Jeremiah 44

This word came to Jeremiah concerning all the Jews living in Lower Egypt—in Migdol, Tahpanhes and Memphis—and in Upper Egypt:

“This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: You saw the great disaster I brought on Jerusalem and on all the towns of Judah. Today they lie deserted and in ruins

– Так говорит Вечный, Повелитель Сил, Бог Исраила: Вы видели все невзгоды, которые Я обрушил на Иерусалим и на все города Иудеи. Сегодня они лежат в развалинах, и никто не живёт там

because of the evil they have done. They aroused my anger by burning incense to and worshiping other gods that neither they nor you nor your ancestors ever knew.

из-за злодеяний, которые они совершили. Они прогневили Меня, возжигая благовония и поклоняясь чужим богам, которых не знали ни вы, ни ваши предки.

Again and again I sent my servants the prophets, who said, ‘Do not do this detestable thing that I hate!’

Снова и снова Я посылал Моих рабов пророков, которые говорили: «Не делайте этой мерзости, которую Я ненавижу!»

But they did not listen or pay attention; they did not turn from their wickedness or stop burning incense to other gods.

Но они не слушали и не обращали внимания; они не отступали от своих злодеяний и не переставали возжигать благовония чужим богам.

Therefore, my fierce anger was poured out; it raged against the towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem and made them the desolate ruins they are today.

За это Мой страшный гнев прорвался и заполыхал в городах Иудеи и на улицах Иерусалима, превратив их в заброшенные руины, каковы они и сегодня.

“Now this is what the Lord God Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Why bring such great disaster on yourselves by cutting off from Judah the men and women, the children and infants, and so leave yourselves without a remnant?

И теперь так говорит Вечный, Бог Сил, Бог Исраила:

– Зачем вам наводить на себя такую страшную беду? Зачем наводить гибель на мужчин и женщин, детей и младенцев Иудеи, на всех без остатка?

Why arouse my anger with what your hands have made, burning incense to other gods in Egypt, where you have come to live? You will destroy yourselves and make yourselves a curse^[a] and an object of reproach among all the nations on earth.

Зачем вызывать Мой гнев делами своих рук, возжигая благовония чужим богам в Египте, куда вы пришли поселиться? Вы погубите себя и сделаете самих себя предметом проклятий и порицания среди всех народов земли.

Have you forgotten the wickedness committed by your ancestors and by the kings and queens of Judah and the wickedness committed by you and your wives in the land of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem?

Неужели вы забыли злодеяния, совершённые вашими отцами, злодеяния царей Иудеи и их жён, а также злодеяния ваши и жён ваших в земле Иудеи и на улицах Иерусалима?

To this day they have not humbled themselves or shown reverence, nor have they followed my law and the decrees I set before you and your ancestors.

Вплоть до сегодняшнего дня вы не смирились, не боитесь Меня и не живёте по Моему Закону и по Моим установлениям, которые Я дал вам и вашим предкам.

“Therefore this is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: I am determined to bring disaster on you and to destroy all Judah.

Поэтому так говорит Вечный, Повелитель Сил, Бог Исраила:

– Я решил обрушить на вас беду и погубить всю Иудею.

I will take away the remnant of Judah who were determined to go to Egypt to settle there. They will all perish in Egypt; they will fall by the sword or die from famine. From the least to the greatest, they will die by sword or famine. They will become a curse and an object of horror, a curse and an object of reproach.

Я заберу уцелевших иудеев, которые решили идти в Египет и поселиться там. Все они погибнут в Египте; они падут от меча или умрут от голода. Все, от малого до великого, умрут от меча или голода. Они станут предметом проклятий и ужаса, порицания и презрения.

I will punish those who live in Egypt with the sword, famine and plague, as I punished Jerusalem.

Я накажу живущих в Египте мечом, голодом и мором, как наказал Иерусалим.

None of the remnant of Judah who have gone to live in Egypt will escape or survive to return to the land of Judah, to which they long to return and live; none will return except a few fugitives.”

Никто из оставшихся иудеев, пришедших поселиться в Египте, не спасётся и не уцелеет, чтобы вернуться в землю иудейскую, куда они хотели бы вернуться, чтобы жить там; никто, кроме нескольких беженцев, не вернётся.

Then all the men who knew that their wives were burning incense to other gods, along with all the women who were present—a large assembly—and all the people living in Lower and Upper Egypt, said to Jeremiah,

Тогда все мужчины, знавшие, что их жёны жгут благовония чужим богам, и все женщины, которые там были, – огромное собрание – и весь народ, живущий в Нижнем и Верхнем Египте, сказали Иеремии:

“We will not listen to the message you have spoken to us in the name of the Lord!

– Мы не станем слушать того, что ты говоришь нам от имени Вечного!

We will certainly do everything we said we would: We will burn incense to the Queen of Heaven and will pour out drink offerings to her just as we and our ancestors, our kings and our officials did in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. At that time we had plenty of food and were well off and suffered no harm.

