1 Thessalonians 2

You know, brothers and sisters, that our visit to you was not without results.

Voi înşivă ştiţi, fraţilor, că venirea noastră la voi n-a fost în zadar.

We had previously suffered and been treated outrageously in Philippi, as you know, but with the help of our God we dared to tell you his gospel in the face of strong opposition.

După ce am suferit şi am fost batjocoriţi în Filipi, aşa cum ştiţi, am venit plini de încredere în Dumnezeul nostru să vă vorbim despre Evanghelia Lui, în ciuda unei mari împotriviri.

For the appeal we make does not spring from error or impure motives, nor are we trying to trick you.

Căci apelul nostru nu vine dintr-o învăţătură greşită, nici din necurăţie, nici din viclenie,

On the contrary, we speak as those approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please people but God, who tests our hearts.

ci, aşa cum Dumnezeu ne-a găsit vrednici să ne încredinţeze Evanghelia, tot aşa vorbim şi noi, căutând să fim plăcuţi nu oamenilor, ci lui Dumnezeu, Care ne cercetează inimile.

You know we never used flattery, nor did we put on a mask to cover up greed—God is our witness.

Voi ştiţi că nu ne-am linguşit şi nici nu ne-am prefăcut, ca să ascundem vreo lăcomie, – Dumnezeu ne este martor –,

We were not looking for praise from people, not from you or anyone else, even though as apostles of Christ we could have asserted our authority.

nici n-am căutat să fim onoraţi de oameni – nici de voi, nici de alţii.

Instead, we were like young children^[a] among you.

Just as a nursing mother cares for her children,

Ca apostoli ai lui Cristos am fi putut fi o povară pentru voi, dar am fost blânzi cu voi, ca o mamă care-şi îngrijeşte copiii.

so we cared for you. Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well.

Astfel, datorită afecţiunii noastre pentru voi, am fost gata să împărtăşim cu voi nu doar Evanghelia lui Dumnezeu, ci şi vieţile noastre, pentru că ne-aţi devenit atât de dragi.

Surely you remember, brothers and sisters, our toil and hardship; we worked night and day in order not to be a burden to anyone while we preached the gospel of God to you.

Vă amintiţi, fraţilor, de munca şi osteneala noastră, cum, în timp ce v-am predicat Evanghelia lui Dumnezeu, am lucrat zi şi noapte, ca să nu fim o povară pentru nici unul dintre voi.

You are witnesses, and so is God, of how holy, righteous and blameless we were among you who believed.

Voi sunteţi martori – şi Dumnezeu de asemenea – că purtarea noastră faţă de voi, cei care credeţi, a fost sfântă, dreaptă şi fără pată.

For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children,

Aşa cum ştiţi, ne-am ocupat de fiecare dintre voi, ca un tată de copiii săi,

encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory.

încurajându-vă, îndemnându-vă şi insistând să trăiţi într-un mod vrednic de Dumnezeu, Care v-a chemat în Împărăţia^[a] şi slava Lui.

And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe.

Noi, de asemenea, Îi mulţumim lui Dumnezeu neîncetat pentru că, atunci când aţi primit Cuvântul lui Dumnezeu, pe care l-aţi auzit de la noi, l-aţi primit nu ca pe un cuvânt al oamenilor, ci, aşa cum şi este de fapt, ca pe Cuvântul lui Dumnezeu, care lucrează în voi, cei ce credeţi.

For you, brothers and sisters, became imitators of God’s churches in Judea, which are in Christ Jesus: You suffered from your own people the same things those churches suffered from the Jews

Voi, fraţilor, aţi urmat exemplul^[b] bisericilor lui Dumnezeu care sunt în Iudeea, şi care sunt în Cristos Isus, pentru că şi voi aţi suferit aceeaşi persecuţie din partea compatrioţilor voştri, pe care au suferit-o şi ele din partea iudeilor,

who killed the Lord Jesus and the prophets and also drove us out. They displease God and are hostile to everyone

care L-au omorât pe Domnul Isus şi pe profeţi, iar pe noi ne-au persecutat. Iudeii aceştia nu sunt plăcuţi lui Dumnezeu şi sunt potrivnici tuturor oamenilor,

in their effort to keep us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved. In this way they always heap up their sins to the limit. The wrath of God has come upon them at last.^[b]

Paul’s Longing to See the Thessalonians

căci ne împiedică să le vorbim neamurilor pentru a fi mântuite. Astfel, ei întotdeauna umplu măsura păcatelor lor. Dar, în cele din urmă, i-a ajuns mânia lui Dumnezeu.^[c]

But, brothers and sisters, when we were orphaned by being separated from you for a short time (in person, not in thought), out of our intense longing we made every effort to see you.

Fraţilor, atunci când, pentru puţin timp, am fost despărţiţi de voi, – în persoană, dar nu cu inima –, am dorit cu şi mai mare ardoare să vă vedem.

For we wanted to come to you—certainly I, Paul, did, again and again—but Satan blocked our way.

Am vrut să venim la voi, – cel puţin eu, Pavel, am vrut din nou şi din nou –, dar Satan^[d] ne-a împiedicat.

For what is our hope, our joy, or the crown in which we will glory in the presence of our Lord Jesus when he comes? Is it not you?

Care este nădejdea sau bucuria, sau cununa cu care ne lăudăm înaintea Domnului nostru Isus, la venirea Lui? Oare nu voi?

Indeed, you are our glory and joy.

Într-adevăr, voi sunteţi gloria şi bucuria noastră!
