his son succeeded him as king.

Nadab King of Israel

Luego Asá murió y fue sepultado con sus antepasados en la Ciudad de David. Y su hijo Josafat lo sucedió en el trono.

Nadab, rey de Israel

Nadab son of Jeroboam became king of Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and he reigned over Israel two years.

En el segundo año de Asá, rey de Judá, Nadab hijo de Jeroboán ascendió al trono de Israel y reinó allí dos años.

He did evil in the eyes of the Lord, following the ways of his father and committing the same sin his father had caused Israel to commit.

Pero Nadab hizo lo que ofende al Señor, pues siguió el mal ejemplo de su padre, persistiendo en el mismo pecado con que este hizo pecar a Israel.

Baasha son of Ahijah from the tribe of Issachar plotted against him, and he struck him down at Gibbethon, a Philistine town, while Nadab and all Israel were besieging it.

Basá hijo de Ahías, de la tribu de Isacar, conspiró contra Nadab y lo derrotó en la ciudad filistea de Guibetón, a la que Nadab y todo Israel tenían sitiada.

Baasha killed Nadab in the third year of Asa king of Judah and succeeded him as king.

En el tercer año de Asá, rey de Judá, Basá mató a Nadab y lo sucedió en el trono.

As soon as he began to reign, he killed Jeroboam’s whole family. He did not leave Jeroboam anyone that breathed, but destroyed them all, according to the word of the Lord given through his servant Ahijah the Shilonite.

Tan pronto como comenzó a reinar, Basá mató a toda la familia de Jeroboán. No dejó vivo a ninguno de sus descendientes, sino que los eliminó a todos, según la palabra que el Señor dio a conocer por medio de su siervo Ahías el silonita.

This happened because of the sins Jeroboam had committed and had caused Israel to commit, and because he aroused the anger of the Lord, the God of Israel.

Esto sucedió a raíz de los pecados que Jeroboán cometió e hizo cometer a los israelitas, con lo que provocó la ira del Señor, Dios de Israel.

As for the other events of Nadab’s reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel?

There was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel throughout their reigns.

In the third year of Asa king of Judah, Baasha son of Ahijah became king of all Israel in Tirzah, and he reigned twenty-four years.

En el tercer año de Asá, rey de Judá, Basá hijo de Ahías ascendió al trono, y durante veinticuatro años reinó en Tirsá sobre todo Israel.

He did evil in the eyes of the Lord, following the ways of Jeroboam and committing the same sin Jeroboam had caused Israel to commit.

Basá hizo lo que ofende al Señor, pues siguió el mal ejemplo de Jeroboán, persistiendo en el mismo pecado con que este hizo pecar a Israel.
