Deuteronomy 4

Now, Israel, hear the decrees and laws I am about to teach you. Follow them so that you may live and may go in and take possession of the land the Lord, the God of your ancestors, is giving you.

Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the Lord your God that I give you.

You saw with your own eyes what the Lord did at Baal Peor. The Lord your God destroyed from among you everyone who followed the Baal of Peor,

Вы своими глазами видели всё, что Вечный сделал в Баал-Пеоре. Вечный, ваш Бог, истребил среди вас всех, кто поклонялся идолу Баал-Пеору,

but all of you who held fast to the Lord your God are still alive today.

но все те, кто остались верны Вечному, вашему Богу, по-прежнему живы и сегодня.^[a]

See, I have taught you decrees and laws as the Lord my God commanded me, so that you may follow them in the land you are entering to take possession of it.

Смотрите, я научил вас установлениям и законам, как и повелел мне Вечный, мой Бог, чтобы вы следовали им в земле, куда вы вступаете, чтобы завладеть ею.

Observe them carefully, for this will show your wisdom and understanding to the nations, who will hear about all these decrees and say, “Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.”

Соблюдайте их тщательно, чтобы доказать свою мудрость и рассудительность народам, которые услышат об этих установлениях и скажут: «Конечно, это великий народ, мудрый и разумный».

What other nation is so great as to have their gods near them the way the Lord our God is near us whenever we pray to him?

Какой ещё народ столь велик, что его боги были близки к нему так, как Вечный, наш Бог, близок к нам, когда бы мы ни молились Ему?

And what other nation is so great as to have such righteous decrees and laws as this body of laws I am setting before you today?

И какой ещё народ столь велик, что у него были такие же справедливые установления и законы, как те, которые я даю вам сегодня?

Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them.

Только будьте осторожны и внимательно следите за собой, чтобы не забыть то, что видели ваши глаза, и не дать ускользнуть воспоминаниям из вашего сердца, пока вы живы. Рассказывайте об этом своим детям и детям их детей.

Remember the day you stood before the Lord your God at Horeb, when he said to me, “Assemble the people before me to hear my words so that they may learn to revere me as long as they live in the land and may teach them to their children.”

Помните тот день, когда вы стояли перед Вечным, вашим Богом, у горы Синай^[b] и когда Он сказал мне: «Собери народ предо Мною, Я возвещу им Свои слова, чтобы они научились чтить Меня всю свою жизнь на земле и научили этому своих детей».

You came near and stood at the foot of the mountain while it blazed with fire to the very heavens, with black clouds and deep darkness.

Вы приблизились и встали у подножия горы, которая пылала огнём до самых небес, покрытых чёрными тучами и кромешной тьмой.

Then the Lord spoke to you out of the fire. You heard the sound of words but saw no form; there was only a voice.

Тогда Вечный заговорил с вами из пламени. Вы слышали слова, но не видели образа – только Его голос был слышен.

He declared to you his covenant, the Ten Commandments, which he commanded you to follow and then wrote them on two stone tablets.

Он объявил вам Своё священное соглашение, десять повелений^[c], которым Он повелел вам следовать, и написал их на двух каменных плитках.

And the Lord directed me at that time to teach you the decrees and laws you are to follow in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess.

Idolatry Forbidden

В то время Вечный повелел мне научить вас установлениям и законам, которые вы должны соблюдать в земле, куда вы вступаете, чтобы завладеть ею.

You saw no form of any kind the day the Lord spoke to you at Horeb out of the fire. Therefore watch yourselves very carefully,

Итак, твёрдо помните, что вы не видели никакого образа в тот день, когда Вечный говорил с вами у горы Синай из огня,

so that you do not become corrupt and make for yourselves an idol, an image of any shape, whether formed like a man or a woman,

чтобы не развратиться и не сделать себе идола – образ в какой-либо форме, изображающий мужчину или женщину.

or like any animal on earth or any bird that flies in the air,

Или какое-либо животное на земле, какую-нибудь птицу, летающую под небесами,

or like any creature that moves along the ground or any fish in the waters below.

