Exodus 17

The whole Israelite community set out from the Desert of Sin, traveling from place to place as the Lord commanded. They camped at Rephidim, but there was no water for the people to drink.

Народ Исраила отправился в путь из пустыни Син и кочевал с места на место, как повелел Вечный. Они расположились лагерем в Рефидиме, но там не было воды, чтобы утолить жажду.

So they quarreled with Moses and said, “Give us water to drink.”

Moses replied, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you put the Lord to the test?”

Они стали роптать на Мусу и говорить:

– Дай нам воды. Мы хотим пить.

Муса отвечал:

– Почему вы обвиняете меня? Зачем искушаете Вечного?

But the people were thirsty for water there, and they grumbled against Moses. They said, “Why did you bring us up out of Egypt to make us and our children and livestock die of thirst?”

Но народ страдал от жажды и роптал на Мусу. Они говорили:

– Зачем ты вывел нас из Египта? Ты хочешь уморить нас, наших детей и скот жаждой?

Then Moses cried out to the Lord, “What am I to do with these people? They are almost ready to stone me.”

Муса взмолился к Вечному:

– Что мне делать с этим народом? Они готовы побить меня камнями.

The Lord answered Moses, “Go out in front of the people. Take with you some of the elders of Israel and take in your hand the staff with which you struck the Nile, and go.

Вечный ответил Мусе:

– Возьми с собой несколько старейшин Исраила и пойди впереди народа. Возьми посох, которым ты ударил по Нилу, и иди.

I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb. Strike the rock, and water will come out of it for the people to drink.” So Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel.

Я встану перед тобой на скале в Хориве. Ударь по скале, из неё потечёт вода, и народ сможет утолить жажду.

Муса сделал так на глазах у исраильских старейшин.

And he called the place Massah^[a] and Meribah^[b] because the Israelites quarreled and because they tested the Lord saying, “Is the Lord among us or not?”

The Amalekites Defeated

Он назвал то место Масса («искушение») и Мерива («ссора»), потому что исраильтяне ссорились и искушали Вечного, говоря: «С нами Вечный или нет?»

Победа над амаликитянами

The Amalekites came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim.

Амаликитяне пришли и напали на исраильтян в Рефидиме.

Moses said to Joshua, “Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands.”

Муса сказал Иешуа:

– Выбери несколько человек из народа и выйди сразиться с амаликитянами. Завтра я встану на вершине холма с посохом Всевышнего в руках.

So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill.

Иешуа вступил в сражение с амаликитянами, как повелел Муса, а Муса, Харун и Хур поднялись на вершину холма.

As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning.

Когда Муса поднимал руки, исраильтяне побеждали, но едва он уставал и опускал руки, побеждали амаликитяне. Тогда Харун и Хур взяли камень, подвинули его к Мусе и он сел. Они поддерживали его руки – один с одной стороны, другой с другой, – и руки до заката остались тверды.

When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset.

So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword.

Так Иешуа разбил войско амаликитян.

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write this on a scroll as something to be remembered and make sure that Joshua hears it, because I will completely blot out the name of Amalek from under heaven.”

Вечный сказал Мусе:

– Запиши, чтобы помнили, в свиток и прочитай Иешуа, что Я совершенно изглажу память об Амалике из-под небес.

Moses built an altar and called it The Lord is my Banner.

Муса воздвиг жертвенник и назвал его «Вечный – моё знамя»^[a].

He said, “Because hands were lifted up against^[c] the throne of the Lord,^[d] the Lord will be at war against the Amalekites from generation to generation.”

Муса сказал:

– Мои руки были воздеты к престолу Вечного. Вечный будет воевать против амаликитян из поколения в поколение.
