Genesis 47

Joseph went and told Pharaoh, “My father and brothers, with their flocks and herds and everything they own, have come from the land of Canaan and are now in Goshen.”

He chose five of his brothers and presented them before Pharaoh.

Он выбрал пятерых из своих братьев и представил их фараону.

Pharaoh asked the brothers, “What is your occupation?”

“Your servants are shepherds,” they replied to Pharaoh, “just as our fathers were.”

Фараон спросил братьев:

– Чем вы занимаетесь?

Они ответили фараону:

– Твои рабы – пастухи, как и наши отцы, –

They also said to him, “We have come to live here for a while, because the famine is severe in Canaan and your servants’ flocks have no pasture. So now, please let your servants settle in Goshen.”

ещё они сказали: – Мы пришли сюда жить, потому что в земле Ханаана жестокий голод и твоим рабам негде пасти свои отары. Поэтому позволь твоим рабам поселиться в Гошене.

Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Your father and your brothers have come to you,

Фараон сказал Юсуфу:

– Твой отец и братья пришли к тебе.

and the land of Egypt is before you; settle your father and your brothers in the best part of the land. Let them live in Goshen. And if you know of any among them with special ability, put them in charge of my own livestock.”

Земля Египта – перед тобой; посели отца и братьев в лучшей части этой земли. Пусть живут в Гошене. А если ты знаешь среди них способных к тому людей, поставь их смотреть за моим собственным скотом.

Then Joseph brought his father Jacob in and presented him before Pharaoh. After Jacob blessed^[a] Pharaoh,

Юсуф привёл своего отца Якуба и представил его фараону, и Якуб благословил^[a] фараона.

Pharaoh asked him, “How old are you?”

Фараон спросил его:

And Jacob said to Pharaoh, “The years of my pilgrimage are a hundred and thirty. My years have been few and difficult, and they do not equal the years of the pilgrimage of my fathers.”

Якуб ответил фараону:

– Я прожил на свете сто тридцать лет. Жизнь моя была короткой и трудной, и я не достиг возраста моих отцов.

Then Jacob blessed^[b] Pharaoh and went out from his presence.

Якуб благословил^[b] фараона и покинул его дворец.

So Joseph settled his father and his brothers in Egypt and gave them property in the best part of the land, the district of Rameses, as Pharaoh directed.

Юсуф поселил отца и братьев в Египте и дал им в собственность лучшую часть земли в округе Раамсес, как повелел фараон.

Joseph also provided his father and his brothers and all his father’s household with food, according to the number of their children.

Joseph and the Famine

Юсуф обеспечил едой отца, и братьев, и весь свой род, дав каждому по числу членов его семьи.

Юсуф управляет Египтом во время голода

There was no food, however, in the whole region because the famine was severe; both Egypt and Canaan wasted away because of the famine.

Потом нигде не стало еды, потому что был жестокий голод; и Египет, и Ханаан были истощены от голода.

Joseph collected all the money that was to be found in Egypt and Canaan in payment for the grain they were buying, and he brought it to Pharaoh’s palace.

Юсуф собрал все деньги, какие только были в Египте и Ханаане, в уплату за зерно, которое у него покупали; он хранил их во дворце фараона.

When the money of the people of Egypt and Canaan was gone, all Egypt came to Joseph and said, “Give us food. Why should we die before your eyes? Our money is all gone.”

Когда кончились деньги и в Египте, и в Ханаане, все египтяне пришли к Юсуфу и сказали:

– Дай нам хлеба; зачем нам умирать у тебя на глазах? Наши деньги кончились.

“Then bring your livestock,” said Joseph. “I will sell you food in exchange for your livestock, since your money is gone.”

Юсуф сказал:

– Приведите свой скот, а я дам вам хлеба в обмен на него, раз у вас кончились деньги.

So they brought their livestock to Joseph, and he gave them food in exchange for their horses, their sheep and goats, their cattle and donkeys. And he brought them through that year with food in exchange for all their livestock.

Они привели к Юсуфу скот, и он дал им хлеба в обмен на лошадей, овец и коз, быков, коров и ослов. Он кормил их хлебом в тот год, в обмен на весь их скот.

