Numbers 11

Now the people complained about their hardships in the hearing of the Lord, and when he heard them his anger was aroused. Then fire from the Lord burned among them and consumed some of the outskirts of the camp.

Народ сетовал перед Вечным на тяготы, и, услышав их, Он разгневался. Огонь Вечного загорелся среди них и стал пожирать край лагеря.

When the people cried out to Moses, he prayed to the Lord and the fire died down.

Народ стал звать на помощь Мусу; Муса помолился Вечному, и огонь угас.

So that place was called Taberah,^[a] because fire from the Lord had burned among them.

Quail From the Lord

То место было названо Тавера («горение»), потому что огонь Вечного загорелся среди них.

The rabble with them began to crave other food, and again the Israelites started wailing and said, “If only we had meat to eat!

Чужеземцы, которые были среди них, стали очень прихотливы в пище. Тогда и исраильтяне вновь принялись плакать вместе с ними и говорить:

– Поесть бы нам мяса!

We remember the fish we ate in Egypt at no cost—also the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic.

Мы помним рыбу, которую ели в Египте даром, огурцы, дыни, лук-порей, репчатый лук и чеснок.

But now we have lost our appetite; we never see anything but this manna!”

Но теперь силы у нас иссякли. Ничего, ну совсем ничего, – мы видим только одну манну!

The manna was like coriander seed and looked like resin.

Манна была похожа на кориандровое семя, цвета же она была светло-жёлтого^[a].

The people went around gathering it, and then ground it in a hand mill or crushed it in a mortar. They cooked it in a pot or made it into loaves. And it tasted like something made with olive oil.

Народ ходил и собирал её, а затем перемалывал её ручными жерновами или толок в ступе. Они готовили её в горшке или делали из неё лепёшки. По вкусу она напоминала лепёшки с оливковым маслом.

When the dew settled on the camp at night, the manna also came down.

Когда ночью на лагерь опускалась роса, опускалась на него и манна.

Семьдесят старейшин

Moses heard the people of every family wailing at the entrance to their tents. The Lord became exceedingly angry, and Moses was troubled.

Муса услышал, как в каждой семье люди плачут у входа в свои шатры. Вечный очень разгневался, и Муса огорчился.

He asked the Lord, “Why have you brought this trouble on your servant? What have I done to displease you that you put the burden of all these people on me?

Он спросил Вечного:

– За что Ты так мучаешь меня? Чем я прогневил Тебя, что Ты возложил на меня бремя этого народа?

Did I conceive all these people? Did I give them birth? Why do you tell me to carry them in my arms, as a nurse carries an infant, to the land you promised on oath to their ancestors?

Разве я зачал этот народ? Разве я родил его? Почему Ты велишь мне нести его на руках, как нянька носит младенца, в страну, которую Ты с клятвой обещал их предкам?

Where can I get meat for all these people? They keep wailing to me, ‘Give us meat to eat!’

Где мне взять мясо для этого народа? Они плачут предо мной и говорят: «Накорми нас мясом!»

I cannot carry all these people by myself; the burden is too heavy for me.

Я не могу нести бремя этого народа один; мне это не под силу.

If this is how you are going to treat me, please go ahead and kill me—if I have found favor in your eyes—and do not let me face my own ruin.”

Если Ты собираешься так обходиться со мной, то прошу, предай меня смерти прямо сейчас, если я нашёл у Тебя расположение, чтобы мне не видеть своей беды.

The Lord said to Moses: “Bring me seventy of Israel’s elders who are known to you as leaders and officials among the people. Have them come to the tent of meeting, that they may stand there with you.

Вечный сказал Мусе:

– Приведи Мне семьдесят человек из исраильских старейшин, которых ты знаешь как вождей народа. Пусть они придут к шатру встречи и встанут там с тобой.

I will come down and speak with you there, and I will take some of the power of the Spirit that is on you and put it on them. They will share the burden of the people with you so that you will not have to carry it alone.

Я сойду и буду говорить с тобой там. Я возьму от Духа, что на тебе, и возложу на них. Они помогут тебе нести бремя народа, чтобы тебе не нести его одному.

“Tell the people: ‘Consecrate yourselves in preparation for tomorrow, when you will eat meat. The Lord heard you when you wailed, “If only we had meat to eat! We were better off in Egypt!” Now the Lord will give you meat, and you will eat it.

Скажи народу: «Освятитесь к завтрашнему дню, и будете есть мясо. Вечный услышал, как вы плакали и говорили: „Поесть бы нам мяса! В Египте было лучше!“ Вечный накормит вас мясом.

