Joshua 7

But the Israelites were unfaithful in regard to the devoted things^[a]; Achan son of Karmi, the son of Zimri,^[b] the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took some of them. So the Lord’s anger burned against Israel.

Но исраильтяне не исполнили повеления о подлежащих уничтожению вещах: Ахан, сын Харми, внук Зимри^[a], правнук Зераха, из рода Иуды, взял себе часть из них. И гнев Вечного вспыхнул на Исраил.

Now Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is near Beth Aven to the east of Bethel, and told them, “Go up and spy out the region.” So the men went up and spied out Ai.

Иешуа послал несколько человек из Иерихона в Гай, что рядом с Бет-Авеном к востоку от Вефиля, сказав им:

– Идите, разведайте этот город.

Те люди пошли и разведали Гай.

When they returned to Joshua, they said, “Not all the army will have to go up against Ai. Send two or three thousand men to take it and do not weary the whole army, for only a few people live there.”

Вернувшись к Иешуа, они сказали:

– Всему народу не нужно идти на Гай. Пошли две или три тысячи человек, чтобы захватить его. Всего своего народа не утруждай, потому что в городе мало людей.

So about three thousand went up; but they were routed by the men of Ai,

И около трёх тысяч человек отправилось туда, но жители Гая обратили их в бегство,

who killed about thirty-six of them. They chased the Israelites from the city gate as far as the stone quarries and struck them down on the slopes. At this the hearts of the people melted in fear and became like water.

убив из них тридцать шесть человек. Они преследовали исраильтян от городских ворот до самых каменоломен^[b] и поражали их на склонах. От этого сердца исраильтян ослабели и стали как вода.

Then Joshua tore his clothes and fell facedown to the ground before the ark of the Lord, remaining there till evening. The elders of Israel did the same, and sprinkled dust on their heads.

Иешуа в печали разорвал на себе одежду, пал лицом на землю перед сундуком Вечного и оставался там до вечера. Старейшины Исраила сделали то же самое, и все они посыпали свои головы пылью.

And Joshua said, “Alas, Sovereign Lord, why did you ever bring this people across the Jordan to deliver us into the hands of the Amorites to destroy us? If only we had been content to stay on the other side of the Jordan!

Иешуа сказал:

– О Владыка Вечный! Зачем же Ты перевёл этот народ через Иордан, чтобы отдать нас в руки аморреев и погубить нас?! О, если бы мы только остались и жили за Иорданом!

Pardon your servant, Lord. What can I say, now that Israel has been routed by its enemies?

О Владыка! Что мне сказать теперь, когда Исраил обратился спиной к своим врагам?

The Canaanites and the other people of the country will hear about this and they will surround us and wipe out our name from the earth. What then will you do for your own great name?”

Хананеи и другие жители этой страны услышат об этом, окружат нас и сотрут наше имя с лица земли. Что Ты станешь делать тогда для Своего великого имени?

The Lord said to Joshua, “Stand up! What are you doing down on your face?

Вечный сказал Иешуа:

– Встань! Зачем ты пал лицом на землю?

Israel has sinned; they have violated my covenant, which I commanded them to keep. They have taken some of the devoted things; they have stolen, they have lied, they have put them with their own possessions.

Исраил согрешил. Они нарушили Моё священное соглашение, которое Я повелел им хранить. Они взяли часть из подлежащих уничтожению вещей. Они украли. Они солгали. Они положили их со своими пожитками.

That is why the Israelites cannot stand against their enemies; they turn their backs and run because they have been made liable to destruction. I will not be with you anymore unless you destroy whatever among you is devoted to destruction.

Вот почему исраильтяне не могут устоять перед своими врагами. Они обратились спиной к своим врагам потому, что попали под проклятие. Я больше не буду с вами, если вы не уничтожите у себя всё, что было предназначено для этого.

“Go, consecrate the people. Tell them, ‘Consecrate yourselves in preparation for tomorrow; for this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: There are devoted things among you, Israel. You cannot stand against your enemies until you remove them.

Иди, освяти народ. Скажи им: «Освятитесь для завтрашнего дня, потому что Вечный, Бог Исраила, говорит: „То, что подлежит уничтожению, находится у тебя, Исраил. Ты не сможешь устоять перед своими врагами, пока не удалишь от себя проклятого“.

