1 Kings 22

For three years there was no war between Aram and Israel.

Timp de trei ani, n-a mai fost nici un război între Aram şi Israel.

But in the third year Jehoshaphat king of Judah went down to see the king of Israel.

După trei ani, Iehoşafat, regele lui Iuda, s-a dus la regele lui Israel.

The king of Israel had said to his officials, “Don’t you know that Ramoth Gilead belongs to us and yet we are doing nothing to retake it from the king of Aram?”

Regele lui Israel le spusese slujitorilor săi: „Ştiţi că cetatea Ramot-Ghilad este a noastră, iar noi nu facem nimic pentru a o lua înapoi de la regele Aramului!“

So he asked Jehoshaphat, “Will you go with me to fight against Ramoth Gilead?”

Jehoshaphat replied to the king of Israel, “I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.”

El l-a întrebat pe Iehoşafat:

– Vrei să mergi cu mine la război împotriva Ramot-Ghiladului?

– Eu şi cu tine vom fi una, poporul meu ca poporul tău şi caii mei ca ai tăi, i-a răspuns Iehoşafat regelui lui Israel.

But Jehoshaphat also said to the king of Israel, “First seek the counsel of the Lord.”

Însă Iehoşafat i-a mai zis regelui lui Israel:

– Întreabă, te rog, mai întâi Cuvântul Domnului.

So the king of Israel brought together the prophets—about four hundred men—and asked them, “Shall I go to war against Ramoth Gilead, or shall I refrain?”

“Go,” they answered, “for the Lord will give it into the king’s hand.”

Regele lui Israel i-a adunat pe profeţi, aproape patru sute de bărbaţi, şi i-a întrebat:

– Să mă duc la război împotriva Ramot-Ghiladului sau să renunţ?

– Du-te, i-au răspuns ei, pentru că Domnul îl va da în mâna regelui!

But Jehoshaphat asked, “Is there no longer a prophet of the Lord here whom we can inquire of?”

– Nu mai este aici nici un alt profet al Domnului^[a] ca să-l putem întreba? a întrebat Iehoşafat.

The king of Israel answered Jehoshaphat, “There is still one prophet through whom we can inquire of the Lord, but I hate him because he never prophesies anything good about me, but always bad. He is Micaiah son of Imlah.”

“The king should not say such a thing,” Jehoshaphat replied.

Regele lui Israel i-a răspuns:

– Mai este unul, pe nume Micaia, fiul lui Imla, prin care-L putem întreba pe Domnul, dar eu îl urăsc, pentru că nu profeţeşte nimic bun cu privire la mine, ci numai rău.

– Să nu vorbească regele aşa, i-a zis Iehoşafat.

So the king of Israel called one of his officials and said, “Bring Micaiah son of Imlah at once.”

Atunci regele lui Israel a chemat o căpetenie^[b] şi i-a spus:

– Cheamă-l repede pe Micaia, fiul lui Imla!

Dressed in their royal robes, the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah were sitting on their thrones at the threshing floor by the entrance of the gate of Samaria, with all the prophets prophesying before them.

Regele lui Israel şi Iehoşafat, regele lui Iuda, îmbrăcaţi în hainele regale, şedeau pe câte un tron în aria de treierat de la intrarea porţii Samariei şi toţi profeţii profeţeau înaintea lor.

Now Zedekiah son of Kenaanah had made iron horns and he declared, “This is what the Lord says: ‘With these you will gore the Arameans until they are destroyed.’”

Zedechia, fiul lui Chenaana, îşi făcuse nişte coarne de fier şi spunea: „Aşa vorbeşte Domnul: «Cu aceste coarne îi vei străpunge pe aramei până îi vei nimici!»“

All the other prophets were prophesying the same thing. “Attack Ramoth Gilead and be victorious,” they said, “for the Lord will give it into the king’s hand.”

Şi toţi ceilalţi profeţi profeţeau la fel: „Atacă Ramot-Ghiladul şi biruieşte! Domnul îl va da în mâna regelui!“

The messenger who had gone to summon Micaiah said to him, “Look, the other prophets without exception are predicting success for the king. Let your word agree with theirs, and speak favorably.”

