Revelation 16

Then I heard a loud voice from the temple saying to the seven angels, “Go, pour out the seven bowls of God’s wrath on the earth.”

また私は、神殿から大きな声が七人の天使に呼びかけるのを聞きました。「さあ、出かけて行って、神の怒りで満ちた七つの鉢を、地上にぶちまけなさい。」

The first angel went and poured out his bowl on the land, and ugly, festering sores broke out on the people who had the mark of the beast and worshiped its image.

そこで、第一の天使が神殿から出て行き、鉢を地上にぶちまけました。すると、獣の刻印をして、その像を拝む者全員に、恐ろしい悪性のはれものができました。

The second angel poured out his bowl on the sea, and it turned into blood like that of a dead person, and every living thing in the sea died.

第二の天使が鉢を海にぶちまけると、海の水は死者の血のようになり、海の中のすべての生き物が死に絶えました。

The third angel poured out his bowl on the rivers and springs of water, and they became blood.

第三の天使は、鉢を川と泉にぶちまけました。すると、水はたちまち血に変わりました。

Then I heard the angel in charge of the waters say:

あなたのきよい民や預言者は殉教を遂げ、この地上に血を流しました。今度はあなたが、彼らを殺した者たちの血をしたたらせる番です。これは当然の報いなのです。」

And I heard the altar respond:

また私は、祭壇の天使の声を聞きました。「全能の神、主よ。あなたのさばきは正しく、真実です。」

The fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and the sun was allowed to scorch people with fire.

次に、第四の天使が鉢を太陽にぶちまけました。すると太陽は、すべての人を火で焼く力を得ました。

They were seared by the intense heat and they cursed the name of God, who had control over these plagues, but they refused to repent and glorify him.

人々は、その激しい炎熱に焼かれながらも、なおその心や態度を改めて、神の栄光を恐れようとはせず、かえって、災害をも支配される神の御名をのろいました。

The fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and its kingdom was plunged into darkness. People gnawed their tongues in agony

それから、第五の天使は、鉢を海から現れた獣の王座にぶちまけました。すると獣の国は暗闇でおおわれ、その民は苦しさのあまり、舌をかみ切って自殺をはかりました。

and cursed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, but they refused to repent of what they had done.

彼らは、苦痛とはれもののために天の神をのろいましたが、自分の悪い行いを悔い改めようとはしませんでした。

The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up to prepare the way for the kings from the East.

第六の天使は、鉢を大ユーフラテス川にぶちまけました。すると、川の水がすっかり干上がり、東方の王がいつでも軍隊を率いて西方に攻め入ることができる道ができました。

Then I saw three impure spirits that looked like frogs; they came out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet.

また私は、竜と獣と偽預言者の口から、かえるに似た三つの悪霊が飛び出すのを見ました。

They are demonic spirits that perform signs, and they go out to the kings of the whole world, to gather them for the battle on the great day of God Almighty.

「用心していなさい。わたしは盗人のように、思いがけない時に来ます。目を覚まして待っている人は幸いです。そのような人は、着物をきちんと着ているので、裸で外を歩くような恥はかきません。」

Then they gathered the kings together to the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon.

こうして彼らは、ヘブル語でハルマゲドンと呼ばれる場所の近くに、世界の全軍隊を結集させました。

The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and out of the temple came a loud voice from the throne, saying, “It is done!”

次に、第七の天使が、鉢を空中にぶちまけました。すると、「すべてが終わった」という大きな声が、天の神殿の王座から響き渡りました。

Then there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder and a severe earthquake. No earthquake like it has ever occurred since mankind has been on earth, so tremendous was the quake.

雷鳴がとどろき、いなずまが走り、史上最大の大地震が発生しました。

The great city split into three parts, and the cities of the nations collapsed. God remembered Babylon the Great and gave her the cup filled with the wine of the fury of his wrath.

大いなる都バビロンは三つに裂け、世界各地の都市もすべて破壊されて、瓦礫の山と化しました。神はバビロンの罪をすべてご存じであり、そのためにバビロンは、神の激しい怒りのぶどう酒であふれる杯を、最後の一滴まで飲み干す罰を受けたのです。

Every island fled away and the mountains could not be found.

島々は消え去り、山々は平地に変わりました。

From the sky huge hailstones, each weighing about a hundred pounds,^[a] fell on people. And they cursed God on account of the plague of hail, because the plague was so terrible.

また、一つが三十五キロもの重さの雹が降り、多くの被害が出て、人々はこの恐ろしい雹のことで神をのろいました。
