Luke 14

One Sabbath, when Jesus went to eat in the house of a prominent Pharisee, he was being carefully watched.

There in front of him was a man suffering from abnormal swelling of his body.

Напротив Исы сидел человек, больной водянкой.

Jesus asked the Pharisees and experts in the law, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or not?”

Иса спросил учителей Таурата и блюстителей Закона:

– Разрешено исцелять в субботу или нет?

But they remained silent. So taking hold of the man, he healed him and sent him on his way.

Они молчали. Тогда Иса, коснувшись человека, исцелил его и отпустил.

Then he asked them, “If one of you has a child^[a] or an ox that falls into a well on the Sabbath day, will you not immediately pull it out?”

Затем Он сказал им:

– Если у кого-то из вас сын или вол упадёт в колодец, разве вы не вытащите его немедленно, даже если это будет в субботу?

And they had nothing to say.

Им нечего было ответить на это.

Притча о почётных местах на пиру

When he noticed how the guests picked the places of honor at the table, he told them this parable:

Иса заметил, как гости выбирали почётные места за столом, и рассказал им притчу:

“When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for a person more distinguished than you may have been invited.

– Когда тебя приглашают на свадебный пир, не садись на почётное место, ведь может случиться так, что среди приглашённых окажется кто-то знатнее тебя,

If so, the host who invited both of you will come and say to you, ‘Give this person your seat.’ Then, humiliated, you will have to take the least important place.

и тогда хозяин, пригласивший и тебя, и его, подойдёт к тебе и скажет: «Уступи место этому человеку». И тебе придётся со стыдом занять самое последнее место.

But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you, ‘Friend, move up to a better place.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all the other guests.

Итак, когда тебя пригласили, пойди и возляг на самое последнее место, чтобы хозяин подошёл к тебе и сказал: «Друг, перейди на лучшее место». Тогда тебе будет оказан почёт перед всеми возлежащими за столом гостями.

For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

Так что каждый возвышающий себя будет унижен, и каждый принижающий себя будет возвышен.

Then Jesus said to his host, “When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or sisters, your relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid.

Затем Иса сказал хозяину:

– Когда ты устраиваешь званый обед или ужин, то не приглашай своих друзей, братьев, родственников или богатых соседей, чтобы они не пригласили тебя в ответ и тем не отплатили тебе.

But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind,

Когда ты устраиваешь пир, приглашай на него бедных, калек, хромых, слепых.

and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”

Вот тогда ты будешь благословен, потому что они не смогут отблагодарить тебя, и ты получишь награду в воскресение праведных.

Притча о приглашённых на пир

When one of those at the table with him heard this, he said to Jesus, “Blessed is the one who will eat at the feast in the kingdom of God.”

Когда один из возлежавших услышал это, он сказал Исе:

– Благословен тот, кто будет пировать в Царстве Всевышнего.

Jesus replied: “A certain man was preparing a great banquet and invited many guests.

Иса ответил ему:

– Один человек приготовил большой пир и пригласил много гостей.

At the time of the banquet he sent his servant to tell those who had been invited, ‘Come, for everything is now ready.’

Когда подошло время пира, он послал своего раба сказать приглашённым: «Приходите, уже всё готово».

“But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said, ‘I have just bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please excuse me.’

Но один за другим приглашённые начали извиняться. Первый сказал: «Я только что купил землю и мне надо пойти и посмотреть её. Извини меня, пожалуйста».

“Another said, ‘I have just bought five yoke of oxen, and I’m on my way to try them out. Please excuse me.’

Другой сказал: «Я купил пять пар волов и иду испытать их, извини меня, пожалуйста».

“Still another said, ‘I just got married, so I can’t come.’

Третий сказал: «Я только что женился и поэтому не могу прийти».

“The servant came back and reported this to his master. Then the owner of the house became angry and ordered his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame.’

Раб вернулся и рассказал всё хозяину. Тогда хозяин дома рассердился и приказал рабу: «Пойди скорее по улицам и переулкам города и приведи сюда бедных, калек, слепых и хромых».

“‘Sir,’ the servant said, ‘what you ordered has been done, but there is still room.’

«Господин, – сказал раб, – то, что ты повелел, выполнено, но ещё есть место».

“Then the master told his servant, ‘Go out to the roads and country lanes and compel them to come in, so that my house will be full.

Тогда хозяин сказал рабу: «Пройди по дорогам и вдоль изгородей и уговори всех, кого встретишь, прийти на пир, чтобы дом мой был полон гостей.

I tell you, not one of those who were invited will get a taste of my banquet.’”

The Cost of Being a Disciple

Говорю вам, что из прежних приглашённых никто не попробует моего обеда».

Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said:

С Исой шло множество людей, и Он, повернувшись к ним, сказал:

“If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple.

– Если тот, кто приходит ко Мне, не любит Меня больше, чем своего отца, мать, жену, детей, братьев, сестёр, и даже свою собственную жизнь, он не может быть Моим учеником.

And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.

Тот, кто не уподобится человеку, который несёт крест на место своего распятия, и не идёт за Мной, не может быть Моим учеником.

“Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it?

Предположим, кто-то из вас хочет строить башню. Разве он не сядет вначале и не подсчитает все расходы, чтобы знать, хватит ли ему денег для завершения строительства?

For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you,

Ведь если он заложит фундамент и будет не в состоянии закончить постройку, то все видящие это будут над ним смеяться:

saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’

«Начал строить, а закончить не можешь».

“Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Won’t he first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand?

Или, предположим, царь собирается на войну против другого царя. Разве он не сядет вначале и не подумает, в силах ли он с войском в десять тысяч человек отразить того, кто идёт на него с войском в двадцать тысяч?

If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace.

Если нет, то пока противник ещё далеко, он пошлёт посольство просить о мире.

In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples.

Итак, тот из вас, кто не отречётся от всего, что имеет, не может быть Моим учеником.

“Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?

– Соль – хорошая вещь, но если соль потеряет свой вкус, то что может опять сделать её солёной?

It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile; it is thrown out.

“Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”

Даже навоз годится для удобрения земли, но соль, потерявшая вкус, ни на что не годна,^[a] её остаётся лишь выбросить вон. У кого есть уши, чтобы слышать, пусть слышит!