какое-нибудь пресмыкающееся по земле, или рыбу в водах.

And when you look up to the sky and see the sun, the moon and the stars—all the heavenly array—do not be enticed into bowing down to them and worshiping things the Lord your God has apportioned to all the nations under heaven.

А когда вы посмотрите на небо и увидите солнце, луну и звёзды – всё небесное многообразие, то не соблазняйтесь: не поклоняйтесь и не служите тому, что Вечный, ваш Бог, уделил всем народам под небом.

But as for you, the Lord took you and brought you out of the iron-smelting furnace, out of Egypt, to be the people of his inheritance, as you now are.

Но что до вас – Вечный взял вас и вынес из плавильной печи, из Египта, чтобы вы были народом Его наследия, как сейчас.

The Lord was angry with me because of you, and he solemnly swore that I would not cross the Jordan and enter the good land the Lord your God is giving you as your inheritance.

Вечный разгневался на меня из-за вас и поклялся, что я не перейду через Иордан и не войду в благодатную землю, которую Вечный, ваш Бог, даёт вам в наследие.

I will die in this land; I will not cross the Jordan; but you are about to cross over and take possession of that good land.

Я умру в этой земле; я не перейду через Иордан, но вы перейдёте и завладеете благодатной землёй.

Be careful not to forget the covenant of the Lord your God that he made with you; do not make for yourselves an idol in the form of anything the Lord your God has forbidden.

Берегитесь, чтобы не забыть священное соглашение Вечного, вашего Бога, которое Он заключил с вами. Не делайте себе идола ни в какой форме, как запретил вам Вечный, ваш Бог.

For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.

Ведь Вечный, ваш Бог, – это пожирающий огонь, Он – ревнивый Бог.

After you have had children and grandchildren and have lived in the land a long time—if you then become corrupt and make any kind of idol, doing evil in the eyes of the Lord your God and arousing his anger,

У вас появятся дети и внуки, вы проживёте на земле долгое время, но если потом вы развратитесь и сделаете какого-нибудь идола, совершая зло в глазах Вечного, вашего Бога, и вызывая Его гнев, –

I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you this day that you will quickly perish from the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess. You will not live there long but will certainly be destroyed.

я призываю сегодня в свидетели против вас небо и землю, – вы будете скоро истреблены из земли, куда вы переходите через Иордан, чтобы завладеть ею. Вы не долго проживёте там, и непременно будете уничтожены.

The Lord will scatter you among the peoples, and only a few of you will survive among the nations to which the Lord will drive you.

Вечный рассеет вас между народами, и лишь немногие выживут среди народов, к которым Вечный прогонит вас.

There you will worship man-made gods of wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or eat or smell.

Там вы будете служить богам, сделанным человеком из дерева и камня, которые не могут ни видеть, ни слышать, ни есть, ни чуять запах.

But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.

Но там-то вы и начнёте искать Вечного, вашего Бога, и найдёте Его, если будете искать всем сердцем и всей душой.

When you are in distress and all these things have happened to you, then in later days you will return to the Lord your God and obey him.

Когда вас постигнет скорбь, и всё это случится с вами, вы вернётесь к Вечному, вашему Богу, и будете слушаться Его.

For the Lord your God is a merciful God; he will not abandon or destroy you or forget the covenant with your ancestors, which he confirmed to them by oath.

The Lord Is God

Ведь Вечный, ваш Бог, – это милостивый Бог; Он не оставит и не погубит вас и не забудет священное соглашение с вашими предками, которое Он скрепил клятвой.

Вечный – единственный Бог

Ask now about the former days, long before your time, from the day God created human beings on the earth; ask from one end of the heavens to the other. Has anything so great as this ever happened, or has anything like it ever been heard of?

