Genesis 32

^[a]Jacob also went on his way, and the angels of God met him.

Якуб продолжил свой путь, и ангелы Аллаха встретили его.

When Jacob saw them, he said, “This is the camp of God!” So he named that place Mahanaim.^[b]

Когда Якуб увидел их, он сказал:

– Это стан Аллаха! – и назвал то место Маханаим («два стана»).

Jacob sent messengers ahead of him to his brother Esau in the land of Seir, the country of Edom.

Якуб послал впереди себя вестников к своему брату Есаву в землю Сеир, страну Эдом.

He instructed them: “This is what you are to say to my lord Esau: ‘Your servant Jacob says, I have been staying with Laban and have remained there till now.

Он дал им такой наказ:

– Скажите моему господину Есаву так: «Твой раб Якуб говорит: Я жил у Лавана и был там до сего дня.

I have cattle and donkeys, sheep and goats, male and female servants. Now I am sending this message to my lord, that I may find favor in your eyes.’”

У меня есть быки, ослы, овцы и козы, слуги и служанки. Я посылаю эту весть моему господину, чтобы найти милость в твоих глазах».

When the messengers returned to Jacob, they said, “We went to your brother Esau, and now he is coming to meet you, and four hundred men are with him.”

Посланцы вернулись и сказали Якубу:

– Мы были у твоего брата Есава, и теперь он сам идёт тебе навстречу, и с ним четыреста человек.

In great fear and distress Jacob divided the people who were with him into two groups,^[c] and the flocks and herds and camels as well.

В великом страхе и смятении Якуб разделил людей, которые были с ним, а также стада крупного и мелкого скота и верблюдов.

He thought, “If Esau comes and attacks one group,^[d] the group^[e] that is left may escape.”

Он думал: «Если Есав нападёт на одну половину, то другая уцелеет и спасётся».

Then Jacob prayed, “O God of my father Abraham, God of my father Isaac, Lord, you who said to me, ‘Go back to your country and your relatives, and I will make you prosper,’

Якуб взмолился:

– О Вечный, Бог моих предков Ибрахима и Исхака, сказавший мне: «Вернись в твою землю, к твоим родственникам, и Я дам тебе процветание»,

I am unworthy of all the kindness and faithfulness you have shown your servant. I had only my staff when I crossed this Jordan, but now I have become two camps.

я недостоин той милости и верности, которые Ты явил Твоему рабу. У меня ничего не было, кроме посоха, когда я перешёл реку Иордан, а теперь я возвращаюсь двумя станами.

Save me, I pray, from the hand of my brother Esau, for I am afraid he will come and attack me, and also the mothers with their children.

Молю Тебя, спаси меня от руки моего брата Есава, потому что я боюсь, что он придёт и нападёт на меня и на матерей с детьми.

But you have said, ‘I will surely make you prosper and will make your descendants like the sand of the sea, which cannot be counted.’”

Ведь Ты сказал: «Я непременно дам тебе процветание и сделаю потомство твоё многочисленным, как морской песок, который не сосчитать».

He spent the night there, and from what he had with him he selected a gift for his brother Esau:

Он провёл там ночь, и из того, что у него было, выбрал подарок для своего брата Есава:

two hundred female goats and twenty male goats, two hundred ewes and twenty rams,

двести коз и двадцать козлов, двести овец и двадцать баранов,

thirty female camels with their young, forty cows and ten bulls, and twenty female donkeys and ten male donkeys.

тридцать верблюдиц с верблюжатами, сорок коров и десять быков, двадцать ослиц и десять ослов.

He put them in the care of his servants, each herd by itself, and said to his servants, “Go ahead of me, and keep some space between the herds.”

Он поручил их слугам, каждое стадо особо, и сказал им:

– Идите впереди меня и держите между стадами некоторое расстояние.

He instructed the one in the lead: “When my brother Esau meets you and asks, ‘Who do you belong to, and where are you going, and who owns all these animals in front of you?’

Он научил того, кто шёл первым:

– Когда мой брат Есав встретит тебя и спросит: «Чей ты? Куда идёшь? Чей скот ты гонишь?» –

then you are to say, ‘They belong to your servant Jacob. They are a gift sent to my lord Esau, and he is coming behind us.’”

тогда ты скажи: «Скот твоего раба Якуба. Это подарок от него моему господину Есаву, а сам он идёт за нами».

He also instructed the second, the third and all the others who followed the herds: “You are to say the same thing to Esau when you meet him.

Он научил и второго, и третьего, и всех других, шедших за стадами:

– И вы так же скажете Есаву, когда он вас встретит.

And be sure to say, ‘Your servant Jacob is coming behind us.’” For he thought, “I will pacify him with these gifts I am sending on ahead; later, when I see him, perhaps he will receive me.”

И ещё скажите: «Твой раб Якуб идёт позади нас».

Потому что он думал: «Я умиротворю его этими дарами, которые посылаю впереди себя, а потом, когда мы встретимся, он, быть может, примет меня».

So Jacob’s gifts went on ahead of him, but he himself spent the night in the camp.

Jacob Wrestles With God

Так дары Якуба были отправлены вперёд, а сам он провёл ночь в лагере.

Якуб получает имя Исраил

That night Jacob got up and took his two wives, his two female servants and his eleven sons and crossed the ford of the Jabbok.

Той ночью Якуб встал и взял двух своих жён, двух служанок и одиннадцать сыновей, и вброд перешёл через реку Иаббок.

After he had sent them across the stream, he sent over all his possessions.

Он перевёл их через поток и переправил всё своё добро.

So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak.

И вот Якуб остался один, и Некто боролся с ним до самой зари.

When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob’s hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man.

Увидев, что не может пересилить, Он коснулся сустава бедра Якуба, так что бедро было вывихнуто, когда он боролся с Ним.

Then the man said, “Let me go, for it is daybreak.”

But Jacob replied, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.”

И Он сказал:

– Отпусти Меня, потому что встаёт солнце.

Но Якуб ответил:

– Не отпущу, пока не благословишь меня.

The man asked him, “What is your name?”

“Jacob,” he answered.

Он спросил:

– Как твоё имя?

– Якуб, – ответил он.

Then the man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel,^[f] because you have struggled with God and with humans and have overcome.”

Тогда Он сказал:

– Отныне твоё имя будет не Якуб^[a], а Исраил («борющийся со Всевышним», «Всевышний борется»), потому что ты боролся со Всевышним и людьми и победил.

Jacob said, “Please tell me your name.”

But he replied, “Why do you ask my name?” Then he blessed him there.

Якуб сказал:

– Прошу Тебя, скажи мне Твоё имя.

Но Он ответил:

– Зачем ты спрашиваешь Моё имя?

И Он благословил его.

So Jacob called the place Peniel,^[g] saying, “It is because I saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared.”

Якуб назвал то место Пениил («лицо Всевышнего»), сказав: «Это, потому что я видел Аллаха лицом к лицу и остался жив».

The sun rose above him as he passed Peniel,^[h] and he was limping because of his hip.

Солнце встало над ним, когда он проходил Пениил, хромая из-за своего бедра.

Therefore to this day the Israelites do not eat the tendon attached to the socket of the hip, because the socket of Jacob’s hip was touched near the tendon.

Вот почему до сего дня исраильтяне не едят сухожилия на суставе бедра: ведь Он коснулся сустава бедра Якуба рядом с сухожилием.