You will not eat it for just one day, or two days, or five, ten or twenty days,

Вы будете есть его не один день, не два, не пять, не десять, не двадцать дней,

but for a whole month—until it comes out of your nostrils and you loathe it—because you have rejected the Lord, who is among you, and have wailed before him, saying, “Why did we ever leave Egypt?”’”

а целый месяц, пока оно не полезет у вас из ноздрей и не станет для вас отвратительным, потому что вы отвергли Вечного, Который среди вас, и плакали перед Ним, говоря: „Зачем мы ушли из Египта?!“»

But Moses said, “Here I am among six hundred thousand men on foot, and you say, ‘I will give them meat to eat for a whole month!’

Муса сказал:

– Я здесь среди шестисот тысяч пеших мужчин, а Ты говоришь: «Я буду кормить их мясом целый месяц!»

Would they have enough if flocks and herds were slaughtered for them? Would they have enough if all the fish in the sea were caught for them?”

Да разве хватит им, если для них забьют весь скот, какой только есть? Разве хватит им, если для них выловят в море всю рыбу?

The Lord answered Moses, “Is the Lord’s arm too short? Now you will see whether or not what I say will come true for you.”

Вечный ответил Мусе:

– Разве рука Вечного коротка? Сейчас ты увидишь, исполнится ли Моё обещание тебе.

So Moses went out and told the people what the Lord had said. He brought together seventy of their elders and had them stand around the tent.

Муса вышел и передал народу то, что сказал Вечный. Он собрал семьдесят человек из старейшин и поставил их вокруг шатра.

Then the Lord came down in the cloud and spoke with him, and he took some of the power of the Spirit that was on him and put it on the seventy elders. When the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied—but did not do so again.

Тогда Вечный сошёл в облаке и говорил с ним. Он взял от Духа, что был на нём, и возложил на семьдесят старейшин. Дух почил на них, и они пророчествовали, но потом перестали^[b].

However, two men, whose names were Eldad and Medad, had remained in the camp. They were listed among the elders, but did not go out to the tent. Yet the Spirit also rested on them, and they prophesied in the camp.

Два человека, которых звали Элдад и Медад, оставались в лагере. Они были записаны между старейшинами, но не вышли к шатру. Дух почил и на них, и они пророчествовали в лагере.

A young man ran and told Moses, “Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp.”

Юноша прибежал и сказал Мусе:

– Элдад и Медад пророчествуют в лагере.

Joshua son of Nun, who had been Moses’ aide since youth, spoke up and said, “Moses, my lord, stop them!”

Иешуа, сын Нуна, который был помощником Мусы с юности^[c], сказал:

– Муса, господин мой, останови их!

But Moses replied, “Are you jealous for my sake? I wish that all the Lord’s people were prophets and that the Lord would put his Spirit on them!”

Но Муса ответил:

– Ты ревнуешь за меня? Я хотел бы, чтобы все в народе Вечного стали пророками, и Вечный послал бы на них Своего Духа!

Then Moses and the elders of Israel returned to the camp.

Потом Муса и старейшины Исраила возвратились в лагерь.

Перепела от Вечного

Now a wind went out from the Lord and drove quail in from the sea. It scattered them up to two cubits^[b] deep all around the camp, as far as a day’s walk in any direction.

И вот, поднялся ветер от Вечного и принёс с моря перепелов. Они были везде на расстоянии дневного пути в каждую сторону от лагеря, летая на высоте около одного метра^[d] от земли.^[e]

All that day and night and all the next day the people went out and gathered quail. No one gathered less than ten homers.^[c] Then they spread them out all around the camp.

Весь тот день, всю ночь и весь следующий день народ ходил собирать перепелов, и каждый человек собрал огромное количество^[f] птиц. Они разложили их вокруг лагеря.

But while the meat was still between their teeth and before it could be consumed, the anger of the Lord burned against the people, and he struck them with a severe plague.

И пока ещё мясо было у них на зубах, Вечный разгневался на народ и поразил его лютым мором.

Therefore the place was named Kibroth Hattaavah,^[d] because there they buried the people who had craved other food.

Поэтому то место было названо Киврот-Таава («могилы прихоти»): там похоронили тех, кто поддался прихоти.

From Kibroth Hattaavah the people traveled to Hazeroth and stayed there.

Из Киврот-Таавы народ двинулся к Хацероту и остановился там.
