Joshua 2

Then Joshua son of Nun secretly sent two spies from Shittim. “Go, look over the land,” he said, “especially Jericho.” So they went and entered the house of a prostitute named Rahab and stayed there.

Иешуа, сын Нуна, тайно послал из лагеря, расположенного в Шиттиме, двух лазутчиков.

– Пойдите, осмотрите эту землю, – сказал он, – особенно Иерихон.

Они отправились и пришли в дом блудницы, которую звали Рахав, и остались там ночевать.

The king of Jericho was told, “Look, some of the Israelites have come here tonight to spy out the land.”

Царю Иерихона донесли:

– Какие-то исраильтяне пришли сюда вечером, чтобы разведать эту землю.

So the king of Jericho sent this message to Rahab: “Bring out the men who came to you and entered your house, because they have come to spy out the whole land.”

И царь Иерихона послал людей сказать Рахав: «Выведи людей, которые пришли к тебе домой, потому что они пришли, чтобы разведать эту землю».

But the woman had taken the two men and hidden them. She said, “Yes, the men came to me, but I did not know where they had come from.

Но женщина спрятала тех двоих мужчин. Она сказала:

– Да, ко мне приходили эти люди, но я не знала, откуда они.

At dusk, when it was time to close the city gate, they left. I don’t know which way they went. Go after them quickly. You may catch up with them.”

В сумерки, когда наступило время запирать городские ворота, эти люди ушли. Я не знаю, куда они пошли. Поспешите вслед за ними, и вы сможете их догнать.

(But she had taken them up to the roof and hidden them under the stalks of flax she had laid out on the roof.)

(А она отвела их на крышу и спрятала среди разложенных там снопов льна.)

So the men set out in pursuit of the spies on the road that leads to the fords of the Jordan, and as soon as the pursuers had gone out, the gate was shut.

Преследователи бросились в погоню за лазутчиками по дороге, что ведёт к бродам на Иордане, и, как только они вышли, ворота заперли.

Before the spies lay down for the night, she went up on the roof

Прежде чем лазутчики легли спать, Рахав поднялась к ним на крышу

and said to them, “I know that the Lord has given you this land and that a great fear of you has fallen on us, so that all who live in this country are melting in fear because of you.

и сказала:

– Я знаю, что Вечный отдал эту землю вам, и великий страх перед вами охватил нас. Всех жителей этой страны охватил ужас перед вами.

We have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea^[a] for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to Sihon and Og, the two kings of the Amorites east of the Jordan, whom you completely destroyed.^[b]

Мы слышали о том, что Вечный осушил ради вас воды Тростникового моря^[a], когда вы вышли из Египта, и о том, что вы сделали с Сигоном и Огом, двумя царями аморреев к востоку от Иордана, которых вы полностью истребили.

When we heard of it, our hearts melted in fear and everyone’s courage failed because of you, for the Lord your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below.

Когда мы услышали об этом, наши сердца обессилели и каждый пал духом из-за вас, потому что Вечный, ваш Бог, – это Бог на небе вверху и на земле внизу.

“Now then, please swear to me by the Lord that you will show kindness to my family, because I have shown kindness to you. Give me a sure sign

Итак, пожалуйста, поклянитесь мне Вечным, что вы проявите милость к моей семье, как я проявила милость к вам. Дайте верный знак,

that you will spare the lives of my father and mother, my brothers and sisters, and all who belong to them—and that you will save us from death.”

что вы сохраните жизнь моему отцу и матери, моим братьям и сёстрам, и всем их семьям, и что вы спасёте нас от смерти.

“Our lives for your lives!” the men assured her. “If you don’t tell what we are doing, we will treat you kindly and faithfully when the Lord gives us the land.”

– Наши жизни за ваши жизни! – заверили её лазутчики. – Если ты не выдашь нас, мы проявим к тебе милость и верность, когда Вечный даст нам эту землю.

So she let them down by a rope through the window, for the house she lived in was part of the city wall.

И она помогла им спуститься вниз по верёвке через окно, так как дом, где она жила, находился в городской стене.

She said to them, “Go to the hills so the pursuers will not find you. Hide yourselves there three days until they return, and then go on your way.”

Она сказала им:

– Идите к холмам, чтобы преследователи вас не нашли. Спрячьтесь там на три дня, пока они не вернутся, а потом идите своим путём.

Now the men had said to her, “This oath you made us swear will not be binding on us

Лазутчики сказали ей:

– Мы будем свободны от клятвы, которую ты с нас взяла,

unless, when we enter the land, you have tied this scarlet cord in the window through which you let us down, and unless you have brought your father and mother, your brothers and all your family into your house.

если, когда мы войдём в эту землю, ты не привяжешь этот алый шнур к окну, через которое ты нас спустила, и если ты не приведёшь твоих отца и мать, твоих братьев и всю свою семью в твой дом.

If any of them go outside your house into the street, their blood will be on their own heads; we will not be responsible. As for those who are in the house with you, their blood will be on our head if a hand is laid on them.

Если кто-нибудь выйдет из твоего дома на улицу, он сам будет повинен в своей смерти. Мы не будем за это в ответе. Но в смерти любого, кто будет у тебя в доме, мы будем повинны, если на него поднимут руку.

But if you tell what we are doing, we will be released from the oath you made us swear.”

Но если ты выдашь нас, мы будем свободны от клятвы, которую ты с нас взяла.

“Agreed,” she replied. “Let it be as you say.”

So she sent them away, and they departed. And she tied the scarlet cord in the window.

– Хорошо, – ответила она, – пусть будет так, как вы сказали.

Она отпустила их и привязала к окну алый шнур.

When they left, they went into the hills and stayed there three days, until the pursuers had searched all along the road and returned without finding them.

Они ушли, отправившись к холмам, и оставались там три дня, пока преследователи, обыскав всю дорогу, не вернулись, так и не найдя их.

Then the two men started back. They went down out of the hills, forded the river and came to Joshua son of Nun and told him everything that had happened to them.

После этого те двое мужчин отправились в обратный путь. Они спустились с холмов, перешли вброд реку, пришли к Иешуа, сыну Нуна, и рассказали ему обо всём, что с ними произошло.

They said to Joshua, “The Lord has surely given the whole land into our hands; all the people are melting in fear because of us.”

Они сказали Иешуа:

– Вечный, несомненно, отдал всю эту землю в наши руки. Все её жители охвачены ужасом перед нами.
