Genesis 22

Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!”

“Here I am,” he replied.

그 후에 하나님이 아브라함을 시험하시려고 “아브라함아” 하고 부르 시자 그는 “내가 여기 있습니다” 하고 대답하였다.

Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.”

그때 여호와께서 아브라함에게 말씀하셨다. “너는 사랑하는 네 외아들 이삭을 데리고 모리아 땅으로 가 내가 지시하는 산에서 그를 나에게 제물로 바쳐라.”

Early the next morning Abraham got up and loaded his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about.

그래서 아브라함은 다음날 아침 일찍 일어나 나귀에 안장을 지우고 제물을 태울 나무를 준비하여 두 종과 자기 아들 이삭을 데리고 하나님이 지시하신 곳을 향해 떠났다.

On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance.

3일째에 아브라함이 멀리서 그 곳을 바라보고

He said to his servants, “Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you.”

종들에게 말하였다. “너희는 나귀와 함께 여기 있거라. 내가 아들과 저기 가서 경배하고 오겠다.”

Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac, and he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them went on together,

그러고서 아브라함은 이삭에게 제물을 태울 나무를 가지고 가게 하고 자기는 불과 칼을 들고 갔는데 도중에

Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, “Father?”

“Yes, my son?” Abraham replied.

“The fire and wood are here,” Isaac said, “but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?”

이삭이 자기 아버지를 불렀다. “아버지!” “왜 그러느냐?” “불과 나무는 여기 있는데 제물로 바칠 어린 양은 어디 있습니까?”

Abraham answered, “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” And the two of them went on together.

“얘야, 제물로 바칠 어린 양은 하나님이 직접 준비하실 것이다.” 그들이 계속 걸어서

When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood.

하나님이 지시하신 곳에 이르렀을 때 아브라함은 그 곳에 단을 쌓고 나무를 벌여 놓은 다음 자기 아들 이삭을 묶어 단의 나무 위에 올려놓았다.

Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son.

그리고 그가 손을 내밀어 칼을 잡고 자기 아들을 치려고 하는 순간

But the angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!”

“Here I am,” he replied.

여호와의 천사가 하늘에서 “아브라함아, 아브라함아” 하고 불렀다. 아브라함이 “내가 여기 있습니다” 하고 대답하자

“Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.”

천사는 “그 아이에게 손을 대지 말아라. 그에게 아무 해도 입히지 말아라. 네가 하나밖에 없는 네 외아들까지 아끼지 않았으니 네가 하나님을 두려워하는 줄을 내가 이제야 알았다” 하고 말하였다.

Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram^[a] caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son.

아브라함이 주위를 살펴보니 뒤에 숫양 한 마리가 있는데 뿔이 수풀에 걸려 있었다. 그래서 아브라함은 그 숫양을 가져다가 아들 대신 제물로 바쳤다.

So Abraham called that place The Lord Will Provide. And to this day it is said, “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.”

아브라함이 그 곳 이름을 ^[a]‘여호와 – 이레’ 라고 불렀으므로 오늘날까지도 사람들이 ‘여호와의 산에서 준비될 것이다’ 라는 말을 하고 있다.

The angel of the Lord called to Abraham from heaven a second time

여호와의 천사가 하늘에서 다시 아브라함을 불러

and said, “I swear by myself, declares the Lord, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son,

여호와의 말씀을 전하였다. “내가 내 이름으로 맹세하지만 네가 이처럼 하나밖에 없는 네 아들까지 아끼지 않았으므로

I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies,

내가 너에게 한없는 복을 주어 네 후손을 하늘의 별과 바닷가의 모래알처럼 많게 하겠다. 네 후손들이 그 원수들을 정복할 것이다.

and through your offspring^[b] all nations on earth will be blessed,^[c] because you have obeyed me.”

그리고 네가 나에게 순종하였으므로 네 후손을 통해 세상의 모든 민족이 복을 받을 것이다.”

Then Abraham returned to his servants, and they set off together for Beersheba. And Abraham stayed in Beersheba.

Nahor’s Sons

그러고서 아브라함은 자기 종들에게 와서 그들과 함께 브엘세바로 돌아와 거기서 살았다.

나홀의 가족

Some time later Abraham was told, “Milkah is also a mother; she has borne sons to your brother Nahor:

얼마 후에 아브라함은 밀가가 자기 동생 나홀에게 여덟 명의 자녀를 낳아 준 소식을 듣게 되었다.

Uz the firstborn, Buz his brother, Kemuel (the father of Aram),

그들은 장남 우스와 그 동생 부스, 아람의 아버지인 그무엘,

Kesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph and Bethuel.”

게셋, 하소, 빌다스, 이들랍, 리브가의 아버지인 브두엘이었다.

Bethuel became the father of Rebekah. Milkah bore these eight sons to Abraham’s brother Nahor.

His concubine, whose name was Reumah, also had sons: Tebah, Gaham, Tahash and Maakah.

그리고 나홀의 첩인 르우마도 데바와 가함과 다하스와 마아가를 낳았다.
