Verse 1
While Ezra was praying and confessing, weeping and throwing himself down before the house of God, a large crowd of Israelites—men, women and children—gathered around him. They too wept bitterly.
Пока Узайр молился, признаваясь в грехах, плача и падая на землю перед домом Всевышнего, вокруг него собралась большая толпа исраильтян: мужчин, женщин и детей. Они тоже горько плакали.
Verse 2
Then Shekaniah son of Jehiel, one of the descendants of Elam, said to Ezra, “We have been unfaithful to our God by marrying foreign women from the peoples around us. But in spite of this, there is still hope for Israel.
И Шехания, сын Иехиила, один из потомков Елама, обратился к Узайру, сказав:
– Мы нарушили верность нашему Богу, женившись на чужеземках из народов, что вокруг нас. Но даже теперь у Исраила ещё есть надежда.
Verse 3
Now let us make a covenant before our God to send away all these women and their children, in accordance with the counsel of my lord and of those who fear the commands of our God. Let it be done according to the Law.
Итак, давайте заключим с нашим Богом священное соглашение, чтобы удалить от себя всех этих женщин и их детей, по совету моего господина и тех, кто благоговеет перед повелениями нашего Бога. Пусть всё будет по Закону.
Verse 4
Rise up; this matter is in your hands. We will support you, so take courage and do it.”
Поднимись, это дело в твоих руках. Мы поддержим тебя, соберись с духом и действуй.
Verse 5
So Ezra rose up and put the leading priests and Levites and all Israel under oath to do what had been suggested. And they took the oath.
Узайр поднялся и заставил главных священнослужителей, левитов и весь Исраил поклясться сделать так, как было предложено. И они поклялись.
Verse 6
Then Ezra withdrew from before the house of God and went to the room of Jehohanan son of Eliashib. While he was there, he ate no food and drank no water, because he continued to mourn over the unfaithfulness of the exiles.
Узайр удалился от дома Всевышнего и пошёл в комнату Иоханана, сына Элиашива. Пока он был там, он не ел хлеба и не пил воды, потому что скорбел о неверности переселенцев.
Verse 7
A proclamation was then issued throughout Judah and Jerusalem for all the exiles to assemble in Jerusalem.
И в Иудее, и в Иерусалиме объявили, что все переселенцы должны собраться в Иерусалиме,
Verse 8
Anyone who failed to appear within three days would forfeit all his property, in accordance with the decision of the officials and elders, and would himself be expelled from the assembly of the exiles.
а если кто-нибудь не придёт в течение трёх дней, у того – по решению вождей и старейшин – будет отобрано всё его имущество, а сам он будет изгнан из общины переселенцев.
Verse 9
Within the three days, all the men of Judah and Benjamin had gathered in Jerusalem. And on the twentieth day of the ninth month, all the people were sitting in the square before the house of God, greatly distressed by the occasion and because of the rain.
В течение трёх дней все мужчины Иуды и Вениамина собрались в Иерусалиме. И на двадцатый день девятого месяца (19 декабря 458 г. до н. э.) весь народ сидел на площади перед домом Всевышнего, дрожа из-за этого дела и из-за ливня.
Verse 10
Then Ezra the priest stood up and said to them, “You have been unfaithful; you have married foreign women, adding to Israel’s guilt.
Священнослужитель Узайр встал и сказал им:
– Вы совершили предательство: вы женились на чужеземках, увеличив вину Исраила.
Verse 11
Now honor the
Lord, the God of your ancestors, and do his will. Separate yourselves from the peoples around you and from your foreign wives.”
Итак, открыто признайтесь Вечному, Богу ваших предков, в своих грехах и исполните Его волю. Отделитесь от народов, что вокруг вас, и от ваших иноплеменных жён.
Verse 12
The whole assembly responded with a loud voice: “You are right! We must do as you say.
Всё собрание ответило громким криком:
– Ты прав! Мы должны сделать, как ты сказал.
Verse 13
But there are many people here and it is the rainy season; so we cannot stand outside. Besides, this matter cannot be taken care of in a day or two, because we have sinned greatly in this thing.
Но здесь много людей и сейчас время дождей, так что мы не можем стоять на улице. Да и дело это не на день и не два, потому что мы в этом сильно согрешили.
Verse 14
Let our officials act for the whole assembly. Then let everyone in our towns who has married a foreign woman come at a set time, along with the elders and judges of each town, until the fierce anger of our God in this matter is turned away from us.”
Пусть наши вожди представляют всё собрание. И пусть все в наших городах, кто женился на иноземках, приходят в установленное время вместе со старейшинами и судьями каждого города, пока от нас не отвратится пылающий гнев нашего Бога за это дело.
Verse 15
Only Jonathan son of Asahel and Jahzeiah son of Tikvah, supported by Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite, opposed this.
Только Ионафан, сын Асаила, и Иахзея, сын Тиквы, а с ними Мешуллам и левит Шаббетай, воспротивились этому.
Verse 16
So the exiles did as was proposed. Ezra the priest selected men who were family heads, one from each family division, and all of them designated by name. On the first day of the tenth month they sat down to investigate the cases,
Переселенцы сделали, как было предложено. Священнослужитель Узайр выбрал людей, которые были главами семейств, по одному из каждого семейства; все они были названы поимённо. В первый день десятого месяца (29 декабря 458 г. до н. э.) они сели, чтобы разбирать это дело,
Verse 17
and by the first day of the first month they finished dealing with all the men who had married foreign women.
Those Guilty of Intermarriage
и к первому дню первого месяца следующего года (

Among the descendants of the priests, the following had married foreign women:
From the descendants of Joshua son of Jozadak, and his brothers: Maaseiah, Eliezer, Jarib and Gedaliah.

Маасея, Элиезер, Иарив и Гедалия.
Verse 19
(They all gave their hands in pledge to put away their wives, and for their guilt they each presented a ram from the flock as a guilt offering.)
(Они обещали развестись со своими жёнами, и за свою вину каждый принёс барана из своей отары в жертву повинности.)

Elioenai, Maaseiah, Ishmael, Nethanel, Jozabad and Elasah.

Verse 23
Among the Levites:
Jozabad, Shimei, Kelaiah (that is, Kelita), Pethahiah, Judah and Eliezer.

From the musicians:
Eliashib.
From the gatekeepers:
Shallum, Telem and Uri.

And among the other Israelites:
From the descendants of Parosh:
Ramiah, Izziah, Malkijah, Mijamin, Eleazar, Malkijah and Benaiah.

Verse 26
From the descendants of Elam:
Mattaniah, Zechariah, Jehiel, Abdi, Jeremoth and Elijah.

From the descendants of Zattu:
Elioenai, Eliashib, Mattaniah, Jeremoth, Zabad and Aziza.

All these had married foreign women, and some of them had children by these wives.
