Verse 1

The word of the Lord came to me:

И сказал мне Вечный:

Verse 2

“Go and proclaim in the hearing of Jerusalem:

“This is what the Lord says:

“‘I remember the devotion of your youth,
how as a bride you loved me
and followed me through the wilderness,
through a land not sown.

– Иди и провозгласи во всеуслышание в Иерусалиме: Так говорит Вечный:

«Я вспоминаю, как преданна ты была в юности,
когда ты любила Меня, как невеста,
и шла за Мной по пустыне,
по земле незасеянной.

Verse 3

Israel was holy to the Lord,
the firstfruits of his harvest;
all who devoured her were held guilty,
and disaster overtook them,’”
declares the Lord.

Исраил был святыней Вечного,
    первым плодом Его жатвы;
все, кто его поедал, были преданы осуждению,
    их постигала беда», –
        возвещает Вечный.

Verse 4

Hear the word of the Lord, you descendants of Jacob,
all you clans of Israel.

Слушайте слово Вечного, потомки Якуба,
все кланы Исраила.

Verse 5

This is what the Lord says:

“What fault did your ancestors find in me,
that they strayed so far from me?
They followed worthless idols
and became worthless themselves.

Так говорит Вечный:

– Какой грех нашли во Мне ваши отцы,
что так отдалились от Меня?
Они поклонялись ничтожным идолам
и сами стали ничтожными.

Verse 6

They did not ask, ‘Where is the Lord,
    who brought us up out of Egypt
and led us through the barren wilderness,
    through a land of deserts and ravines,
a land of drought and utter darkness,
    a land where no one travels and no one lives?’

Они не спрашивали: «Где Вечный,
    Который вывел нас из Египта,
провёл нас сквозь безлюдный край,
    по земле пустынь и расселин,
по земле засухи и кромешной тьмы,
    где никто не странствует,
    и никто не живёт?»

Verse 7

I brought you into a fertile land
to eat its fruit and rich produce.
But you came and defiled my land
and made my inheritance detestable.

Я привёл вас в плодородную землю,
чтобы вы ели её плоды и пользовались её благами.
Но вы пришли и осквернили Мою землю,
и в мерзость превратили Мой удел.

Verse 8

The priests did not ask,
    ‘Where is the Lord?’
Those who deal with the law did not know me;
    the leaders rebelled against me.
The prophets prophesied by Baal,
    following worthless idols.

Не спрашивали священнослужители:
    «Где Вечный?»
Учители Закона Меня не знали;
    вожди^[a] восстали против Меня.
Пророки возвещали от имени Баала^[b]
    и поклонялись ничтожным идолам.

Verse 9

“Therefore I bring charges against you again,”
declares the Lord.
“And I will bring charges against your children’s children.

Поэтому Я веду тяжбу с вами, –
возвещает Вечный, –
и с внуками вашими.

Verse 10

Cross over to the coasts of Cyprus and look,
send to Kedar^[a] and observe closely;
see if there has ever been anything like this:

Переправьтесь на побережье Кипра^[c] и взгляните,
пойдите в Кедар^[d] и разведайте тщательно;
посмотрите, бывало ли что-нибудь подобное,

Verse 11

Has a nation ever changed its gods?
(Yet they are not gods at all.)
But my people have exchanged their glorious God
for worthless idols.

менял ли какой народ своих богов?
(Хоть они и не боги вовсе.)
А Мой народ променял Меня, их Славу^[e],
на ничтожных идолов.

Verse 12

Be appalled at this, you heavens,
and shudder with great horror,”
declares the Lord.

Поразитесь этому, небеса,
содрогнитесь от ужаса, –
возвещает Вечный. –

Verse 13

“My people have committed two sins:
They have forsaken me,
the spring of living water,
and have dug their own cisterns,
broken cisterns that cannot hold water.

Два греха совершил Мой народ:
оставил Меня – источник живой воды,
и вытесал себе водоёмы,
разбитые водоёмы, которые не могут хранить воду.

Verse 14

Is Israel a servant, a slave by birth?
Why then has he become plunder?

Разве Исраил слуга?
Разве он раб по рождению?
Почему же он стал наживой?

Verse 15

Lions have roared;
they have growled at him.
They have laid waste his land;
his towns are burned and deserted.

Львы взревели,
зарычали на него,
сделали его землю пустыней;
его города сожжены и покинуты жителями.

Verse 16

Also, the men of Memphis and Tahpanhes
have cracked your skull.

Египтяне из Мемфиса^[f] и Тахпанхеса
обгрызли твоё темя^[g].

Verse 17

Have you not brought this on yourselves
by forsaking the Lord your God
when he led you in the way?

Разве не ты сама навлекла это на себя,
оставив Вечного, своего Бога,
когда Он вёл тебя по дороге?

Verse 18

Now why go to Egypt
to drink water from the Nile^[b]?
And why go to Assyria
to drink water from the Euphrates?

А теперь что толку ходить в Египет,
чтобы пить воду из Нила^[h]?
Какой прок ходить в Ассирию,
чтобы пить воду из Евфрата?^[i]

Verse 19

Your wickedness will punish you;
    your backsliding will rebuke you.
Consider then and realize
    how evil and bitter it is for you
when you forsake the Lord your God
    and have no awe of me,”
declares the Lord, the Lord Almighty.

Твоё беззаконие накажет тебя,
    и твоё отступничество осудит.
Подумай же и посмотри,
    как плохо тебе и горько от того,
что оставила ты Вечного, своего Бога,
    и нет в тебе страха предо Мной, –
        возвещает Владыка Вечный, Повелитель Сил. –

Verse 20

“Long ago you broke off your yoke
    and tore off your bonds;
    you said, ‘I will not serve you!’
Indeed, on every high hill
    and under every spreading tree
    you lay down as a prostitute.

