Matthew 26

When Jesus had finished saying all these things, he said to his disciples,

Tendo dito essas coisas, disse Jesus aos seus discípulos:

“As you know, the Passover is two days away—and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.”

“Como vocês sabem, estamos a dois dias da Páscoa, e o Filho do homem será entregue para ser crucificado”.

Then the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled in the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas,

Naquela ocasião os chefes dos sacerdotes e os líderes religiosos do povo se reuniram no palácio do sumo sacerdote, cujo nome era Caifás,

and they schemed to arrest Jesus secretly and kill him.

e juntos planejaram prender Jesus à traição e matá-lo.

“But not during the festival,” they said, “or there may be a riot among the people.”

Jesus Anointed at Bethany

While Jesus was in Bethany in the home of Simon the Leper,

a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, which she poured on his head as he was reclining at the table.

When the disciples saw this, they were indignant. “Why this waste?” they asked.

Os discípulos, ao verem isso, ficaram indignados e perguntaram: “Por que este desperdício?

“This perfume could have been sold at a high price and the money given to the poor.”

Este perfume poderia ser vendido por alto preço, e o dinheiro dado aos pobres”.

Aware of this, Jesus said to them, “Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful thing to me.

The poor you will always have with you,^[a] but you will not always have me.

Pois os pobres vocês sempre terão consigo, mas a mim vocês nem sempre terão.

When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial.

Quando derramou este perfume sobre o meu corpo, ela o fez a fim de me preparar para o sepultamento.

Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.”

Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus

Eu lhes asseguro que em qualquer lugar do mundo inteiro onde este evangelho for anunciado, também o que ela fez será contado, em sua memória”.

A Conspiração

Then one of the Twelve—the one called Judas Iscariot—went to the chief priests

Então, um dos Doze, chamado Judas Iscariotes, dirigiu-se aos chefes dos sacerdotes

and asked, “What are you willing to give me if I deliver him over to you?” So they counted out for him thirty pieces of silver.

e lhes perguntou: “O que me darão se eu o entregar a vocês?” E lhe fixaram o preço: trinta moedas de prata.

From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over.

The Last Supper

Desse momento em diante Judas passou a procurar uma oportunidade para entregá-lo.

On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Where do you want us to make preparations for you to eat the Passover?”

No primeiro dia da festa dos pães sem fermento, os discípulos dirigiram-se a Jesus e lhe perguntaram: “Onde queres que preparemos a refeição da Páscoa?”

He replied, “Go into the city to a certain man and tell him, ‘The Teacher says: My appointed time is near. I am going to celebrate the Passover with my disciples at your house.’”

Ele respondeu dizendo que entrassem na cidade, procurassem um certo homem e lhe dissessem: “O Mestre diz: O meu tempo está próximo. Vou celebrar a Páscoa com meus discípulos em sua casa”.

So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them and prepared the Passover.

Os discípulos fizeram como Jesus os havia instruído e prepararam a Páscoa.

When evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the Twelve.

Ao anoitecer, Jesus estava reclinado à mesa com os Doze.

And while they were eating, he said, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me.”

E, enquanto estavam comendo, ele disse: “Digo-lhes que certamente um de vocês me trairá”.

They were very sad and began to say to him one after the other, “Surely you don’t mean me, Lord?”

Eles ficaram muito tristes e começaram a dizer-lhe, um após outro: “Com certeza não sou eu, Senhor!”

Jesus replied, “The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me.

Afirmou Jesus: “Aquele que comeu comigo do mesmo prato há de me trair.

The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.”

O Filho do homem vai, como está escrito a seu respeito. Mas ai daquele que trai o Filho do homem! Melhor lhe seria não haver nascido”.

Then Judas, the one who would betray him, said, “Surely you don’t mean me, Rabbi?”

Jesus answered, “You have said so.”

Então, Judas, que haveria de traí-lo, disse: “Com certeza não sou eu, Mestre^[a]!"

Jesus afirmou: “Sim, é você”^[b].

While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.”

Enquanto comiam, Jesus tomou o pão, deu graças, partiu-o, e o deu aos seus discípulos, dizendo: “Tomem e comam; isto é o meu corpo”.

Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you.

Em seguida tomou o cálice, deu graças e o ofereceu aos discípulos, dizendo: “Bebam dele todos vocês.

This is my blood of the^[b] covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

Isto é o meu sangue da aliança^[c], que é derramado em favor de muitos, para perdão de pecados.

