Genesis 29

Then Jacob continued on his journey and came to the land of the eastern peoples.

Якуб продолжил своё путешествие и пришёл в землю восточных народов.

There he saw a well in the open country, with three flocks of sheep lying near it because the flocks were watered from that well. The stone over the mouth of the well was large.

Там он увидел колодец в поле и возле него три отары овец, потому что из того колодца поили скот. Колодец был закрыт большим камнем.

When all the flocks were gathered there, the shepherds would roll the stone away from the well’s mouth and water the sheep. Then they would return the stone to its place over the mouth of the well.

Когда все отары собирались, пастухи отваливали камень от колодца и поили овец, а потом клали камень на прежнее место.

Jacob asked the shepherds, “My brothers, where are you from?”

“We’re from Harran,” they replied.

Якуб спросил пастухов:

– Братья, откуда вы?

– Мы из Харрана, – ответили они.

He said to them, “Do you know Laban, Nahor’s grandson?”

“Yes, we know him,” they answered.

Он сказал им:

– Знаете ли вы Лавана, внука Нахора?

– Да, знаем, – ответили они.

Then Jacob asked them, “Is he well?”

“Yes, he is,” they said, “and here comes his daughter Rachel with the sheep.”

Якуб спросил:

– Всё ли у него благополучно?

– Благополучно, – ответили они. – А вот и Рахиля, его дочь, идёт с овцами.

“Look,” he said, “the sun is still high; it is not time for the flocks to be gathered. Water the sheep and take them back to pasture.”

– Солнце ещё высоко, – сказал он, – ещё не время собирать отары. Напоите овец и гоните их обратно на пастбище.

“We can’t,” they replied, “until all the flocks are gathered and the stone has been rolled away from the mouth of the well. Then we will water the sheep.”

– Мы не можем, – ответили они, – пока не соберутся все отары, и камень не отвалят от колодца; тогда мы напоим овец.

While he was still talking with them, Rachel came with her father’s sheep, for she was a shepherd.

Он ещё разговаривал с ними, когда подошла Рахиля с овцами отца: она пасла овец.

When Jacob saw Rachel daughter of his uncle Laban, and Laban’s sheep, he went over and rolled the stone away from the mouth of the well and watered his uncle’s sheep.

Когда Якуб увидел Рахилю, дочь своего дяди Лавана, он подошёл, отвалил камень от колодца и напоил овец Лавана.

Then Jacob kissed Rachel and began to weep aloud.

Потом Якуб поцеловал Рахилю и, громко заплакав,

He had told Rachel that he was a relative of her father and a son of Rebekah. So she ran and told her father.

сказал Рахиле, что он родственник её отца и сын Рабиги; она побежала и рассказала об этом отцу.

As soon as Laban heard the news about Jacob, his sister’s son, he hurried to meet him. He embraced him and kissed him and brought him to his home, and there Jacob told him all these things.

Услышав о приходе своего племянника Якуба, Лаван выбежал навстречу, обнял его, поцеловал и привёл к себе в дом. Якуб рассказал ему обо всём,

Then Laban said to him, “You are my own flesh and blood.”

Jacob Marries Leah and Rachel

After Jacob had stayed with him for a whole month,

и Лаван сказал ему:

– Ты моя плоть и кровь.

История женитьбы Якуба

Когда Якуб прожил у него месяц,

Laban said to him, “Just because you are a relative of mine, should you work for me for nothing? Tell me what your wages should be.”

Лаван сказал ему:

– Хотя ты мне и родственник, почему ты должен работать на меня даром? Скажи мне, что тебе заплатить?

Now Laban had two daughters; the name of the older was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel.

А у Лавана были две дочери; старшую звали Лия, а младшую – Рахиля.

Leah had weak^[a] eyes, but Rachel had a lovely figure and was beautiful.

Лия была не так красива, как Рахиля, а Рахиля была стройна и хороша собой.

Jacob was in love with Rachel and said, “I’ll work for you seven years in return for your younger daughter Rachel.”

