The word of the Lord came to me:

“What do you people mean by quoting this proverb about the land of Israel:
“‘The parents eat sour grapes,
and the children’s teeth are set on edge’?
“O que vocês querem dizer quando citam este provérbio sobre Israel:
“‘Os pais comem uvas verdes,
e os dentes dos filhos se embotam’?

“As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, you will no longer quote this proverb in Israel.
“Juro pela minha vida, palavra do Soberano, o Senhor, que vocês não citarão mais esse provérbio em Israel.

For everyone belongs to me, the parent as well as the child—both alike belong to me. The one who sins is the one who will die.
Pois todos me pertencem. Tanto o pai como o filho me pertencem. Aquele que pecar é que morrerá.

who does what is just and right.

Will such a man live? He will not! Because he has done all these detestable things, he is to be put to death; his blood will be on his own head.

But his father will die for his own sin, because he practiced extortion, robbed his brother and did what was wrong among his people.
Mas seu pai morrerá por causa de sua própria iniqüidade, pois praticou extorsão, roubou seu compatriota e fez o que era errado no meio de seu povo.

“Yet you ask, ‘Why does the son not share the guilt of his father?’ Since the son has done what is just and right and has been careful to keep all my decrees, he will surely live.
“Contudo, vocês perguntam: ‘Por que o filho não partilha da culpa de seu pai?’ Uma vez que o filho fez o que é justo e direito e teve o cuidado de obedecer a todos os meus decretos, com certeza ele viverá.

The one who sins is the one who will die. The child will not share the guilt of the parent, nor will the parent share the guilt of the child. The righteousness of the righteous will be credited to them, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against them.
Aquele que pecar é que morrerá. O filho não levará a culpa do pai, nem o pai levará a culpa do filho. A justiça do justo lhe será creditada, e a impiedade do ímpio lhe será cobrada.

“But if a wicked person turns away from all the sins they have committed and keeps all my decrees and does what is just and right, that person will surely live; they will not die.
“Mas, se um ímpio se desviar de todos os pecados que cometeu e obedecer a todos os meus decretos e fizer o que é justo e direito, com certeza viverá; não morrerá.

None of the offenses they have committed will be remembered against them. Because of the righteous things they have done, they will live.
Não se terá lembrança de nenhuma das ofensas que cometeu. Devido às coisas justas que tiver feito, ele viverá.

Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign Lord. Rather, am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live?
Teria eu algum prazer na morte do ímpio? Palavra do Soberano, o Senhor. Ao contrário, acaso não me agrada vê-lo desviar-se dos seus caminhos e viver?

“But if a righteous person turns from their righteousness and commits sin and does the same detestable things the wicked person does, will they live? None of the righteous things that person has done will be remembered. Because of the unfaithfulness they are guilty of and because of the sins they have committed, they will die.
“Se, porém, um justo se desviar de sua justiça, e cometer pecado e as mesmas práticas detestáveis dos ímpios, deverá ele viver? Nenhum de seus atos justos será lembrado! Por causa da infidelidade de que é culpado e por causa dos pecados que cometeu, ele morrerá.

“Yet you say, ‘The way of the Lord is not just.’ Hear, you Israelites: Is my way unjust? Is it not your ways that are unjust?
“Contudo, vocês dizem: ‘O caminho do Senhor não é justo’. Ouça, ó nação de Israel: O meu caminho é injusto? Não são os seus caminhos que são injustos?

If a righteous person turns from their righteousness and commits sin, they will die for it; because of the sin they have committed they will die.
Se um justo desviar-se de sua justiça e cometer pecado, ele morrerá por causa disso; por causa do pecado que cometeu morrerá.

But if a wicked person turns away from the wickedness they have committed and does what is just and right, they will save their life.
Mas, se um ímpio se desviar de sua maldade e fizer o que é justo e direito, ele salvará sua vida.

Because they consider all the offenses they have committed and turn away from them, that person will surely live; they will not die.
Por considerar todas as ofensas que cometeu e se desviar delas, ele com certeza viverá; não morrerá.

Yet the Israelites say, ‘The way of the Lord is not just.’ Are my ways unjust, people of Israel? Is it not your ways that are unjust?
Contudo, a nação de Israel diz: ‘O caminho do Senhor não é justo’. São injustos os meus caminhos, ó nação de Israel? Não são os seus caminhos que são injustos?

“Therefore, you Israelites, I will judge each of you according to your own ways, declares the Sovereign Lord. Repent! Turn away from all your offenses; then sin will not be your downfall.
“Portanto, ó nação de Israel, eu os julgarei, a cada um de acordo com os seus caminhos. Palavra do Soberano, o Senhor. Arrependam-se! Desviem-se de todos os seus males, para que o pecado não cause a queda de vocês.

Rid yourselves of all the offenses you have committed, and get a new heart and a new spirit. Why will you die, people of Israel?
Livrem-se de todos os males que vocês cometeram, e busquem um coração novo e um espírito novo. Por que deveriam morrer, ó nação de Israel?

For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign Lord. Repent and live!
Pois não me agrada a morte de ninguém. Palavra do Soberano, o Senhor. Arrependam-se e vivam!
