Job 12

“Doubtless you are the only people who matter,
    and wisdom will die with you!

– Ну, конечно же, только вы люди,
    и мудрость умрёт вместе с вами!

But I have a mind as well as you;
    I am not inferior to you.
    Who does not know all these things?

И у меня есть ум, как у вас;
    я ничем не хуже вас,
    да и кто же всего этого не знает?

“I have become a laughingstock to my friends,
    though I called on God and he answered—
    a mere laughingstock, though righteous and blameless!

Я стал для друзей посмешищем,
    а ведь я к Всевышнему взывал, и Он мне отвечал!
Я, праведный и безупречный,
    стал посмешищем!

Those who are at ease have contempt for misfortune
    as the fate of those whose feet are slipping.

Кто, находясь в благополучии, презирает несчастного,
    тот вскоре и сам поскользнётся.

The tents of marauders are undisturbed,
    and those who provoke God are secure—
    those God has in his hand.^[a]

Шатры грабителей в безопасности,
    и те, кто гневит Всевышнего, спокойны,
    словно Всевышний у них в руках.

“But ask the animals, and they will teach you,
    or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you;

Но спроси у животных, они научат тебя,
    у небесных птиц, они тебе скажут.

or speak to the earth, and it will teach you,
    or let the fish in the sea inform you.

Побеседуй с землёй, она наставит тебя,
    и рыбы морские тебе возвестят.

Which of all these does not know
    that the hand of the Lord has done this?

Кто среди них не знает,
    что всё это сделала рука Вечного?

In his hand is the life of every creature
    and the breath of all mankind.

Жизнь всякой твари в Его руке,
    как и дыхание всякого человека.

Does not the ear test words
    as the tongue tastes food?

Это так же очевидно, как то, что ухо разбирает слова,
    а язык различает вкус пищи!

Is not wisdom found among the aged?
    Does not long life bring understanding?

Разве не у старейших мудрость?
    Разве долгая жизнь не приносит разум?

“To God belong wisdom and power;
    counsel and understanding are his.

Да! Но у Всевышнего и мудрость, и сила,
    у Него и совет, и разум.

What he tears down cannot be rebuilt;
    those he imprisons cannot be released.

Что Он разрушил, не восстановится,
    кого Он заключил, не выйдут на волю.

If he holds back the waters, there is drought;
    if he lets them loose, they devastate the land.

Он удержит воды, и будет засуха,
    отпустит – они затопят землю.

To him belong strength and insight;
    both deceived and deceiver are his.

У Него всесилие и премудрость,
    в Его власти и обманутый, и обманщик.

He leads rulers away stripped
    and makes fools of judges.

Советчиков Он гонит босыми
    и глупцами делает судей.

He takes off the shackles put on by kings
    and ties a loincloth^[b] around their waist.

У царей Он развязывает пояса мантии
    и обвязывает им бёдра повязкой раба.

He leads priests away stripped
    and overthrows officials long established.

Священнослужителей Он гонит босыми
    и низвергает сильных.

He silences the lips of trusted advisers
    and takes away the discernment of elders.

Он лишает речи искусных советников
    и отбирает разум у старцев.

He pours contempt on nobles
    and disarms the mighty.

Он покрывает позором знатных
    и лишает оружия могучих.

He reveals the deep things of darkness
    and brings utter darkness into the light.

Он открывает глубины тьмы
    и выводит на свет сокрытое во мраке.

He makes nations great, and destroys them;
    he enlarges nations, and disperses them.

Он возвышает и губит народы,
    умножает их и рассеивает.

He deprives the leaders of the earth of their reason;
    he makes them wander in a trackless waste.

Он лишает рассудка земных владык
    и шлёт их в пустыню, где нет пути.

They grope in darkness with no light;
    he makes them stagger like drunkards.