Mesagerul care s-a dus să-l cheme pe Micaia i-a spus acestuia:

– Toţi profeţii îi vestesc de bine regelui. Să fie şi cuvântul tău ca al fiecăruia dintre ei şi să vesteşti de bine!

But Micaiah said, “As surely as the Lord lives, I can tell him only what the Lord tells me.”

– Viu este Domnul că voi vesti doar ceea ce-mi va spune Domnul, i-a răspuns Micaia.

When he arrived, the king asked him, “Micaiah, shall we go to war against Ramoth Gilead, or not?”

“Attack and be victorious,” he answered, “for the Lord will give it into the king’s hand.”

Când a ajuns la rege, acesta l-a întrebat:

– Micaia, să ne ducem la război împotriva Ramot-Ghiladului sau să renunţăm?

– Du-te şi biruieşte, i-a răspuns el, căci Domnul îl va da în mâna regelui.

The king said to him, “How many times must I make you swear to tell me nothing but the truth in the name of the Lord?”

– De câte ori trebuie să te pun să juri că nu-mi vei spune decât adevărul în Numele Domnului? l-a întrebat regele.

Then Micaiah answered, “I saw all Israel scattered on the hills like sheep without a shepherd, and the Lord said, ‘These people have no master. Let each one go home in peace.’”

Atunci el a răspuns:

– Am văzut tot Israelul risipit pe munţi ca o turmă de oi care nu are păstor, iar Domnul a zis: „Aceşti oameni nu au stăpân! Să se întoarcă fiecare în pace acasă!“

The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “Didn’t I tell you that he never prophesies anything good about me, but only bad?”

Regele lui Israel i-a zis lui Iehoşafat:

– Nu ţi-am spus că nu profeţeşte nimic bun cu privire la mine, ci numai rău?

Micaiah continued, “Therefore hear the word of the Lord: I saw the Lord sitting on his throne with all the multitudes of heaven standing around him on his right and on his left.

Micaia a mai zis:

– Ascultă deci Cuvântul Domnului! L-am văzut pe Domnul şezând pe tronul Său şi toată oştirea cerurilor am văzut-o stând în picioare lângă El, la dreapta şi la stânga Lui.

And the Lord said, ‘Who will entice Ahab into attacking Ramoth Gilead and going to his death there?’

“One suggested this, and another that.

Şi Domnul a întrebat:

– Cine-l va amăgi pe Ahab ca să se ducă la Ramot-Ghilad şi să piară acolo?

Unul a răspuns într-un fel, altul a răspuns în alt fel.

Finally, a spirit came forward, stood before the Lord and said, ‘I will entice him.’

Apoi a venit un duh, s-a înfăţişat înaintea Domnului şi I-a zis:

– Eu îl voi amăgi.

– Cum? l-a întrebat Domnul.

“‘By what means?’ the Lord asked.

“‘I will go out and be a deceiving spirit in the mouths of all his prophets,’ he said.

“‘You will succeed in enticing him,’ said the Lord. ‘Go and do it.’

– Voi ieşi, a răspuns el, şi voi fi un duh de minciună în gura tuturor profeţilor lui.

Şi Domnul i-a zis:

– Îl vei amăgi şi vei reuşi! Du-te şi fă aşa!

“So now the Lord has put a deceiving spirit in the mouths of all these prophets of yours. The Lord has decreed disaster for you.”

Astfel, Domnul a pus un duh de minciună în gura tuturor acestor profeţi ai tăi. Domnul a rostit nenorocirea împotriva ta.

Then Zedekiah son of Kenaanah went up and slapped Micaiah in the face. “Which way did the spirit from^[a] the Lord go when he went from me to speak to you?” he asked.

Atunci Zedechia, fiul lui Chenaana, s-a apropiat, l-a lovit pe Micaia peste obraz şi i-a zis:

– Pe unde a ieşit Duhul Domnului^[c] de la mine ca să-ţi vorbească?

Micaiah replied, “You will find out on the day you go to hide in an inner room.”

– Vei vedea în ziua în care vei fugi dintr-o odaie în alta ca să te ascunzi! i-a răspuns Micaia.