“‘In the morning, present yourselves tribe by tribe. The tribe the Lord chooses shall come forward clan by clan; the clan the Lord chooses shall come forward family by family; and the family the Lord chooses shall come forward man by man.

Подходите утром по своим родам. Род, на который укажет Вечный, пусть подходит по своим кланам. Клан, на который укажет Вечный, пусть подходит по своим семьям. А семья, на которую укажет Вечный, пусть подходит по одному человеку.

Whoever is caught with the devoted things shall be destroyed by fire, along with all that belongs to him. He has violated the covenant of the Lord and has done an outrageous thing in Israel!’”

Тот, кого возьмут с подлежащими уничтожению вещами, будет сожжён вместе со всем, что у него есть. Он нарушил священное соглашение с Вечным и совершил среди исраильтян бесчестный поступок!»

Early the next morning Joshua had Israel come forward by tribes, and Judah was chosen.

На следующее утро Иешуа встал рано и велел Исраилу подходить по родам, и был указан род Иуды.

The clans of Judah came forward, and the Zerahites were chosen. He had the clan of the Zerahites come forward by families, and Zimri was chosen.

Он велел подходить кланам Иуды, и указан был клан зерахитов. Он велел клану зерахитов подходить по семьям, и указана была семья Зимри.

Joshua had his family come forward man by man, and Achan son of Karmi, the son of Zimri, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was chosen.

Иешуа велел его семье подходить по одному человеку и указан был Ахан, сын Харми, внук Зимри, правнук Зераха из рода Иуды.

Then Joshua said to Achan, “My son, give glory to the Lord, the God of Israel, and honor him. Tell me what you have done; do not hide it from me.”

И Иешуа сказал Ахану:

– Сын мой, воздай славу Вечному, Богу Исраила, и восхвали Его^[c]!^[d] Расскажи мне, что ты сделал, не скрывай от меня ничего!

Achan replied, “It is true! I have sinned against the Lord, the God of Israel. This is what I have done:

Ахан ответил:

– Это правда! Я согрешил перед Вечным, Богом Исраила. Вот что я сделал:

When I saw in the plunder a beautiful robe from Babylonia,^[c] two hundred shekels^[d] of silver and a bar of gold weighing fifty shekels,^[e] I coveted them and took them. They are hidden in the ground inside my tent, with the silver underneath.”

увидев среди добычи прекрасную верхнюю одежду из Вавилонии^[e], серебро весом в два с половиной килограмма и слиток золота весом в полкилограмма^[f], я позарился на них и взял себе. Они спрятаны в земле у меня в шатре, серебро лежит в самом низу.

So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran to the tent, and there it was, hidden in his tent, with the silver underneath.

Тогда Иешуа послал людей, они побежали в шатёр и увидели, что эти вещи на самом деле были спрятаны у него в шатре, серебро лежало в самом низу.

They took the things from the tent, brought them to Joshua and all the Israelites and spread them out before the Lord.

Они взяли их из его шатра, принесли к Иешуа и ко всем исраильтянам и разложили перед Вечным.

Then Joshua, together with all Israel, took Achan son of Zerah, the silver, the robe, the gold bar, his sons and daughters, his cattle, donkeys and sheep, his tent and all that he had, to the Valley of Achor.

Иешуа и с ним все исраильтяне взяли Ахана, правнука Зераха, серебро, верхнюю одежду, золотой слиток, его сыновей и дочерей, его волов, ослов и овец, его шатёр и всё, что у него было, и вывели их в долину Ахор.

Joshua said, “Why have you brought this trouble on us? The Lord will bring trouble on you today.”

Then all Israel stoned him, and after they had stoned the rest, they burned them.

Иешуа сказал:

– Почему ты навёл на нас эту беду? Сегодня Вечный наведёт беду на тебя.

И все исраильтяне забили Ахана камнями. После того как забили камнями и остальных членов его семьи, они сожгли их.

Over Achan they heaped up a large pile of rocks, which remains to this day. Then the Lord turned from his fierce anger. Therefore that place has been called the Valley of Achor^[f] ever since.

Над Аханом они набросали большую груду камней, которая осталась до сегодняшнего дня.

После этого Вечный оставил Свой пылающий гнев. Поэтому то место зовётся долиною Ахор («беда») и до сих пор.