When that year was over, they came to him the following year and said, “We cannot hide from our lord the fact that since our money is gone and our livestock belongs to you, there is nothing left for our lord except our bodies and our land.

Когда год прошёл, они пришли к нему и сказали:

– Мы не станем таить от нашего господина, что наши деньги кончились, и наш скот принадлежит тебе, так что у нас ничего не осталось для нашего господина, кроме наших тел и нашей земли.

Why should we perish before your eyes—we and our land as well? Buy us and our land in exchange for food, and we with our land will be in bondage to Pharaoh. Give us seed so that we may live and not die, and that the land may not become desolate.”

Зачем нам гибнуть у тебя на глазах, и нам самим, и нашей земле? Купи нас и нашу землю в обмен на хлеб, а мы с нашей землёй будем в рабстве у фараона; и дай нам семян, чтобы нам остаться в живых, и чтобы эта земля не опустела.

So Joseph bought all the land in Egypt for Pharaoh. The Egyptians, one and all, sold their fields, because the famine was too severe for them. The land became Pharaoh’s,

Так Юсуф купил всю землю в Египте для фараона. Египтяне продали каждый своё поле, потому что голод одолел их, и земля стала собственностью фараона,

and Joseph reduced the people to servitude,^[c] from one end of Egypt to the other.

а народ Юсуф сделал рабами, от одного конца Египта до другого.

However, he did not buy the land of the priests, because they received a regular allotment from Pharaoh and had food enough from the allotment Pharaoh gave them. That is why they did not sell their land.

Он не купил только землю жрецов, потому что они получали постоянную долю от фараона, и этой доли, которую дал им фараон, им хватало на пропитание; вот почему они не продали свою землю.

Joseph said to the people, “Now that I have bought you and your land today for Pharaoh, here is seed for you so you can plant the ground.

Юсуф сказал народу:

– Теперь, когда я купил вас и вашу землю для фараона, вот вам семена, чтобы засеять землю.

But when the crop comes in, give a fifth of it to Pharaoh. The other four-fifths you may keep as seed for the fields and as food for yourselves and your households and your children.”

Когда поспеет урожай, отдайте одну пятую от него фараону, а остальные четыре пятых будут вам на семена для полей и на пропитание для вас самих, для ваших домашних и для детей.

“You have saved our lives,” they said. “May we find favor in the eyes of our lord; we will be in bondage to Pharaoh.”

Они сказали:

– Ты спас нам жизнь. Да найдём мы расположение в глазах нашего господина: мы будем рабами фараона.

So Joseph established it as a law concerning land in Egypt—still in force today—that a fifth of the produce belongs to Pharaoh. It was only the land of the priests that did not become Pharaoh’s.

Так Юсуф установил в Египте закон о земле, который и сегодня в силе: одна пятая всего урожая принадлежит фараону, кроме урожая с земель жрецов, которая не стала собственностью фараона.

Последнее желание Якуба

Now the Israelites settled in Egypt in the region of Goshen. They acquired property there and were fruitful and increased greatly in number.

Исраильтяне жили в Египте в области Гошен; они приобрели там собственность и были плодовиты; число их возрастало.

Jacob lived in Egypt seventeen years, and the years of his life were a hundred and forty-seven.

Якуб прожил в Египте семнадцать лет, так что всего он жил сто сорок семь лет.

When the time drew near for Israel to die, he called for his son Joseph and said to him, “If I have found favor in your eyes, put your hand under my thigh and promise that you will show me kindness and faithfulness. Do not bury me in Egypt,

Когда пришло ему время умирать, он позвал своего сына Юсуфа и сказал ему:

– Если я нашёл расположение в твоих глазах, положи руку мне под бедро^[c] и обещай, что явишь мне милость и верность. Не хорони меня в Египте,

but when I rest with my fathers, carry me out of Egypt and bury me where they are buried.”

“I will do as you say,” he said.

но когда я сойду к моим отцам, вынеси меня из Египта и похорони там, где похоронены они.

Юсуф ответил:

– Я сделаю так, как ты говоришь.

“Swear to me,” he said. Then Joseph swore to him, and Israel worshiped as he leaned on the top of his staff.^[d]

– Поклянись, – сказал он.

Юсуф поклялся ему, и Исраил поклонился, оперевшись на свой посох^[d].
