^[a]The Lord said to Moses,

Вечный сказал Мусе:

“Speak to the Israelites and get twelve staffs from them, one from the leader of each of their ancestral tribes. Write the name of each man on his staff.

– Поговори с исраильтянами и возьми двенадцать жезлов у вождей, по одному от каждого рода. Напиши имя каждого человека на его жезле,

On the staff of Levi write Aaron’s name, for there must be one staff for the head of each ancestral tribe.

а на жезле Леви напиши имя Харуна. На каждого из вождей рода должно быть по жезлу.

Place them in the tent of meeting in front of the ark of the covenant law, where I meet with you.

Положи их в шатре встречи перед сундуком соглашения, где Я встречаюсь с тобой.

The staff belonging to the man I choose will sprout, and I will rid myself of this constant grumbling against you by the Israelites.”

Жезл Моего избранника даст ростки, и Я прекращу нескончаемый ропот исраильтян на вас.

So Moses spoke to the Israelites, and their leaders gave him twelve staffs, one for the leader of each of their ancestral tribes, and Aaron’s staff was among them.

Муса поговорил с исраильтянами, и их вожди дали ему двенадцать жезлов – по жезлу на каждый род. Среди них был и жезл Харуна.

Moses placed the staffs before the Lord in the tent of the covenant law.

Муса положил жезлы перед Вечным в шатре соглашения.

The next day Moses entered the tent and saw that Aaron’s staff, which represented the tribe of Levi, had not only sprouted but had budded, blossomed and produced almonds.

На другой день Муса вошёл в шатёр соглашения и увидел, что жезл Харуна, который представлял дом Леви, не только дал ростки, но и выпустил почки, расцвёл и принёс миндаль.

Then Moses brought out all the staffs from the Lord’s presence to all the Israelites. They looked at them, and each of the leaders took his own staff.

Тогда Муса вынес все жезлы от Вечного к исраильтянам. Они осмотрели их, и каждый взял свой жезл.

The Lord said to Moses, “Put back Aaron’s staff in front of the ark of the covenant law, to be kept as a sign to the rebellious. This will put an end to their grumbling against me, so that they will not die.”

Вечный сказал Мусе:

– Положи жезл Харуна обратно перед сундуком соглашения. Пусть он хранится как память непокорным. Пусть это положит конец их ропоту на Меня, чтобы им не умереть.

Moses did just as the Lord commanded him.

Муса сделал точно так, как повелел ему Вечный.

The Israelites said to Moses, “We will die! We are lost, we are all lost!

Исраильтяне сказали Мусе:

– Мы погибаем! Мы пропали, мы все пропали!

Anyone who even comes near the tabernacle of the Lord will die. Are we all going to die?”

Любой, кто даже приблизится к священному шатру Вечного, умрёт. Неужели мы все погибнем?
