Genesis 39

Now Joseph had been taken down to Egypt. Potiphar, an Egyptian who was one of Pharaoh’s officials, the captain of the guard, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him there.

Юсуфа привели в Египет, и египтянин Потифар, сановник фараона и начальник его стражи, купил Юсуфа у исмаильтян, которые его туда привели.

The Lord was with Joseph so that he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master.

Вечный был с Юсуфом, и он преуспевал, живя в доме у своего египетского господина.

When his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord gave him success in everything he did,

Его господин увидел, что Вечный с Юсуфом и что Он даёт ему успех во всём, что он делает.

Joseph found favor in his eyes and became his attendant. Potiphar put him in charge of his household, and he entrusted to his care everything he owned.

Юсуф нашёл расположение в его глазах и стал его личным слугой. Потифар поставил его над своим домом и доверил ему все свои владения.

From the time he put him in charge of his household and of all that he owned, the Lord blessed the household of the Egyptian because of Joseph. The blessing of the Lord was on everything Potiphar had, both in the house and in the field.

И с тех пор как он поставил его над своим домом и всеми владениями, Вечный благословил дом египтянина ради Юсуфа. Благословение Вечного было на всём, что было у Потифара, и в доме, и в поле.

So Potiphar left everything he had in Joseph’s care; with Joseph in charge, he did not concern himself with anything except the food he ate.

Now Joseph was well-built and handsome,

Поэтому он доверил Юсуфу всё, что у него было; благодаря Юсуфу он мог ни о чём не заботиться, кроме того, чтобы поесть.

Юсуф же был хорошо сложён и красив,

and after a while his master’s wife took notice of Joseph and said, “Come to bed with me!”

и через некоторое время жена его господина стала заглядываться на него и сказала:

– Ложись со мной!

But he refused. “With me in charge,” he told her, “my master does not concern himself with anything in the house; everything he owns he has entrusted to my care.

Но он отказался, сказав:

– При мне мой господин может ни о чём не заботиться в доме; всё, чем он владеет, он доверил мне.

No one is greater in this house than I am. My master has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?”

В этом доме я самый главный; мой господин не отказал мне ни в чём, кроме тебя, потому что ты – его жена. Как же я могу совершить такое великое зло и грех против Всевышнего?

And though she spoke to Joseph day after day, he refused to go to bed with her or even be with her.

И хотя она уговаривала его каждый день, он отказывался лечь с ней и даже быть с ней.

One day he went into the house to attend to his duties, and none of the household servants was inside.

Однажды он вошёл в дом по своим делам, когда никого из домашних не было в доме.

She caught him by his cloak and said, “Come to bed with me!” But he left his cloak in her hand and ran out of the house.

Она схватила его за одежду и сказала:

– Ложись со мной!

Но он вырвался и убежал, оставив верхнюю одежду у неё в руках.

When she saw that he had left his cloak in her hand and had run out of the house,

Увидев, что он убежал и оставил одежду у неё в руках,

she called her household servants. “Look,” she said to them, “this Hebrew has been brought to us to make sport of us! He came in here to sleep with me, but I screamed.

она позвала домашнюю прислугу и сказала им:

– Смотрите, этого еврея привели к нам в дом, а он оскорбляет нас! Он пришёл сюда и хотел лечь со мной, но я стала кричать,

When he heard me scream for help, he left his cloak beside me and ran out of the house.”

а он от моего крика оставил свою одежду и убежал.

She kept his cloak beside her until his master came home.

Она держала одежду Юсуфа у себя, пока не пришёл домой его хозяин.

Then she told him this story: “That Hebrew slave you brought us came to me to make sport of me.

Она рассказала ему ту же историю:

– Этот раб-еврей, которого ты к нам привёл, пришёл ко мне и хотел надо мной надругаться,

But as soon as I screamed for help, he left his cloak beside me and ran out of the house.”

но я стала кричать, и он, оставив у меня свою одежду, убежал.

Заключение Юсуфа в темницу

When his master heard the story his wife told him, saying, “This is how your slave treated me,” he burned with anger.

Когда его господин выслушал рассказ жены, которая сказала: «Вот как твой раб обошёлся со мной», он сильно разгневался.

Joseph’s master took him and put him in prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined.

But while Joseph was there in the prison,

Он взял Юсуфа и посадил его в темницу, где были заключены царские узники; и так Юсуф оказался в темнице.

the Lord was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden.

Но и там Вечный был с ним; Он явил ему милость и даровал ему расположение в глазах главного надзирателя.

So the warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in the prison, and he was made responsible for all that was done there.

Главный надзиратель поставил Юсуфа над всеми узниками, и он отвечал за все дела в темнице.

The warden paid no attention to anything under Joseph’s care, because the Lord was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did.

Главный надзиратель мог не заботиться о том, что было вверено Юсуфу, потому что Вечный был с Юсуфом и давал ему успех во всех делах.