The king of Israel then ordered, “Take Micaiah and send him back to Amon the ruler of the city and to Joash the king’s son

După aceea, regele lui Israel a zis:

– Ia-l pe Micaia, du-l înapoi la Amon, conducătorul cetăţii, şi la Ioaş, fiul regelui,

and say, ‘This is what the king says: Put this fellow in prison and give him nothing but bread and water until I return safely.’”

şi spune-le acestora că aşa vorbeşte regele: „Puneţi-l pe acest om în temniţă şi hrăniţi-l cu pâinea întristării şi cu apa întristării până mă voi întoarce în pace!“

Micaiah declared, “If you ever return safely, the Lord has not spoken through me.” Then he added, “Mark my words, all you people!”

Ahab Killed at Ramoth Gilead

Dar Micaia a spus:

– Dacă te vei întoarce în pace, înseamnă că nu Domnul a vorbit prin mine. Voi cei prezenţi, ascultaţi cu toţii! a mai adăugat el.

Moartea lui Ahab

So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah went up to Ramoth Gilead.

Regele lui Israel împreună cu Iehoşafat, regele lui Iuda, s-au dus la Ramot-Ghilad.

The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “I will enter the battle in disguise, but you wear your royal robes.” So the king of Israel disguised himself and went into battle.

Regele lui Israel i-a zis lui Iehoşafat: „Eu mă voi deghiza şi voi intra în luptă îmbrăcat astfel. Tu însă îmbracă-te cu hainele tale regale.“ Regele lui Israel s-a deghizat şi, îmbrăcat astfel, a intrat în luptă.

Now the king of Aram had ordered his thirty-two chariot commanders, “Do not fight with anyone, small or great, except the king of Israel.”

Regele Aramului le poruncise celor treizeci şi două de căpetenii ale carelor sale astfel: „Să nu vă luptaţi nici cu cei mici, nici cu cei mari, ci numai cu regele lui Israel!“

When the chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat, they thought, “Surely this is the king of Israel.” So they turned to attack him, but when Jehoshaphat cried out,

Când căpeteniile carelor l-au văzut pe Iehoşafat, şi-au zis: „Cu siguranţă acesta este regele lui Israel!“ Şi s-au întors spre el ca să-l atace. Atunci Iehoşafat a strigat după ajutor;

the chariot commanders saw that he was not the king of Israel and stopped pursuing him.

dar când căpeteniile carelor şi-au dat seama că nu este el regele lui Israel, l-au lăsat în pace.

But someone drew his bow at random and hit the king of Israel between the sections of his armor. The king told his chariot driver, “Wheel around and get me out of the fighting. I’ve been wounded.”

După aceea un arcaş a tras cu arcul la întâmplare şi l-a lovit pe regele lui Israel între armură şi zale. Regele i-a poruncit celui care mâna carul: „Întoarce şi scoate-mă de pe câmpul de luptă, pentru că am fost rănit!“

All day long the battle raged, and the king was propped up in his chariot facing the Arameans. The blood from his wound ran onto the floor of the chariot, and that evening he died.

Lupta s-a înteţit în ziua aceea. Regele a rămas în picioare în car, în văzul arameilor, dar seara a murit. Sângele din rană i-a curs în interiorul carului.

As the sun was setting, a cry spread through the army: “Every man to his town. Every man to his land!”

Când a apus soarele, s-a strigat în tabără: „Fiecare să plece în cetatea lui! Fiecare să plece în ţara lui!“

So the king died and was brought to Samaria, and they buried him there.

Astfel, regele a murit şi a fost dus la Samaria, unde l-au înmormântat.

They washed the chariot at a pool in Samaria (where the prostitutes bathed),^[b] and the dogs licked up his blood, as the word of the Lord had declared.

Când au spălat carul într-un iaz din Samaria, câinii

i-au lins sângele, iar prostituatele s-au scăldat acolo, potrivit cuvântului pe care-l spusese Domnul.

As for the other events of Ahab’s reign, including all he did, the palace he built and adorned with ivory, and the cities he fortified, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel?

