Verse 1
This is the account of Shem, Ham and Japheth, Noah’s sons, who themselves had sons after the flood.
The Japhethites
ノアの三人の息子セム、ハム、ヤペテの家系は次のとおりです。以下は、洪水のあと三人に生まれた子どもたちです。
Verse 2
ヤペテの子孫はゴメル、マゴグ、マダイ、ヤワン、トバル、メシェク、ティラス。
Verse 3
The sons of Gomer:
Ashkenaz, Riphath and Togarmah.
ゴメルの子孫はアシュケナズ、リファテ、トガルマ。
Verse 4
The sons of Javan:
Elishah, Tarshish, the Kittites and the Rodanites.[b]
ヤワンの子孫はエリシャ、タルシシュ、キティム、ドダニム。
Verse 5
(From these the maritime peoples spread out into their territories by their clans within their nations, each with its own language.)
The Hamites
この人たちの子孫は各地に散らばり、海に沿ってそれぞれの言語を持つ国々をつくりました。
Verse 6
The sons of Ham:
Cush, Egypt, Put and Canaan.
ハムの子孫はクシュ、ミツライム、プテ、カナン。
Verse 7
The sons of Cush:
Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah and Sabteka.
The sons of Raamah:
Sheba and Dedan.
クシュの子孫はセバ、ハビラ、サブタ、ラマ、サブテカ。
ラマの子孫はシェバ、デダン。
Verse 8
Cush was the father[c] of Nimrod, who became a mighty warrior on the earth.
クシュの子孫の一人に、ニムロデという人がいました。地上で最初の王になった人です。
Verse 9
He was a mighty hunter before the Lord; that is why it is said, “Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the Lord.”
彼は神に祝福された力ある狩猟家で、その名が知れ渡っていました。「神に祝福された力ある狩猟家ニムロデのような人」という称賛のことばもあったほどです。
Verse 10
彼は帝国をシヌアルの地に建て、バベル、エレク、アカデ、カルネなどを中心に栄えました。
Verse 11
From that land he went to Assyria, where he built Nineveh, Rehoboth Ir,[f] Calah
領土はやがてアッシリヤまで広がりました。ニネベ、レホボテ・イル、ケラフ、ニネベとケラフの間にあるレセンなどは、みな彼が建てた大きな町です。特にレセンは、王国の中でも重要な町でした。

and Resen, which is between Nineveh and Calah—which is the great city.

Egypt was the father of
the Ludites, Anamites, Lehabites, Naphtuhites,
ミツライムは、次の地域に住みついた人たちの先祖となりました。ルデ、アナミム、レハビム、ナフトヒム、パテロス、ペリシテ人が出たカスルヒム、カフトル。

Pathrusites, Kasluhites (from whom the Philistines came) and Caphtorites.

Verse 15
Canaan was the father of
Sidon his firstborn,[g] and of the Hittites,
カナンの長男はシドンで、ヘテも彼の子です。カナンの子孫から次の氏族が分かれ出ました。エブス人、エモリ人、ギルガシ人、ヒビ人、アルキ人、シニ人、アルワデ人、ツェマリ人、ハマテ人。カナンの子孫はやがて、シドンからガザ地区のゲラルに至る一帯に進出し、さらにソドム、ゴモラ、アデマ、ツェボイム、そしてレシャの近くまで広がりました。

and the borders of Canaan reached from Sidon toward Gerar as far as Gaza, and then toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboyim, as far as Lasha.

Verse 20
These are the sons of Ham by their clans and languages, in their territories and nations.
The Semites
以上がハムの子孫で、たくさんの国や地方に散らばり、多くの国語を話すようになりました。
Verse 21
Sons were also born to Shem, whose older brother was[h] Japheth; Shem was the ancestor of all the sons of Eber.
ヤペテの兄セムはエベルのすべての子孫の父祖となりました。
Verse 22
The sons of Shem:
Elam, Ashur, Arphaxad, Lud and Aram.
セムの子孫は次のとおりです。エラム、アシュル、アルパクシャデ、ルデ、アラム。
Verse 24
アルパクシャデの息子はシェラフで、シェラフの息子がエベルです。
Verse 25
Two sons were born to Eber:
One was named Peleg,[k] because in his time the earth was divided; his brother was named Joktan.
エベルには二人の息子が生まれました。ペレグ〔「分裂」の意〕とヨクタンです。ペレグという名の由来は、彼の時代に世界が分裂し、人々が散らされたからです。
Verse 26
Joktan was the father of
Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,
ヨクタンの子孫はアルモダデ、シェレフ、ハツァルマベテ、エラフ、ハドラム、ウザル、ディクラ、オバル、アビマエル、シェバ、オフィル、ハビラ、ヨバブ。ヨクタンの子孫はみな、メシャからセファルに至る東部の丘陵地帯に住みつきました。

These are the sons of Shem by their clans and languages, in their territories and nations.
以上がセムの子孫です。それぞれを政治区分、国語、地理的な位置などによって分けると、このようになります。
Verse 32
These are the clans of Noah’s sons, according to their lines of descent, within their nations. From these the nations spread out over the earth after the flood.
これらの人々はみなノアの子孫の家系で、洪水のあと何世代にもわたって、彼らからいろいろな国が興ってきたのです。