Мы обязательно будем делать всё, о чём дали обеты: возжигать благовония богине неба^[c] и совершать ей жертвенные возлияния, как делали и мы, и наши отцы, наши цари, и наши сановники в городах Иудеи и на улицах Иерусалима. Мы тогда ели досыта, жили в благополучии и не видели зла.

But ever since we stopped burning incense to the Queen of Heaven and pouring out drink offerings to her, we have had nothing and have been perishing by sword and famine.”

А с тех пор как мы перестали возжигать благовония богине неба и совершать для неё жертвенные возлияния, мы терпим нужду и погибаем от меча и голода.

The women added, “When we burned incense to the Queen of Heaven and poured out drink offerings to her, did not our husbands know that we were making cakes impressed with her image and pouring out drink offerings to her?”

А женщины сказали:

– Когда мы возжигали благовония богине неба и совершали жертвенные возлияния, разве наши мужья не знали, что мы делаем для неё лепёшки с её изображением и приносим ей жертвенные возлияния?

Then Jeremiah said to all the people, both men and women, who were answering him,

Тогда Иеремия сказал всему народу, и мужчинам, и женщинам, которые отвечали ему:

“Did not the Lord remember and call to mind the incense burned in the towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem by you and your ancestors, your kings and your officials and the people of the land?

– Разве Вечный не помнит и не думает о благовониях, которые вы и ваши отцы, ваши цари и сановники и народ страны возжигали в городах Иудеи и на улицах Иерусалима?

When the Lord could no longer endure your wicked actions and the detestable things you did, your land became a curse and a desolate waste without inhabitants, as it is today.

Когда Вечный не мог больше терпеть ваших злодеяний и мерзостей, ваша земля стала предметом проклятий и необитаемой пустыней, какой она остаётся и сегодня.

Because you have burned incense and have sinned against the Lord and have not obeyed him or followed his law or his decrees or his stipulations, this disaster has come upon you, as you now see.”

За то, что вы возжигали благовония, грешили против Вечного, не слушались Его и не жили по Его Закону, установлениям и заповедям, эта беда и пришла к вам, как вы сами сегодня видите.

Then Jeremiah said to all the people, including the women, “Hear the word of the Lord, all you people of Judah in Egypt.

Потом Иеремия сказал всему народу и женщинам:

– Слушайте слово Вечного, весь народ Иудеи, живущий в Египте.

This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: You and your wives have done what you said you would do when you promised, ‘We will certainly carry out the vows we made to burn incense and pour out drink offerings to the Queen of Heaven.’

“Go ahead then, do what you promised! Keep your vows!

Так говорит Вечный, Повелитель Сил, Бог Исраила: «Вы с вашими жёнами совершили на деле то, что обещали, говоря: „Мы непременно будем исполнять свои обеты, которые мы дали, возжигая благовония и совершая жертвенные возлияния богине неба“. Давайте же, делайте, что обещали! Исполняйте свои обеты!»

But hear the word of the Lord, all you Jews living in Egypt: ‘I swear by my great name,’ says the Lord, ‘that no one from Judah living anywhere in Egypt will ever again invoke my name or swear, “As surely as the Sovereign Lord lives.”

Но выслушай слово Вечного, весь народ Иудеи, живущий в Египте: «Клянусь Своим великим именем, – говорит Вечный, – что никому из иудеев, живущих во всём Египте, не будет впредь дано призывать Моё имя и клясться: „Верно, как и то, что жив Владыка Вечный“.

For I am watching over them for harm, not for good; the Jews in Egypt will perish by sword and famine until they are all destroyed.

Я буду наблюдать за ними, чтобы причинить им зло, а не благо; иудеи в Египте будут умирать от меча и голода, пока все не погибнут.

Those who escape the sword and return to the land of Judah from Egypt will be very few. Then the whole remnant of Judah who came to live in Egypt will know whose word will stand—mine or theirs.

Тех же, кто спасётся от меча и вернётся из Египта в землю иудейскую, будет очень мало. Тогда весь оставшийся народ Иудеи, который пришёл в Египет, чтобы поселиться там, узнает, чьё слово сбудется, Моё или их.

“‘This will be the sign to you that I will punish you in this place,’ declares the Lord, ‘so that you will know that my threats of harm against you will surely stand.’

Вот вам знамение того, – возвещает Вечный, – что Я накажу вас в этом краю, чтобы вы знали, что Мои угрозы причинить вам зло непременно сбудутся.

This is what the Lord says: ‘I am going to deliver Pharaoh Hophra king of Egypt into the hands of his enemies who want to kill him, just as I gave Zedekiah king of Judah into the hands of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, the enemy who wanted to kill him.’”

Так говорит Вечный: Я отдам фараона Хофру^[d], египетского царя, в руки его врагов, которые ищут его смерти, как отдал Я Цедекию, царя Иудеи, в руки Навуходоносора, царя Вавилона, врага, который хотел убить его».
