Verse 1

This is the account of Shem, Ham and Japheth, Noah’s sons, who themselves had sons after the flood.

The Japhethites

노아의 아들인 셈과 함과 야벳의 자손들은 이렇다: 이들은 홍수 후에 여 러 아들을 낳았는데

Verse 2

The sons^[a] of Japheth:

Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshek and Tiras.

야벳의 아들은 고멜, 마곡, 마대, 야완, 두발, 메섹, 디라스,

Verse 3

The sons of Gomer:

Ashkenaz, Riphath and Togarmah.

고멜의 아들은 아스그나스, 리밧, 도갈마,

Verse 4

The sons of Javan:

Elishah, Tarshish, the Kittites and the Rodanites.^[b]

야완의 아들은 엘리사, 다시스, 깃딤, 도다님이었다.

Verse 5

(From these the maritime peoples spread out into their territories by their clans within their nations, each with its own language.)

The Hamites

이들 야벳의 자손들은 종족과 언어와 나라별로 섬과 해안 지역에 흩어져 살았으며 이들이 바로 해양 민족의 조상들이 되었다.

Verse 6

The sons of Ham:

Cush, Egypt, Put and Canaan.

함의 아들은 구스, 미스라임, 붓, 가나안이며

Verse 7

The sons of Cush:

Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah and Sabteka.

The sons of Raamah:

Sheba and Dedan.

구스의 아들은 스바, 하윌라, 삽다, 라아마, 삽드가이고 라아마의 아들은 스바와 드단이었다.

Verse 8

Cush was the father^[c] of Nimrod, who became a mighty warrior on the earth.

구스는 또 니므롯이라는 아들을 낳았는데 그는 세상에서 최초의 ^[a]정복자였다.

Verse 9

He was a mighty hunter before the Lord; that is why it is said, “Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the Lord.”

그는 ^[b]여호와를 무시하는 힘 센 사냥꾼이었으므로 “니므롯처럼 여호와를 무시하는 힘 센 사냥꾼” 이라는 유행어까지 생기게 되었다.

Verse 10

The first centers of his kingdom were Babylon, Uruk, Akkad and Kalneh, in^[d] Shinar.^[e]

처음에 그의 나라는 ^[c]시날 땅의 바벨, 에렉, 악갓, 갈레에서 시작되었다.

Verse 11

From that land he went to Assyria, where he built Nineveh, Rehoboth Ir,^[f] Calah

거기서 그는 앗시리아로 가서 니느웨, 르호봇 – 일, 갈라,

Verse 12

and Resen, which is between Nineveh and Calah—which is the great city.

그리고 니느웨와 갈라 사이의 큰 성 레센을 건설하였다.

Verse 13

Egypt was the father of

the Ludites, Anamites, Lehabites, Naphtuhites,

미스라임은 루딤, 아나밈, 르하빔, 납두힘,

Verse 14

Pathrusites, Kasluhites (from whom the Philistines came) and Caphtorites.

바드루심, 가슬루힘, 갑도림을 낳았으며 블레셋 사람들은 가슬루힘의 후손들이었다.

Verse 15

Canaan was the father of

Sidon his firstborn,^[g] and of the Hittites,

가나안은 장남 시돈과 헷을 낳았으며

Verse 16

Jebusites, Amorites, Girgashites,

그는 또 여부스족, 아모리족, 기르가스족,

Verse 17

Hivites, Arkites, Sinites,

히위족, 알가족, 신족,

Verse 18

Arvadites, Zemarites and Hamathites.

Later the Canaanite clans scattered

아르왓족, 스말족, 하맛족의 조상이 되었다. 그 후 가나안 자손들은 여러 부족으로 흩어져 살았는데

Verse 19

and the borders of Canaan reached from Sidon toward Gerar as far as Gaza, and then toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboyim, as far as Lasha.

그들의 경계선은 시돈에서부터 그랄을 지나 가사까지, 그리고 소돔, 고모라, 아드마, 스보임을 지나 라사까지였다.

Verse 20

These are the sons of Ham by their clans and languages, in their territories and nations.

The Semites

이들 함의 후손들은 종족과 언어와 지방과 나라별로 흩어져 살았다.

Verse 21

Sons were also born to Shem, whose older brother was^[h] Japheth; Shem was the ancestor of all the sons of Eber.

야벳의 형이었던 셈은 ^[d]히브리 사람의 조상이 되었다.

Verse 22

The sons of Shem:

Elam, Ashur, Arphaxad, Lud and Aram.

그의 아들은 엘람, 앗수르, 아르박삿, 룻, 아람이었으며

Verse 23

The sons of Aram:

Uz, Hul, Gether and Meshek.^[i]

아람의 아들은 우스, 훌, 게델, ^[e]메섹이었고

Verse 24

Arphaxad was the father of^[j] Shelah,

and Shelah the father of Eber.

아르박삿은 셀라를 낳았으며 셀라는 에벨을 낳았고

Verse 25

Two sons were born to Eber:

One was named Peleg,^[k] because in his time the earth was divided; his brother was named Joktan.

에벨은 두 아들을 낳아 그 중 하나의 이름을 ^[f]벨렉이라 하였다. 이것은 그 당시에 세상 사람들이 나누어졌기 때문이었다. 그리고 벨렉의 동생은 욕단이었다.

Verse 26

Joktan was the father of

Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,

욕단은 알모닷, 셀렙, 하살마, 예라,

Verse 27

Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,

하도람, 우살, 디글라,

Verse 28

Obal, Abimael, Sheba,

^[g]오발, 아비마엘, 스바,

Verse 29

Ophir, Havilah and Jobab. All these were sons of Joktan.

오빌, 하윌라, 요밥을 낳았다.

Verse 30

The region where they lived stretched from Mesha toward Sephar, in the eastern hill country.

이들이 사는 땅은 메사에서부터 동쪽 산간 지역 스발까지였다.

Verse 31

These are the sons of Shem by their clans and languages, in their territories and nations.

이들 셈의 후손들은 종족과 언어와 지방과 나라별로 흩어져 살았다.

Verse 32

These are the clans of Noah’s sons, according to their lines of descent, within their nations. From these the nations spread out over the earth after the flood.

이상의 모든 사람들은 다 노아의 후손들이며 이들은 홍수 후에 여러 나라와 민족으로 나누어졌다.
