Luke 17

Jesus said to his disciples: “Things that cause people to stumble are bound to come, but woe to anyone through whom they come.

ある日のこと、イエスは弟子たちにお話しになりました。「罪を犯させようとする誘惑は、いつもあなたがたにつきまとっています。誘惑する者はいまわしいものです。

It would be better for them to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around their neck than to cause one of these little ones to stumble.

これら小さい者の心につまずきを与える者は、首に大きな石をくくりつけられて、海に投げ込まれるほうがましです。

So watch yourselves.

“If your brother or sister^[a] sins against you, rebuke them; and if they repent, forgive them.

いいですか。友達が罪を犯したら、注意してあげなさい。そして悔い改めたら、赦してあげなさい。

Even if they sin against you seven times in a day and seven times come back to you saying ‘I repent,’ you must forgive them.”

あなたに対して日に七度罪を犯しても、そのたびに『悪かった。赦してくれ』とあやまるなら、赦してあげなさい。」

からし種ほどの信仰

The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!”

ある日、使徒たちが主に、「もっと信仰が強くなりたいのですが、どうしたらいいでしょう」と尋ねました。

He replied, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it will obey you.

イエスの答えはこうでした。「ほら、あそこに桑の木があるでしょう。ほんの小さな、からし種ほどの信仰でもあれば、あの木を根こそぎ海の中へ投げ込むことぐらい簡単なことです。そう命令しさえすれば、たちまちそのとおりになります。

“Suppose one of you has a servant plowing or looking after the sheep. Will he say to the servant when he comes in from the field, ‘Come along now and sit down to eat’?

ところで、畑を耕すか、羊の番をするかして一日中働いた奴隷が、帰って来るなりどっかと腰をおろし、食事を始めるなどということがあるでしょうか。まず主人の食事のしたくをし、給仕をすませ、それから自分の食事をするのが普通です。しかも、そうしたからといって取り立てて感謝されるわけでもありません。当然のことをしただけです。

Won’t he rather say, ‘Prepare my supper, get yourself ready and wait on me while I eat and drink; after that you may eat and drink’?

Will he thank the servant because he did what he was told to do?

So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.’”

Jesus Heals Ten Men With Leprosy

あなたがたがわたしに従って来るのも同じことです。『私たちはただ、するべきことを果たしているにすぎないのです』と言いなさい。」

Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee.

一行はエルサレムを目指して進み、途中サマリヤとガリラヤの境を通りました。

As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy^[b] met him. They stood at a distance

ある村に入ると、十人のツァラアトの人がずっと向こうのほうから、

and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!”

「イエス様！　どうぞお助けを！」と大声で叫んでいました。

When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed.

イエスはそちらに目をやり、「さあ、祭司のところへ行き、ツァラアトが治ったことを見せてきなさい」と言われました。彼らがそのとおり出かけて行くと、途中でツァラアトはきれいに治りました。

One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice.

その中の一人が、イエスのところに引き返し、足もとにひれ伏して、「ありがとうございます。おっしゃるとおり、すっかりよくなりました。神様に栄光がありますように」と言いました。実はこの人は、ユダヤ人から軽蔑されていたサマリヤ人でした。

He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan.

Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine?

「はて、十人全部がいやされたはずだが、ほかの九人はどうしたのですか。

Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?”

神を賛美するために帰って来たのは、この外国人のほかにはいないのですか。」

Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”

The Coming of the Kingdom of God

こう言ってから、イエスはその男に、「さあ、立って帰りなさい。あなたの信仰があなたを治したのです」と言われました。

準備をして待て

Once, on being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The coming of the kingdom of God is not something that can be observed,

ある日、パリサイ人たちがイエスに尋ねました。「神の国はいったい、いつ来るのですか。」イエスは答えて言われました。「神の国は、目に見える形では来ません。

nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is in your midst.”^[c]

『ここに来た』とか、『あそこに来た』とか言えるものではないのです。はっきり言いましょう。神の国は、あなたがたの中にあるのです。」

Then he said to his disciples, “The time is coming when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, but you will not see it.

そのあとで、イエスは神の国についてもう一度、弟子たちにお話しになりました。「まもなく、一日でいいから、わたしといっしょにいたいと願っても、もういっしょにいられない日が来ます。

People will tell you, ‘There he is!’ or ‘Here he is!’ Do not go running off after them.

その時にはまた、『主が帰って来られた。ここにおられるぞ』とか、『いや、あそこだ』というふうに、情報が乱れ飛ぶでしょう。そんなうわさを信じたり、彼らの扇動に乗ってあとを追いかけたりしてはいけません。

For the Son of Man in his day^[d] will be like the lightning, which flashes and lights up the sky from one end to the other.

わたしが帰って来る時には、はっきりわかるからです。ちょうど、いなずまが空の端から端までひらめき渡るように、一目瞭然なのです。

But first he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.

しかしその前に、わたしはひどい苦しみを受け、この国の人々全部から、つまはじきにされなければなりません。

“Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man.

わたしが帰って来る時、人々は、かつてのノアの時代のように、神のことなどにはまるで無関心でしょう。

People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all.

ノアが箱舟に入り、洪水が押し寄せ、何もかも滅ぼし尽くすまで、人々は飲んだり、食べたり、結婚したり、いつもと変わらない生活をしていました（創世6章）。

“It was the same in the days of Lot. People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building.

また、ロトの時代の人々とも比べることができるでしょう。当時も、人々はいつもと同じように、食べたり飲んだり、売ったり買ったり、植えたり建てたりの生活をしていましたが、

But the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all.

ロトがソドムの町を抜け出した日に、火と硫黄が天から降り注ぎ、一人残らず滅ぼされてしまったのです（創世19章）。

“It will be just like this on the day the Son of Man is revealed.

わたしが再び来る時も同じです。その瞬間まで、すべてがいつものとおりなのです。

On that day no one who is on the housetop, with possessions inside, should go down to get them. Likewise, no one in the field should go back for anything.

その日、外出中の者は、荷物を取りに家へ戻ってはいけません。畑で働いている者も、家に帰ってはいけません。

Remember Lot’s wife!

ロトの妻がどんな目に会ったか、思い出しなさい。

Whoever tries to keep their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life will preserve it.

だれでも、いのちにしがみつく者はそれを失い、いのちを捨てる者がかえってそれを自分のものにできるのです。

I tell you, on that night two people will be in one bed; one will be taken and the other left.

よく言っておきます。その夜二人の男が一つの部屋に寝ていると、一人は天に上げられ、一人は残されます。

Two women will be grinding grain together; one will be taken and the other left.” ^[36] [e]

家事をしている二人の女のうち、一人は天に上げられ、一人は残されます。また、畑でいっしょに働いている二人の男も同様です。」

“Where, Lord?” they asked.

He replied, “Where there is a dead body, there the vultures will gather.”

「主よ。どこでそんなことが起こるのですか。」「死体のあるところに、はげたかも集まるのです。」