I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”

Eu lhes digo que, de agora em diante, não beberei deste fruto da videira até aquele dia em que beberei o vinho novo com vocês no Reino de meu Pai”.

When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial

Depois de terem cantado um hino, saíram para o monte das Oliveiras.

Then Jesus told them, “This very night you will all fall away on account of me, for it is written:

Então Jesus lhes disse: “Ainda esta noite todos vocês me abandonarão. Pois está escrito:

But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.”

Mas, depois de ressuscitar, irei adiante de vocês para a Galiléia”.

Peter replied, “Even if all fall away on account of you, I never will.”

Pedro respondeu: “Ainda que todos te abandonem, eu nunca te abandonarei!”

“Truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “this very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.”

Respondeu Jesus: “Asseguro-lhe que ainda esta noite, antes que o galo cante, três vezes você me negará”.

But Peter declared, “Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you.” And all the other disciples said the same.

Gethsemane

Mas Pedro declarou: “Mesmo que seja preciso que eu morra contigo, nunca te negarei”. E todos os outros discípulos disseram o mesmo.

Jesus no Getsêmani

Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.”

Então Jesus foi com seus discípulos para um lugar chamado Getsêmani e lhes disse: “Sentem-se aqui enquanto vou ali orar”.

He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled.

Levando consigo Pedro e os dois filhos de Zebedeu, começou a entristecer-se e a angustiar-se.

Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”

Disse-lhes então: “A minha alma está profundamente triste, numa tristeza mortal. Fiquem aqui e vigiem comigo”.

Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”

Indo um pouco mais adiante, prostrou-se com o rosto em terra e orou: “Meu Pai, se for possível, afasta de mim este cálice; contudo, não seja como eu quero, mas sim como tu queres”.

Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Couldn’t you men keep watch with me for one hour?” he asked Peter.

Depois, voltou aos seus discípulos e os encontrou dormindo. “Vocês não puderam vigiar comigo nem por uma hora?”, perguntou ele a Pedro.

“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

“Vigiem e orem para que não caiam em tentação. O espírito está pronto, mas a carne é fraca.”

He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.”

E retirou-se outra vez para orar: “Meu Pai, se não for possível afastar de mim este cálice sem que eu o beba, faça-se a tua vontade”.

When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy.

Quando voltou, de novo os encontrou dormindo, porque seus olhos estavam pesados.

So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing.

Então os deixou novamente e orou pela terceira vez, dizendo as mesmas palavras.

Then he returned to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour has come, and the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners.

Depois voltou aos discípulos e lhes disse: “Vocês ainda dormem e descansam? Chegou a hora! Eis que o Filho do homem está sendo entregue nas mãos de pecadores.

Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!”

Jesus Arrested

Levantem-se e vamos! Aí vem aquele que me trai!”

Jesus é Preso

While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived. With him was a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and the elders of the people.

Enquanto ele ainda falava, chegou Judas, um dos Doze. Com ele estava uma grande multidão armada de espadas e varas, enviada pelos chefes dos sacerdotes e líderes religiosos do povo.

Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: “The one I kiss is the man; arrest him.”

O traidor havia combinado um sinal com eles, dizendo-lhes: “Aquele a quem eu saudar com um beijo, é ele; prendam-no”.

Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” and kissed him.

Dirigindo-se imediatamente a Jesus, Judas disse: “Salve, Mestre!”, e o beijou.

Jesus replied, “Do what you came for, friend.”^[d]

Then the men stepped forward, seized Jesus and arrested him.

Jesus perguntou: “Amigo, o que o traz?”^[e]

Então os homens se aproximaram, agarraram Jesus e o prenderam.

With that, one of Jesus’ companions reached for his sword, drew it out and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.

Um dos que estavam com Jesus, estendendo a mão, puxou a espada e feriu o servo do sumo sacerdote, decepando-lhe a orelha.

“Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.

Disse-lhe Jesus: “Guarde a espada! Pois todos os que empunham a espada, pela espada morrerão.

Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels?

Você acha que eu não posso pedir a meu Pai, e ele não colocaria imediatamente à minha disposição mais de doze legiões de anjos?

But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?”

Como então se cumpririam as Escrituras que dizem que as coisas deveriam acontecer desta forma?”

In that hour Jesus said to the crowd, “Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me? Every day I sat in the temple courts teaching, and you did not arrest me.