Давным-давно ты разбила своё ярмо
    и разорвала свои оковы,
    и сказала: «Не буду служить!»^[j]
На любом высоком холме
    и под каждым тенистым деревом
    ты распутствовала.^[k]

Verse 21

I had planted you like a choice vine
of sound and reliable stock.
How then did you turn against me
into a corrupt, wild vine?

Я посадил тебя благородной лозой
от самого чистого семени.
Как же превратилась ты у Меня
в пустоцвет и дикую лозу?

Verse 22

Although you wash yourself with soap
and use an abundance of cleansing powder,
the stain of your guilt is still before me,”
declares the Sovereign Lord.

Помоешься ли ты щёлоком,
    изведёшь ли много мыла,
    твои грехи всё равно передо Мной, –
        возвещает Владыка Вечный. –

Verse 23

“How can you say, ‘I am not defiled;
    I have not run after the Baals’?
See how you behaved in the valley;
    consider what you have done.
You are a swift she-camel
    running here and there,

Как ты можешь говорить: «Я не осквернилась,
    я не поклонялась статуям Баала»?
Посмотри, как вела ты себя в долине,
    подумай о том, что сделала.
Ты – норовистая верблюдица,
    мечущаяся из стороны в сторону,

Verse 24

a wild donkey accustomed to the desert,
    sniffing the wind in her craving—
    in her heat who can restrain her?
Any males that pursue her need not tire themselves;
    at mating time they will find her.

дикая ослица, выросшая в пустыне,
    задыхающаяся от страсти, –
    кто умерит её пыл?
Все, кто ищет её, без труда
    найдут её в пору случки.

Verse 25

Do not run until your feet are bare
    and your throat is dry.
But you said, ‘It’s no use!
    I love foreign gods,
    and I must go after them.’

Побереги свои ноги, чтобы не остаться разутой,
    и своё горло – чтобы не пересохло.
Но ты сказала: «Бесполезно!
    Я люблю чужих богов
    и буду бегать за ними».

Verse 26

“As a thief is disgraced when he is caught,
so the people of Israel are disgraced—
they, their kings and their officials,
their priests and their prophets.

Как вор опозорен, когда он пойман,
так будет опозорен и Исраил –
его народ, его цари, его вельможи,
его священнослужители и пророки.

Verse 27

They say to wood, ‘You are my father,’
    and to stone, ‘You gave me birth.’
They have turned their backs to me
    and not their faces;
yet when they are in trouble, they say,
    ‘Come and save us!’

Дереву они говорят: «Ты отец мой» –
    и камню: «Ты меня родил».
Они повернулись ко Мне спиной,
    отвратили лица свои,
а когда случается беда, они говорят:
    «Приди и спаси нас!»

Verse 28

Where then are the gods you made for yourselves?
    Let them come if they can save you
    when you are in trouble!
For you, Judah, have as many gods
    as you have towns.

А где же те боги, которых вы сделали себе?
    Пусть придут, если в силах спасти вас,
    когда случится беда!
Ведь богов у тебя, Иудея,
    столько же, сколько и городов.

Verse 29

“Why do you bring charges against me?
You have all rebelled against me,”
declares the Lord.

Почему вы хотите тягаться со Мной?
Все вы восстали против Меня, –
возвещает Вечный. –

Verse 30

“In vain I punished your people;
they did not respond to correction.
Your sword has devoured your prophets
like a ravenous lion.

Напрасно наказывал Я вас –
урока вы не усвоили.
Ваш меч пожрал ваших пророков,
точно лев-убийца.

Verse 31

“You of this generation, consider the word of the Lord:

“Have I been a desert to Israel
or a land of great darkness?
Why do my people say, ‘We are free to roam;
we will come to you no more’?

О нынешнее поколение, поразмысли над словом Вечного:

– Разве Я был пустыней Исраилу
    или краем кромешной тьмы?
Почему Мой народ говорит:
    «Мы свободны бродить;
    мы больше к Тебе не придём»?

Verse 32

Does a young woman forget her jewelry,
a bride her wedding ornaments?
Yet my people have forgotten me,
days without number.

Позабудет ли девушка украшения,
и невеста – свой свадебный наряд?
А Мой народ уже давно забыл Меня.

Verse 33

How skilled you are at pursuing love!
Even the worst of women can learn from your ways.

Как же умело ты домогаешься любви!
Даже блудницам есть чему у тебя поучиться.

Verse 34

On your clothes is found
the lifeblood of the innocent poor,
though you did not catch them breaking in.
Yet in spite of all this

Найдена на твоих одеждах
кровь невинных бедняков,
которых ты убила,
хотя и не застала, как воров, при взломе^[l].
Но, несмотря на всё это,

Verse 35

    you say, ‘I am innocent;
    he is not angry with me.’
But I will pass judgment on you
    because you say, ‘I have not sinned.’

    ты говоришь: «Я безвинна;
    Он на меня не гневается».
Я осуждаю тебя за то,
    что ты говоришь: «Я не согрешила».

Verse 36

Why do you go about so much,
changing your ways?
You will be disappointed by Egypt
as you were by Assyria.

Как легко тебе бродить,
меняя свой путь!
Ты будешь опозорена Египтом,
как была опозорена Ассирией.

Verse 37

You will also leave that place
with your hands on your head,
for the Lord has rejected those you trust;
you will not be helped by them.

И уйдёшь ты оттуда,
обхватив голову руками:
Вечный отверг тех, кому ты поверила,
и они тебе не помогут.
