Job 37

“At this my heart pounds
    and leaps from its place.

“Diante disso o meu coração
    bate aceleradamente
e salta do seu lugar.

Listen! Listen to the roar of his voice,
    to the rumbling that comes from his mouth.

Ouça! Escute o estrondo da sua voz,
o trovejar da sua boca.

He unleashes his lightning beneath the whole heaven
    and sends it to the ends of the earth.

Ele solta os seus relâmpagos
    por baixo de toda a extensão do céu
e os manda para os confins da terra.

After that comes the sound of his roar;
    he thunders with his majestic voice.
When his voice resounds,
    he holds nothing back.

Depois vem o som
    do seu grande estrondo:
ele troveja com sua majestosa voz.
Quando a sua voz ressoa,
nada o faz recuar.

God’s voice thunders in marvelous ways;
    he does great things beyond our understanding.

A voz de Deus troveja
    maravilhosamente;
ele faz coisas grandiosas,
acima do nosso entendimento.

He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth,’
    and to the rain shower, ‘Be a mighty downpour.’

Ele diz à neve: ‘Caia sobre a terra’,
    e à chuva: ‘Seja um forte aguaceiro’.

So that everyone he has made may know his work,
    he stops all people from their labor.^[a]

Ele paralisa
    o trabalho de cada homem,
a fim de que todos os que ele criou
    conheçam a sua obra.^[a]

The animals take cover;
    they remain in their dens.

Os animais vão
    para os seus esconderijos,
    e ficam nas suas tocas.

The tempest comes out from its chamber,
    the cold from the driving winds.

A tempestade sai da sua câmara,
e dos ventos vem o frio.

The breath of God produces ice,
    and the broad waters become frozen.

O sopro de Deus produz gelo,
    e as vastas águas se congelam.

He loads the clouds with moisture;
    he scatters his lightning through them.

Também carrega de umidade
    as nuvens,
e entre elas espalha
    os seus relâmpagos.

At his direction they swirl around
    over the face of the whole earth
    to do whatever he commands them.

Ele as faz girar, circulando
    sobre a superfície de toda a terra,
para fazerem tudo
    o que ele lhes ordenar.

He brings the clouds to punish people,
    or to water his earth and show his love.

Ele traz as nuvens,
ora para castigar os homens,
ora para regar a sua terra^[b]
    e lhes mostrar o seu amor.

“Listen to this, Job;
    stop and consider God’s wonders.

“Escute isto, Jó;
    pare e reflita nas maravilhas de Deus.

Do you know how God controls the clouds
    and makes his lightning flash?

Acaso você sabe como Deus
    comanda as nuvens
e faz brilhar os seus relâmpagos?

Do you know how the clouds hang poised,
    those wonders of him who has perfect knowledge?

Você sabe como ficam
    suspensas as nuvens,
essas maravilhas daquele
    que tem perfeito conhecimento?

You who swelter in your clothes
    when the land lies hushed under the south wind,

Você, que em sua roupa
    desfalece de calor
quando a terra fica amortecida
    sob o vento sul,

can you join him in spreading out the skies,
    hard as a mirror of cast bronze?

pode ajudá-lo a estender os céus,
    duros como espelho de bronze?

“Tell us what we should say to him;
    we cannot draw up our case because of our darkness.

“Diga-nos o que devemos
    dizer a ele;
não podemos elaborar a nossa defesa
    por causa das nossas trevas.

Should he be told that I want to speak?
    Would anyone ask to be swallowed up?

Deve-se dizer-lhe
    o que lhe quero falar?
Quem pediria para ser devorado?

Now no one can look at the sun,
    bright as it is in the skies
    after the wind has swept them clean.

Ninguém pode olhar
    para o fulgor do sol nos céus,
depois que o vento os clareia.

Out of the north he comes in golden splendor;
    God comes in awesome majesty.

Do norte vem luz dourada;
Deus vem em temível majestade.

The Almighty is beyond our reach and exalted in power;
    in his justice and great righteousness, he does not oppress.

Fora de nosso alcance
    está o Todo-poderoso,
exaltado em poder;
mas, em sua justiça e retidão,
    não oprime ninguém.

Therefore, people revere him,
    for does he not have regard for all the wise in heart?^[b]”
