These were the priests and Levites who returned with Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and with Joshua:

Verse 8
The Levites were Jeshua, Binnui, Kadmiel, Sherebiah, Judah, and also Mattaniah, who, together with his associates, was in charge of the songs of thanksgiving.

Bakbukiah and Unni, their associates, stood opposite them in the services.

Verse 22
The family heads of the Levites in the days of Eliashib, Joiada, Johanan and Jaddua, as well as those of the priests, were recorded in the reign of Darius the Persian.
祭司やレビ人の氏族長の系図は、ペルシヤ王ダリヨスの時代に作成され、当時、レビ人のエルヤシブ、エホヤダ、ヨハナン、ヤドアが、一族の指導者の地位にありました。
Verse 23
The family heads among the descendants of Levi up to the time of Johanan son of Eliashib were recorded in the book of the annals.
『年代記』には、エルヤシブの子ヨハナンの時代までのレビ人の名が記されています。
Verse 24
And the leaders of the Levites were Hashabiah, Sherebiah, Jeshua son of Kadmiel, and their associates, who stood opposite them to give praise and thanksgiving, one section responding to the other, as prescribed by David the man of God.
その時代のレビ人の長は、ハシャブヤ、シェレベヤ、カデミエルの息子ヨシュアでした。同族の人々は、神の人ダビデの命令に従って彼らを守り立て、賛美と感謝の礼典を守っていたのでした。
Verse 25
Mattaniah, Bakbukiah, Obadiah, Meshullam, Talmon and Akkub were gatekeepers who guarded the storerooms at the gates.
門の倉庫の責任をゆだねられた門衛は、マタヌヤ、バクブクヤ、オバデヤ、メシュラム、タルモン、アクブでした。
Verse 26
They served in the days of Joiakim son of Joshua, the son of Jozadak, and in the days of Nehemiah the governor and of Ezra the priest, the teacher of the Law.
Dedication of the Wall of Jerusalem
この人たちは、エホツァダクの孫でヨシュアの子のエホヤキムの時代と、私ネヘミヤが総督で、エズラが祭司および宗教教師だった時代に活躍したのです。
城壁の奉献
Verse 27
At the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem, the Levites were sought out from where they lived and were brought to Jerusalem to celebrate joyfully the dedication with songs of thanksgiving and with the music of cymbals, harps and lyres.
エルサレムの新しい城壁の奉献式の時には国中のレビ人がエルサレムに集まり、それぞれ感謝の歌を歌い、シンバルや十弦の琴や竪琴を鳴らして、喜ばしい式典を盛り上げました。
Verse 28
The musicians also were brought together from the region around Jerusalem—from the villages of the Netophathites,
聖歌隊員も、周辺の村々やネトファ人の村からエルサレムに集まりました。
Verse 29
from Beth Gilgal, and from the area of Geba and Azmaveth, for the musicians had built villages for themselves around Jerusalem.
エルサレム郊外に村を建てていた聖歌隊員も、ベテ・ギルガル、ゲバ、アズマベテなどから集まりました。
Verse 30
When the priests and Levites had purified themselves ceremonially, they purified the people, the gates and the wall.
祭司とレビ人は、まず自分自身をきよめ、次に、人々、門、城壁をきよめました。
Verse 31
I had the leaders of Judah go up on top of[e] the wall. I also assigned two large choirs to give thanks. One was to proceed on top of[f] the wall to the right, toward the Dung Gate.
私はユダの指導者たちを城壁に上らせ、二組に分け、城壁の上をそれぞれ反対方向へと巡らせ、感謝の歌を歌わせました。右側、糞の門の方へ進んだ半数の組には、

ラッパを吹き鳴らしたのは、祭司ゼカリヤでした。ゼカリヤの父はヨナタンで、順次シェマヤ、マタヌヤ、ミカヤ、ザクル、アサフとさかのぼります。このほか、シェマヤ、アザルエル、ミラライ、ギラライ、マアイ、ネタヌエル、ユダ、ハナニも、ラッパを吹きました。使った楽器はダビデ王の楽器のものでした。行進の先頭には、祭司エズラが立ちました。
Verse 36
and his associates—Shemaiah, Azarel, Milalai, Gilalai, Maai, Nethanel, Judah and Hanani—with musical instruments prescribed by David the man of God. Ezra the teacher of the Law led the procession.

Verse 37
At the Fountain Gate they continued directly up the steps of the City of David on the ascent to the wall and passed above the site of David’s palace to the Water Gate on the east.
泉の門まで来た一行はまっすぐ進んで、城のかたわらのダビデの町に通じる階段を上りました。そして、東の水の門へと進んだのです。
Verse 38
The second choir proceeded in the opposite direction. I followed them on top of[g] the wall, together with half the people—past the Tower of the Ovens to the Broad Wall,
私の加わったもう一組は、逆方向を巡って、相手の組と出会うことになっていました。炉のやぐらから、広い城壁へ、
Verse 39
over the Gate of Ephraim, the Jeshanah[h] Gate, the Fish Gate, the Tower of Hananel and the Tower of the Hundred, as far as the Sheep Gate. At the Gate of the Guard they stopped.
続いて、エフライムの門から古い門に進み、魚の門とハナヌエルのやぐらを通ってメアのやぐらへと巡りました。そして羊の門へ行き、監視の門で止まったのです。
Verse 40
The two choirs that gave thanks then took their places in the house of God; so did I, together with half the officials,

また聖歌隊員では、次の人々も加わりました。マアセヤ、シェマヤ、エルアザル、ウジ、ヨハナン、マルキヤ、エラム、エゼル。この人たちは、イゼラフヤの指揮で、高らかに澄んだ歌声を響かせました。
Verse 43
And on that day they offered great sacrifices, rejoicing because God had given them great joy. The women and children also rejoiced. The sound of rejoicing in Jerusalem could be heard far away.
この喜ばしい日を記念して、多くのいけにえがささげられました。神への感謝の思いでいっぱいだったからです。女性も子どもも大声で喜びを表したので、エルサレムの人々の歓声は、遠くまでとどろきました。
Verse 44
At that time men were appointed to be in charge of the storerooms for the contributions, firstfruits and tithes. From the fields around the towns they were to bring into the storerooms the portions required by the Law for the priests and the Levites, for Judah was pleased with the ministering priests and Levites.
その日、財宝、奉納物、十分の一税、初物などのささげ物の管理責任者が任命され、モーセの律法に従って集めることになりました。これらのささげ物は、祭司とレビ人に割り当てられました。ユダの人々は祭司やレビ人に対し、また、その職務に対して、感謝の気持ちを抱いていたからです。
Verse 45
They performed the service of their God and the service of purification, as did also the musicians and gatekeepers, according to the commands of David and his son Solomon.
民はまた、聖歌隊員や門衛の働きにも感謝していました。彼らが、ダビデとその息子ソロモンが定めた礼拝やきよめの儀式の際、祭司やレビ人の補佐役を務めたからです。
Verse 46
For long ago, in the days of David and Asaph, there had been directors for the musicians and for the songs of praise and thanksgiving to God.
神をたたえ感謝する歌を、指揮者をつけて聖歌隊に歌わせるという習慣は、ダビデとアサフの時代に始まりました。
Verse 47
So in the days of Zerubbabel and of Nehemiah, all Israel contributed the daily portions for the musicians and the gatekeepers. They also set aside the portion for the other Levites, and the Levites set aside the portion for the descendants of Aaron.
このゼルバベルとネヘミヤの時代にも、人々は聖歌隊員や門衛やレビ人のために、日ごとの食糧を持って来ることになったのです。レビ人は、受けた分の一部を祭司に渡しました。
