Verse 1

In the ninth year, in the tenth month on the tenth day, the word of the Lord came to me:

エホヤキン王が捕囚となって九年目の第十の月の十日、私に次のような主のことばがありました。

Verse 2

“Son of man, record this date, this very date, because the king of Babylon has laid siege to Jerusalem this very day.

「人の子よ、今日の日付を書き留めよ。今日、バビロンの王がエルサレムに攻撃をしかけたからだ。

Verse 3

Tell this rebellious people a parable and say to them: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says:

“‘Put on the cooking pot; put it on
and pour water into it.

さあ、反逆者であるイスラエルに、このたとえを語りなさい。

神である主がこう命じる。
なべに水を入れ、火にかけて沸騰させなさい。

Verse 4

Put into it the pieces of meat,
all the choice pieces—the leg and the shoulder.
Fill it with the best of these bones;

そこに最上の羊の肉、ももや肩などの
柔らかい肉をたくさん入れなさい。

Verse 5

    take the pick of the flock.
Pile wood beneath it for the bones;
    bring it to a boil
    and cook the bones in it.

群れの最良の羊だけを使うのだ。
火にはどんどん薪をくべ、
肉が骨から離れるまでよく煮なさい。」

Verse 6

“‘For this is what the Sovereign Lord says:

“‘Woe to the city of bloodshed,
    to the pot now encrusted,
    whose deposit will not go away!
Take the meat out piece by piece
    in whatever order it comes.

神である主はこう語ります。
「ああ、流血の町、エルサレムはのろわれよ。
おまえは、さびと傷とで穴だらけになった
なべのようだ。
その中から一切れ一切れ、肉を取り出せ。
どれが良いということはなく、みな同じだからだ。

Verse 7

“‘For the blood she shed is in her midst:
She poured it on the bare rock;
she did not pour it on the ground,
where the dust would cover it.

エルサレムの醜悪さは周知のことだ。
平気で人を殺し、その血が岩にたれて、
人目にさらされても、隠そうともしない。

Verse 8

To stir up wrath and take revenge
I put her blood on the bare rock,
so that it would not be covered.

だから、わたしもそのままにして、
その血がエルサレムの犯行を訴えるにまかせた。
わたしの怒りと憤りはいやがうえにも募った。

Verse 9

“‘Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says:

“‘Woe to the city of bloodshed!
I, too, will pile the wood high.

流血の町、エルサレムはのろわれよ。
わたしはその下に薪を積み上げる。

Verse 10

So heap on the wood
    and kindle the fire.
Cook the meat well,
    mixing in the spices;
    and let the bones be charred.

さあ、薪をくべ、どんどん火を燃やせ。
なべを煮えたぎらせるのだ。
肉をよく煮てから、なべを空にし、骨を燃やすのだ。

Verse 11

Then set the empty pot on the coals
till it becomes hot and its copper glows,
so that its impurities may be melted
and its deposit burned away.

空のなべを炭火にかけ、
そのさびや汚れを焼き落とせ。

Verse 12

It has frustrated all efforts;
its heavy deposit has not been removed,
not even by fire.

だが、すべては骨折り損だ。火をどんなに強くしても、さびや汚れは落ちずに残るからだ。

Verse 13

“‘Now your impurity is lewdness. Because I tried to cleanse you but you would not be cleansed from your impurity, you will not be clean again until my wrath against you has subsided.

そのさびと汚れとは、偶像を礼拝してやまない、みだらな行為のことだ。わたしはあなたをきよめようとしたが、あなたが拒んだので憤りを燃え上がらせ、恐ろしい目に会わせる。それまで汚れたままでいるがいい。

Verse 14

“‘I the Lord have spoken. The time has come for me to act. I will not hold back; I will not have pity, nor will I relent. You will be judged according to your conduct and your actions, declares the Sovereign Lord.’”

Ezekiel’s Wife Dies

主であるわたしが、これを語ったのだ。このことは必ず起こる。わたしがそうするからだ。」

Verse 15

The word of the Lord came to me:

また、私に次のような主のことばがありました。

Verse 16

“Son of man, with one blow I am about to take away from you the delight of your eyes. Yet do not lament or weep or shed any tears.

「人の子よ。わたしはあなたの愛する妻を取り去る。彼女は急死する。しかし、悲しんではならない。決して泣いてはならない。涙を流してはならない。

Verse 17

Groan quietly; do not mourn for the dead. Keep your turban fastened and your sandals on your feet; do not cover your mustache and beard or eat the customary food of mourners.”

ため息はついても、声を立ててはいけない。彼女の墓で、声を上げて泣いてはいけない。頭にターバンを巻き、足に靴をはきなさい。慰めにと、友人が持って来る食べ物を受け取ってはいけない。」

Verse 18

So I spoke to the people in the morning, and in the evening my wife died. The next morning I did as I had been commanded.

その朝、私はこのことを人々に語りました。その晩、妻が死にました。翌朝、私は主が語ったとおりにしました。

Verse 19

Then the people asked me, “Won’t you tell us what these things have to do with us? Why are you acting like this?”

すると人々は、「なぜ、そんなふうにするのですか。わけを教えてください」と尋ねてきました。

Verse 20

So I said to them, “The word of the Lord came to me:

そこで私は答えました。「主が私に、イスラエルの民にこう言え、と語ったのです。『わたしは、あなたがたが国の力と頼み、わたしが愛してやまない美しい神殿を破壊しよう。そして、ユダヤにいるあなたがたの息子や娘を剣で殺そう。』

Verse 21

Say to the people of Israel, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am about to desecrate my sanctuary—the stronghold in which you take pride, the delight of your eyes, the object of your affection. The sons and daughters you left behind will fall by the sword.

Verse 22

And you will do as I have done. You will not cover your mustache and beard or eat the customary food of mourners.

その時あなたがたは、私がしたのと同じことをするようになります。つまり、人前で嘆き悲しむことも、同情して友人が持って来てくれた食べ物を食べることもできなくなるのです。

Verse 23

You will keep your turbans on your heads and your sandals on your feet. You will not mourn or weep but will waste away because of^[a] your sins and groan among yourselves.

喪中だというのに、頭にはターバンを巻き、足に靴をはき、嘆くことも泣くこともしません。互いの罪を嘆き合い、自分たちが犯した多くの悪を悲しむのです。

Verse 24

Ezekiel will be a sign to you; you will do just as he has done. When this happens, you will know that I am the Sovereign Lord.’

主が言われるとおり、私は手本を示したのです。『エゼキエルがしたとおりに、あなたがたもするようになる。その時がきたら、あなたがたはわたしが神であることを知るようになる。

Verse 25

“And you, son of man, on the day I take away their stronghold, their joy and glory, the delight of their eyes, their heart’s desire, and their sons and daughters as well—

人の子よ。わたしがエルサレムの住民から、心の喜びであり誇りでもある妻や、息子や、娘を取り去る日に、

Verse 26

on that day a fugitive will come to tell you the news.

エルサレムから命からがら逃れた者が、バビロンにいるあなたに、その出来事を知らせるために向かう。

Verse 27

At that time your mouth will be opened; you will speak with him and will no longer be silent. So you will be a sign to them, and they will know that I am the Lord.”

その者が到着したら、さっそく話をするがいい。あなたはこの人々のためのしるしとなるのだ。その時、彼らはわたしが神であることを知る。』」
