Deuteronomy 2

Then we turned back and set out toward the wilderness along the route to the Red Sea,^[a] as the Lord had directed me. For a long time we made our way around the hill country of Seir.

Затем мы повернули назад и отправились в пустыню в сторону Тростникового моря, как указал мне Вечный. Долго мы кружили вокруг нагорий Сеира.

Then the Lord said to me,

Затем Вечный сказал мне:

“You have made your way around this hill country long enough; now turn north.

«Довольно кружить вокруг этих нагорий, теперь поверните к северу.

Give the people these orders: ‘You are about to pass through the territory of your relatives the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. They will be afraid of you, but be very careful.

Дай народу такое повеление: “Сейчас вы будете проходить через землю ваших братьев, потомков Эсова, которые живут в Сеире. Они испугаются вас, но будьте очень осторожны.

Do not provoke them to war, for I will not give you any of their land, not even enough to put your foot on. I have given Esau the hill country of Seir as his own.

Не побуждайте их к войне, потому что Я не дам вам ни пяди их земли. Я дал Эсову нагорья Сеира в собственность.

You are to pay them in silver for the food you eat and the water you drink.’”

Вы должны заплатить им серебром за пищу, которую будете есть, и за воду, которую будете пить.

The Lord your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He has watched over your journey through this vast wilderness. These forty years the Lord your God has been with you, and you have not lacked anything.

Вечный, ваш Бог, благословил вас во всяком деле ваших рук. Он охранял вас в путешествии через эту огромную пустыню. Эти сорок лет Вечный, ваш Бог, был с вами, и вы ни в чём не нуждались”».

So we went on past our relatives the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. We turned from the Arabah road, which comes up from Elath and Ezion Geber, and traveled along the desert road of Moab.

Так мы прошли мимо наших братьев, потомков Эсова, которые живут в Сеире. Мы повернули с дороги иорданской долины, которая поднимается от Елата и Эцион-Гевера, и путешествовали по дороге пустыни Моава.

Then the Lord said to me, “Do not harass the Moabites or provoke them to war, for I will not give you any part of their land. I have given Ar to the descendants of Lot as a possession.”

Вечный сказал мне: «Не тревожь моавитян и не побуждай их к войне, потому что Я не дам тебе их земли. Я дал Ар^[a] во владение потомкам Лута».

(The Emites used to live there—a people strong and numerous, and as tall as the Anakites.

(Прежде там жили емиты – сильный и многочисленный народ, высокие, как анакиты.

Like the Anakites, they too were considered Rephaites, but the Moabites called them Emites.

Подобно анакитам, они считались рефаитами, но моавитяне называли их емитами.

Horites used to live in Seir, but the descendants of Esau drove them out. They destroyed the Horites from before them and settled in their place, just as Israel did in the land the Lord gave them as their possession.)

А в Сеире прежде жили хорреи, но потомки Эсова прогнали их. Они истребили хорреев и поселились на их земле – сделали так же, как сделал Исроил в земле, которую Вечный отдал ему во владение.)

And the Lord said, “Now get up and cross the Zered Valley.” So we crossed the valley.

Вечный сказал: «Теперь встаньте и пересеките долину Заред». И мы пересекли долину.

Thirty-eight years passed from the time we left Kadesh Barnea until we crossed the Zered Valley. By then, that entire generation of fighting men had perished from the camp, as the Lord had sworn to them.

Тридцать восемь лет прошло с тех пор, как мы покинули Кадеш-Барни, до того времени, как мы пересекли долину Заред. К тому времени в лагере уже не осталось никого из прежнего поколения воинов, как и клялся им Вечный.

The Lord’s hand was against them until he had completely eliminated them from the camp.

Рука Вечного была против них, пока Он полностью не искоренил их из лагеря.

Now when the last of these fighting men among the people had died,

И вот, когда последний из этих воинов умер,

the Lord said to me,

Вечный сказал мне:

“Today you are to pass by the region of Moab at Ar.

«Пройди сегодня мимо земли Моава, то есть мимо Ара.

When you come to the Ammonites, do not harass them or provoke them to war, for I will not give you possession of any land belonging to the Ammonites. I have given it as a possession to the descendants of Lot.”

Когда ты приблизишься к аммонитянам, не тревожь их и не побуждай к войне, потому что от земли, принадлежащей аммонитянам, Я не дам тебе во владение ничего. Я дал её во владение потомкам Лута».

(That too was considered a land of the Rephaites, who used to live there; but the Ammonites called them Zamzummites.