Спросите о прежних днях, которые были задолго до вас, с того дня, когда Аллах сотворил на земле человека; спросите от края до края небес. Случалось ли что-нибудь подобное этому великому делу, и разве слышали когда-нибудь о чём-то подобном?

Has any other people heard the voice of God^[a] speaking out of fire, as you have, and lived?

Разве слышал какой-нибудь другой народ голос Бога, говорящего из огня, как слышали вы, и остался жив?

Has any god ever tried to take for himself one nation out of another nation, by testings, by signs and wonders, by war, by a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, or by great and awesome deeds, like all the things the Lord your God did for you in Egypt before your very eyes?

Разве когда-нибудь пробовал какой-нибудь бог взять себе народ из другого народа – испытаниями, знамениями и чудесами, войной, могучей и простёртой рукой, великими и ужасными подвигами, как сделал это для вас Вечный, ваш Бог, в Египте у вас на глазах?

You were shown these things so that you might know that the Lord is God; besides him there is no other.

Вам было явлено это, чтобы вы знали, что Вечный – это Бог, и нет другого Бога, кроме Него.

From heaven he made you hear his voice to discipline you. On earth he showed you his great fire, and you heard his words from out of the fire.

Он дал вам услышать Свой голос с неба, чтобы наставить вас. На земле Он показал вам Свой великий огонь, и вы слышали Его слова из огня.

Because he loved your ancestors and chose their descendants after them, he brought you out of Egypt by his Presence and his great strength,

Он полюбил ваших предков и избрал их потомков, Он Сам вывел вас из Египта^[d] Своей великой силой,

to drive out before you nations greater and stronger than you and to bring you into their land to give it to you for your inheritance, as it is today.

чтобы прогнать от вас народы, которые многочисленнее и сильнее, и привести вас в их землю, отдав её вам в наследие, как это и есть сегодня.

Acknowledge and take to heart this day that the Lord is God in heaven above and on the earth below. There is no other.

Знайте ныне и запомните навсегда, что Вечный – это Бог на небе и на земле, и нет другого.

Keep his decrees and commands, which I am giving you today, so that it may go well with you and your children after you and that you may live long in the land the Lord your God gives you for all time.

Cities of Refuge

Исполняйте Его установления и повеления, которые я даю вам сегодня, чтобы с вами и с вашими детьми всё было благополучно, и чтобы вы долго жили на земле, которую Вечный, ваш Бог, даёт вам навсегда.

Города-убежища

Then Moses set aside three cities east of the Jordan,

Затем Муса отделил к востоку от Иордана три города,

to which anyone who had killed a person could flee if they had unintentionally killed a neighbor without malice aforethought. They could flee into one of these cities and save their life.

куда мог убежать всякий, кто убьёт человека неумышленно, не питая к убитому ненависти. Он мог убежать в один из этих городов и тем спасти свою жизнь.

The cities were these: Bezer in the wilderness plateau, for the Reubenites; Ramoth in Gilead, for the Gadites; and Golan in Bashan, for the Manassites.

Introduction to the Law

Вот эти города: Бецер на пустынном плато для рувимитов; Рамот в Галааде для гадитов; Голан в Башане для манасситов.

This is the law Moses set before the Israelites.

These are the stipulations, decrees and laws Moses gave them when they came out of Egypt

and were in the valley near Beth Peor east of the Jordan, in the land of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon and was defeated by Moses and the Israelites as they came out of Egypt.

и находились в долине рядом с Бет-Пеором к востоку от Иордана, в земле Сигона, царя аморреев, который правил в Хешбоне и был побеждён Мусой и исраильтянами, когда они вышли из Египта.

They took possession of his land and the land of Og king of Bashan, the two Amorite kings east of the Jordan.

Они завладели его землёй и землёй Ога, царя Башана, двух аморрейских царей, к востоку от Иордана.

This land extended from Aroer on the rim of the Arnon Gorge to Mount Sirion^[b] (that is, Hermon),

and included all the Arabah east of the Jordan, as far as the Dead Sea,^[c] below the slopes of Pisgah.