Celelalte fapte ale lui Ahab, tot ce a făcut el, palatul de fildeş pe care l-a construit şi toate cetăţile pe care le-a zidit, nu sunt scrise oare în „Cartea cronicilor regilor lui Israel“?

Ahab rested with his ancestors. And Ahaziah his son succeeded him as king.

Jehoshaphat King of Judah

Ahab s-a culcat alături de părinţii săi, iar în locul său a domnit fiul său Ahazia.

Domnia lui Iehoşafat peste Iuda

Jehoshaphat son of Asa became king of Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel.

Iehoşafat, fiul lui Asa, a început să domnească peste Iuda în al patrulea an al domniei lui Ahab, regele lui Israel.

Jehoshaphat was thirty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem twenty-five years. His mother’s name was Azubah daughter of Shilhi.

Iehoşafat avea treizeci şi cinci de ani când a devenit rege şi a domnit la Ierusalim timp de douăzeci şi cinci de ani. Mama lui se numea Azuba şi era fiica lui Şilhi.

In everything he followed the ways of his father Asa and did not stray from them; he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord. The high places, however, were not removed, and the people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense there.^[c]

El a umblat în toate căile tatălui său, Asa, şi nu s-a abătut de la ele, făcând ce e drept înaintea Domnului. Totuşi înălţimile nu au fost îndepărtate, iar poporul mai aducea încă jertfe şi ardea tămâie pe înălţimi.

Jehoshaphat was also at peace with the king of Israel.

De asemenea, Iehoşafat a trăit în pace cu regele lui Israel.

As for the other events of Jehoshaphat’s reign, the things he achieved and his military exploits, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah?

Celelalte fapte ale lui Iehoşafat, puterea pe care a arătat-o şi războaiele pe care le-a purtat, nu sunt scrise oare în „Cartea cronicilor regilor lui Iuda“?

He rid the land of the rest of the male shrine prostitutes who remained there even after the reign of his father Asa.

El i-a nimicit pe bărbaţii care se prostituau^[d] şi care rămăseseră în ţară de pe vremea tatălui său, Asa.

There was then no king in Edom; a provincial governor ruled.

În acea perioadă, nu era rege în Edom. În locul regelui era un guvernator.

Now Jehoshaphat built a fleet of trading ships^[d] to go to Ophir for gold, but they never set sail—they were wrecked at Ezion Geber.

Iehoşafat a făcut nişte corăbii pentru negoţ^[e], care să meargă la Ofir după aur, dar n-au mai plecat, pentru că au fost sfărâmate la Eţion-Gheber.

At that time Ahaziah son of Ahab said to Jehoshaphat, “Let my men sail with yours,” but Jehoshaphat refused.

Atunci Ahazia, fiul lui Ahab, i-a zis lui Iehoşafat: „Să meargă slujitorii mei împreună cu slujitorii tăi cu corăbiile!“ Dar Iehoşafat nu a vrut.

Then Jehoshaphat rested with his ancestors and was buried with them in the city of David his father. And Jehoram his son succeeded him as king.

Ahaziah King of Israel

Iehoşafat s-a culcat alături de părinţii săi şi a fost înmormântat alături de părinţii săi, în cetatea strămoşului său David, iar în locul lui a domnit fiul său Iehoram.

Domnia lui Ahazia peste Israel

Ahaziah son of Ahab became king of Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and he reigned over Israel two years.

Ahazia, fiul lui Ahab, a început să domnească peste Israel în Samaria în al şaptesprezecelea an al domniei lui Iehoşafat, regele lui Iuda, şi a domnit timp de doi ani peste Israel.

He did evil in the eyes of the Lord, because he followed the ways of his father and mother and of Jeroboam son of Nebat, who caused Israel to sin.

El a făcut ce este rău înaintea Domnului şi a trăit ca tatăl său, ca mama sa şi ca Ieroboam, fiul lui Nebat, cel care l-a făcut pe Israel să păcătuiască.

He served and worshiped Baal and aroused the anger of the Lord, the God of Israel, just as his father had done.

El i-a slujit lui Baal^[f], i s-a închinat şi l-a provocat astfel la mânie pe Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel, aşa cum făcuse şi tatăl său.
