Ezekiel 12

The word of the Lord came to me:

ついで、主から私に、このようなことばがありました。

“Son of man, you are living among a rebellious people. They have eyes to see but do not see and ears to hear but do not hear, for they are a rebellious people.

「人の子よ、あなたは反逆者たちの中に住んでいる。彼らは真理を知ろうとするなら知ることができるのに、知ろうともしない。また、聞こうとするなら聞けるのに、聞こうともしない。

“Therefore, son of man, pack your belongings for exile and in the daytime, as they watch, set out and go from where you are to another place. Perhaps they will understand, though they are a rebellious people.

彼らは反逆者なのだ。だから、捕囚になることがどんなものか教えるために、実演して見せるがいい。背中にかつげるだけの荷物をかついで、家を出なさい。昼のうちに、みんなが見ている前でそうするのだ。どんな反逆者も、それを見て、その意味することを考えるかもしれない。

During the daytime, while they watch, bring out your belongings packed for exile. Then in the evening, while they are watching, go out like those who go into exile.

昼のうちに、みんなが見守る中で、荷物を家の外へ運び出しなさい。それから、遠くの地へ長い旅をする捕囚の民のように、夕方、家をあとにして出かけなさい。

While they watch, dig through the wall and take your belongings out through it.

町の人々が見ている前で壁に穴をあけ、そこから荷物を運び出すのだ。

Put them on your shoulder as they are watching and carry them out at dusk. Cover your face so that you cannot see the land, for I have made you a sign to the Israelites.”

また、みんなが見守る中で、荷物をかついで夜の暗闇の中を出て行け。顔を覆い、回りを見てはならない。これはみな、イスラエルの民に与える、エルサレムに降りかかる災いのしるしだ。」

So I did as I was commanded. During the day I brought out my things packed for exile. Then in the evening I dug through the wall with my hands. I took my belongings out at dusk, carrying them on my shoulders while they watched.

私は命じられたとおりにしました。昼のうちに、捕囚に持って行けるだけの荷物を外へ運び出しました。夕方になると、手で壁に穴をあけ、みんなが見ている前で、荷物をかついで暗闇の中を出て行ったのです。

In the morning the word of the Lord came to me:

翌朝、主からことばがありました。

“Son of man, did not the Israelites, that rebellious people, ask you, ‘What are you doing?’

「人の子よ。反逆者であるイスラエルの民は、『いったい、これは何の意味なのか』と尋ねている。

“Say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: This prophecy concerns the prince in Jerusalem and all the Israelites who are there.’

だから説明してやりなさい。『これは、エルサレムのゼデキヤ王とイスラエルの民全体への、神である主の宣告だ』と。

Say to them, ‘I am a sign to you.’

“As I have done, so it will be done to them. They will go into exile as captives.

これまで実演して見せたことは、これから起こることなのだ、と教えてやるのだ。彼らは家から連れ出され、捕囚の地へ送られる。

“The prince among them will put his things on his shoulder at dusk and leave, and a hole will be dug in the wall for him to go through. He will cover his face so that he cannot see the land.

ゼデキヤ王さえ、自分で持てる物だけ持って、何も見えないように顔を覆い、壁にあけた穴から、闇にまぎれて出て行くのだ。

I will spread my net for him, and he will be caught in my snare; I will bring him to Babylonia, the land of the Chaldeans, but he will not see it, and there he will die.

わたしは網で王を捕らえ、カルデヤ人の地、バビロンへ連れて行く。だが王は、その地を自分の目で見ることなく、そこで死ぬ。

I will scatter to the winds all those around him—his staff and all his troops—and I will pursue them with drawn sword.

わたしは、王に仕える者や、兵士たちを四方に風のように追い散らし、剣をそのあとから送る。

“They will know that I am the Lord, when I disperse them among the nations and scatter them through the countries.

このように諸国に散らされて初めて、彼らはわたしが主であることを知る。

But I will spare a few of them from the sword, famine and plague, so that in the nations where they go they may acknowledge all their detestable practices. Then they will know that I am the Lord.”

わたしはまた、わずかな者たちを戦争とききんと疫病から免れさせよう。免れた者たちは、自分がどんなに悪いことをしてきたかを、国々の前で告白するだろう。こうして彼らも、わたしが主であることを知る。」

The word of the Lord came to me:

さらにまた、主からのことばがありました。

“Son of man, tremble as you eat your food, and shudder in fear as you drink your water.

「人の子よ、震えながら食事をしなさい。水も、これで最後であるかのように制限して飲みなさい。

Say to the people of the land: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says about those living in Jerusalem and in the land of Israel: They will eat their food in anxiety and drink their water in despair, for their land will be stripped of everything in it because of the violence of all who live there.

そして、こう警告するのだ。『神、主は言います。イスラエルとエルサレムの住民は、そのあらゆる罪のゆえに、食糧を最大限に節約し、水も絶望感にさいなまれながら少量ずつ飲むようになる。

The inhabited towns will be laid waste and the land will be desolate. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’”

There Will Be No Delay

町々は滅ぼされ、耕作地は荒れはてる。その時、あなたがたは、わたしが主であることを知る。』」

遅くなることはない

The word of the Lord came to me:

続いて、主は語りました。

“Son of man, what is this proverb you have in the land of Israel: ‘The days go by and every vision comes to nothing’?

「人の子よ。『時がたてば預言は意味を失う』という、イスラエル人たちが口にすることわざは何か。

Say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am going to put an end to this proverb, and they will no longer quote it in Israel.’ Say to them, ‘The days are near when every vision will be fulfilled.

神である主は、このことわざをやめさせる。人々はもう、それを口にしなくなる。代わりに、このことわざを言わせなさい。『すべての預言の成就する時がきた。』

For there will be no more false visions or flattering divinations among the people of Israel.

その時、エルサレムの安全は保証されているという偽りの予告が暴露される。

But I the Lord will speak what I will, and it shall be fulfilled without delay. For in your days, you rebellious people, I will fulfill whatever I say, declares the Sovereign Lord.’”

わたしは主である。わたしが起こると警告することは、必ず起こる。ああ、イスラエルの反逆者たち。もう決して遅れることはない。おまえたちが生きているうちに、わたしはそのようにする。」こう神である主が言うのです。

The word of the Lord came to me:

また、このようなことばがありました。

“Son of man, the Israelites are saying, ‘The vision he sees is for many years from now, and he prophesies about the distant future.’

「人の子よ。イスラエルの民は、『彼が見ている幻は、まだ当分の間実現しそうにない』と言っている。

“Therefore say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: None of my words will be delayed any longer; whatever I say will be fulfilled, declares the Sovereign Lord.’”

だから、『神である主はこう言います。もう、これ以上遅れることはない。わたしは今、それを行う』と言ってやりなさい。」
