Ephesians 5

Portanto, sejam imitadores de Deus, como filhos amados,

and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

e vivam em amor, como também Cristo nos amou e se entregou por nós como oferta e sacrifício de aroma agradável a Deus.

But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.

Entre vocês não deve haver nem sequer menção de imoralidade sexual como também de nenhuma espécie de impureza e de cobiça; pois essas coisas não são próprias para os santos.

Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.

Não haja obscenidade, nem conversas tolas, nem gracejos imorais, que são inconvenientes, mas, ao invés disso, ações de graças.

For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.^[a]

Porque vocês podem estar certos disto: nenhum imoral, ou impuro, ou ganancioso, que é idólatra, tem herança no Reino de Cristo e de Deus^[a].

Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient.

Ninguém os engane com palavras tolas, pois é por causa dessas coisas que a ira de Deus vem sobre os que vivem na desobediência.

Therefore do not be partners with them.

Portanto, não participem com eles dessas coisas.

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light

Porque outrora vocês eram trevas, mas agora são luz no Senhor. Vivam como filhos da luz,

(for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth)

pois o fruto da luz^[b] consiste em toda bondade, justiça e verdade;

and find out what pleases the Lord.

e aprendam a discernir o que é agradável ao Senhor.

Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.

Não participem das obras infrutíferas das trevas; antes, exponham-nas à luz.

It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret.

Porque aquilo que eles fazem em oculto, até mencionar é vergonhoso.

But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light.

Mas, tudo o que é exposto pela luz torna-se visível, pois a luz torna visíveis todas as coisas.

This is why it is said:

Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise,

Tenham cuidado com a maneira como vocês vivem; que não seja como insensatos, mas como sábios,

making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.

aproveitando ao máximo cada oportunidade, porque os dias são maus.

Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.

Portanto, não sejam insensatos, mas procurem compreender qual é a vontade do Senhor.

Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit,

Não se embriaguem com vinho, que leva à libertinagem, mas deixem-se encher pelo Espírito,

speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord,

falando entre si com salmos, hinos e cânticos espirituais, cantando e louvando de coração ao Senhor,

always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Instructions for Christian Households

Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.

Sujeitem-se uns aos outros, por temor a Cristo.

Deveres Conjugais

Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord.

Mulheres, sujeite-se cada uma a seu marido, como ao Senhor,

For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.

pois o marido é o cabeça da mulher, como também Cristo é o cabeça da igreja, que é o seu corpo, do qual ele é o Salvador.

Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

Assim como a igreja está sujeita a Cristo, também as mulheres estejam em tudo sujeitas a seus maridos.

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her

Maridos, ame cada um a sua mulher, assim como Cristo amou a igreja e entregou-se por ela

to make her holy, cleansing^[b] her by the washing with water through the word,

para santificá-la, tendo-a purificado pelo lavar da água mediante a palavra,

and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.

e para apresentá-la a si mesmo como igreja gloriosa, sem mancha nem ruga ou coisa semelhante, mas santa e inculpável.

In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.

Da mesma forma, os maridos devem amar cada um a sua mulher como a seu próprio corpo. Quem ama sua mulher, ama a si mesmo.

After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church—

Além do mais, ninguém jamais odiou o seu próprio corpo^[c], antes o alimenta e dele cuida, como também Cristo faz com a igreja,

for we are members of his body.

pois somos membros do seu corpo.

“For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”^[c]

“Por essa razão, o homem deixará pai e mãe e se unirá à sua mulher, e os dois se tornarão uma só carne.”^[d]

This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church.

Este é um mistério profundo; refiro-me, porém, a Cristo e à igreja.

However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

Portanto, cada um de vocês também ame a sua mulher como a si mesmo, e a mulher trate o marido com todo o respeito.