Якуб полюбил Рахилю, и он ответил:

– Я буду работать на тебя семь лет за твою младшую дочь Рахилю.

Laban said, “It’s better that I give her to you than to some other man. Stay here with me.”

Лаван сказал:

– Лучше я отдам её тебе, чем кому-то другому. Оставайся у меня.

So Jacob served seven years to get Rachel, but they seemed like only a few days to him because of his love for her.

Якуб служил семь лет, чтобы получить Рахилю, но они показались ему как несколько дней, потому что он любил её.

Then Jacob said to Laban, “Give me my wife. My time is completed, and I want to make love to her.”

Потом Якуб сказал Лавану:

– Дай мне мою жену, чтобы мне жить с ней: пришёл мой срок.

So Laban brought together all the people of the place and gave a feast.

Лаван созвал всех окрестных жителей и устроил пир.

But when evening came, he took his daughter Leah and brought her to Jacob, and Jacob made love to her.

Но когда настал вечер, он взял свою дочь Лию и дал её Якубу, и Якуб лёг с ней.

And Laban gave his servant Zilpah to his daughter as her attendant.

Лаван дал в служанки дочери свою служанку Зелфу.

When morning came, there was Leah! So Jacob said to Laban, “What is this you have done to me? I served you for Rachel, didn’t I? Why have you deceived me?”

Когда настало утро, оказалось, что это Лия. Якуб сказал Лавану:

– Что ты сделал со мной? Я же служил тебе за Рахилю! Почему ты обманул меня?

Laban replied, “It is not our custom here to give the younger daughter in marriage before the older one.

Лаван ответил:

– У нас здесь нет обычая выдавать замуж младшую дочь раньше старшей.

Finish this daughter’s bridal week; then we will give you the younger one also, in return for another seven years of work.”

Заверши брачную неделю этой дочери, а потом мы дадим тебе и младшую, за другие семь лет работы.

And Jacob did so. He finished the week with Leah, and then Laban gave him his daughter Rachel to be his wife.

Якуб так и сделал: провёл неделю с Лией, а потом Лаван отдал ему в жёны свою дочь Рахилю.

Laban gave his servant Bilhah to his daughter Rachel as her attendant.

Лаван дал в служанки Рахиле свою служанку Билху.

Jacob made love to Rachel also, and his love for Rachel was greater than his love for Leah. And he worked for Laban another seven years.

Jacob’s Children

Якуб стал жить и с Рахилёй, и любил Рахилю больше, чем Лию. Он работал на Лавана ещё семь лет.

Дети Якуба

When the Lord saw that Leah was not loved, he enabled her to conceive, but Rachel remained childless.

Когда Вечный увидел, что Лия нелюбима, Он сделал её плодовитой, а Рахиля была бесплодна.

Leah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Reuben,^[b] for she said, “It is because the Lord has seen my misery. Surely my husband will love me now.”

Лия забеременела и родила сына. Она назвала его Рувим («Смотрите, сын!»), потому что сказала: «Это потому, что Вечный увидел моё несчастье.^[a] Теперь мой муж, конечно, будет меня любить».

She conceived again, and when she gave birth to a son she said, “Because the Lord heard that I am not loved, he gave me this one too.” So she named him Simeon.^[c]

Она снова забеременела, и когда родила сына, сказала: «Так как Вечный услышал, что я нелюбима, Он дал мне ещё одного сына». И она назвала его Шимон («он услышал»).

Again she conceived, and when she gave birth to a son she said, “Now at last my husband will become attached to me, because I have borne him three sons.” So he was named Levi.^[d]

Она снова забеременела, и когда родила сына, сказала: «Теперь, наконец, мой муж привяжется ко мне, потому что я родила ему трёх сыновей». Поэтому его назвали Леви («он привяжется»).

She conceived again, and when she gave birth to a son she said, “This time I will praise the Lord.” So she named him Judah.^[e] Then she stopped having children.

И снова она забеременела, и когда родила сына, сказала: «На этот раз я восхвалю Вечного». Поэтому она назвала его Иуда («хвала»). Потом она перестала рожать.