Naquela hora Jesus disse à multidão: “Estou eu chefiando alguma rebelião, para que vocês venham prender-me com espadas e varas? Todos os dias eu estive ensinando no templo, e vocês não me prenderam!

But this has all taken place that the writings of the prophets might be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples deserted him and fled.

Jesus Before the Sanhedrin

Mas tudo isso aconteceu para que se cumprissem as Escrituras dos profetas”. Então todos os discípulos o abandonaram e fugiram.

Jesus diante do Sinédrio

Those who had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas the high priest, where the teachers of the law and the elders had assembled.

Os que prenderam Jesus o levaram a Caifás, o sumo sacerdote, em cuja casa se haviam reunido os mestres da lei e os líderes religiosos.

But Peter followed him at a distance, right up to the courtyard of the high priest. He entered and sat down with the guards to see the outcome.

E Pedro o seguiu de longe até o pátio do sumo sacerdote, entrou e sentou-se com os guardas, para ver o que aconteceria.

The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death.

Os chefes dos sacerdotes e todo o Sinédrio^[f] estavam procurando um depoimento falso contra Jesus, para que pudessem condená-lo à morte.

But they did not find any, though many false witnesses came forward.

Finally two came forward

Mas nada encontraram, embora se apresentassem muitas falsas testemunhas.

Finalmente se apresentaram duas

and declared, “This fellow said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days.’”

que declararam: “Este homem disse: ‘Sou capaz de destruir o santuário de Deus e reconstruí-lo em três dias’”.

Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, “Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?”

Então o sumo sacerdote levantou-se e disse a Jesus: “Você não vai responder à acusação que estes lhe fazem?”

But Jesus remained silent.

The high priest said to him, “I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God.”

Mas Jesus permaneceu em silêncio.

O sumo sacerdote lhe disse: “Exijo que você jure pelo Deus vivo: se você é o Cristo, o Filho de Deus, diga-nos”.

“You have said so,” Jesus replied. “But I say to all of you: From now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.”^[e]

“Tu mesmo o disseste”^[g], respondeu Jesus. “Mas eu digo a todos vós: Chegará o dia em que vereis o Filho do homem assentado à direita do Poderoso e vindo sobre as nuvens do céu.”

Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, “He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard the blasphemy.

Foi quando o sumo sacerdote rasgou as próprias vestes e disse: “Blasfemou! Por que precisamos de mais testemunhas? Vocês acabaram de ouvir a blasfêmia.

What do you think?”

“He is worthy of death,” they answered.

O que acham?”

“É réu de morte!”, responderam eles.

Then they spit in his face and struck him with their fists. Others slapped him

Então alguns lhe cuspiram no rosto e lhe deram murros. Outros lhe davam tapas

and said, “Prophesy to us, Messiah. Who hit you?”

Peter Disowns Jesus

e diziam: “Profetize-nos, Cristo. Quem foi que lhe bateu?”

Pedro Nega Jesus

Now Peter was sitting out in the courtyard, and a servant girl came to him. “You also were with Jesus of Galilee,” she said.

Pedro estava sentado no pátio, e uma criada, aproximando-se dele, disse: “Você também estava com Jesus, o galileu”.

But he denied it before them all. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he said.

Mas ele o negou diante de todos, dizendo: “Não sei do que você está falando”.

Then he went out to the gateway, where another servant girl saw him and said to the people there, “This fellow was with Jesus of Nazareth.”

Depois, saiu em direção à porta, onde outra criada o viu e disse aos que estavam ali: “Este homem estava com Jesus, o Nazareno”.

He denied it again, with an oath: “I don’t know the man!”

E ele, jurando, o negou outra vez: “Não conheço esse homem!”

After a little while, those standing there went up to Peter and said, “Surely you are one of them; your accent gives you away.”

Pouco tempo depois, os que estavam por ali chegaram a Pedro e disseram: “Certamente você é um deles! O seu modo de falar o denuncia”.

Then he began to call down curses, and he swore to them, “I don’t know the man!”

Immediately a rooster crowed.

Aí ele começou a se amaldiçoar e a jurar: “Não conheço esse homem!”

Imediatamente um galo cantou.

Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: “Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.” And he went outside and wept bitterly.

Então Pedro se lembrou da palavra que Jesus tinha dito: “Antes que o galo cante, você me negará três vezes”. E, saindo dali, chorou amargamente.