(Она также считалась землёй рефаитов, которые прежде жили там, но аммонитяне называли их замзумитами.

They were a people strong and numerous, and as tall as the Anakites. The Lord destroyed them from before the Ammonites, who drove them out and settled in their place.

Они были сильным и многочисленным народом, высоким, как анакиты. Вечный истребил их перед аммонитянами, которые прогнали их и поселились на их земле.

The Lord had done the same for the descendants of Esau, who lived in Seir, when he destroyed the Horites from before them. They drove them out and have lived in their place to this day.

Вечный сделал то же самое для потомков Эсова, которые жили в Сеире, когда истребил перед ними хорреев. Они прогнали их и поселились на их месте, где живут и сейчас.

And as for the Avvites who lived in villages as far as Gaza, the Caphtorites coming out from Caphtor^[b] destroyed them and settled in their place.)

Defeat of Sihon King of Heshbon

А что до аввитов, которые жили в селениях до самой Газы, то кафтореи, вышедшие с Крита^[b], истребили их и поселились на их месте.)

“Set out now and cross the Arnon Gorge. See, I have given into your hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his country. Begin to take possession of it and engage him in battle.

Вечный сказал: «Отправляйтесь в путь и перейдите реку Арнон. Смотри Исроил, Я отдал в твои руки аморрея Сигона, царя Хешбона, и его страну. Приступай к захвату и начинай воевать с ним.

This very day I will begin to put the terror and fear of you on all the nations under heaven. They will hear reports of you and will tremble and be in anguish because of you.”

С этого самого дня Я стану распространять ужас и страх перед тобой на все народы под небом. Они услышат вести о тебе и испугаются, и затрепещут от страха».

From the Desert of Kedemoth I sent messengers to Sihon king of Heshbon offering peace and saying,

Из пустыни Кедемот я послал вестников к Сигону, царю Хешбона, чтобы предложить мир, и сказал:

“Let us pass through your country. We will stay on the main road; we will not turn aside to the right or to the left.

«Позволь нам пройти через твою страну. Мы будем держаться главной дороги – не свернём ни вправо, ни влево.

Sell us food to eat and water to drink for their price in silver. Only let us pass through on foot—

Продай нам за серебро пищу, чтобы есть, и воду, чтобы пить. Позволь нам только пройти,

as the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir, and the Moabites, who live in Ar, did for us—until we cross the Jordan into the land the Lord our God is giving us.”

как позволили потомки Эсова, которые живут в Сеире, и моавитяне, которые живут в Аре, – пока мы не перейдём через Иордан в землю, которую Вечный, наш Бог, отдаёт нам».

But Sihon king of Heshbon refused to let us pass through. For the Lord your God had made his spirit stubborn and his heart obstinate in order to give him into your hands, as he has now done.

Но Сигон, царь Хешбона, не позволил нам пройти. Ведь Вечный, ваш Бог, сделал его сердце упрямым, а дух упорным, чтобы отдать его в ваши руки, как и произошло.

The Lord said to me, “See, I have begun to deliver Sihon and his country over to you. Now begin to conquer and possess his land.”

Вечный сказал мне: «Смотри, Я отдаю Сигона и его страну тебе. Теперь захвати его землю и завладей ею».

When Sihon and all his army came out to meet us in battle at Jahaz,

Когда Сигон выступил нам навстречу со всем своим войском к Иахацу,

the Lord our God delivered him over to us and we struck him down, together with his sons and his whole army.

Вечный, наш Бог, отдал его нам в руки, и мы поразили его вместе с его сыновьями и всем войском.

At that time we took all his towns and completely destroyed^[c] them—men, women and children. We left no survivors.

В то время мы взяли все его города и полностью истребили народ – мужчин, женщин и детей. Мы не оставили в живых никого.

But the livestock and the plunder from the towns we had captured we carried off for ourselves.

Но скот и добычу из захваченных городов мы взяли себе.

From Aroer on the rim of the Arnon Gorge, and from the town in the gorge, even as far as Gilead, not one town was too strong for us. The Lord our God gave us all of them.

От города Ароера на берегу реки Арнона и от города, что в долине, до самого Галаада не было города, который оказался бы неприступным для нас. Вечный, наш Бог, отдал нам всё.

But in accordance with the command of the Lord our God, you did not encroach on any of the land of the Ammonites, neither the land along the course of the Jabbok nor that around the towns in the hills.

Но по повелению Вечного, нашего Бога, мы не посягнули ни на землю аммонитян, ни на землю вдоль реки Иаббока, ни на ту, что вокруг городов в горах.
