Acts 7

Then the high priest asked Stephen, “Are these charges true?”

Затем верховный священнослужитель спросил Стефана:

To this he replied: “Brothers and fathers, listen to me! The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham while he was still in Mesopotamia, before he lived in Harran.

Стефан ответил:

– Братья и отцы! Выслушайте меня. Всевышний, пребывающий в славе, явился нашему праотцу Ибрахиму, когда он жил ещё в Месопотамии – до того, как он поселился в Харране.

‘Leave your country and your people,’ God said, ‘and go to the land I will show you.’^[a]

«Оставь свою страну и своих родственников, – сказал Он ему, – и иди в землю, которую Я тебе укажу».^[a]

“So he left the land of the Chaldeans and settled in Harran. After the death of his father, God sent him to this land where you are now living.

Ибрахим покинул страну халдеев и поселился в Харране. Оттуда, после смерти его отца, Всевышний переселил Ибрахима в страну, в которой вы сейчас живёте.^[b]

He gave him no inheritance here, not even enough ground to set his foot on. But God promised him that he and his descendants after him would possess the land, even though at that time Abraham had no child.

Он не дал ему здесь никакого наследия, не дал земли даже на ширину ступни. Но Всевышний обещал дать эту землю во владение ему и его потомкам^[c], хотя в то время у Ибрахима не было детей.

God spoke to him in this way: ‘For four hundred years your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own, and they will be enslaved and mistreated.

Всевышний говорил ему: «Твои потомки будут странниками в чужой земле; они будут обращены в рабство и будут терпеть зло четыреста лет.

But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves,’ God said, ‘and afterward they will come out of that country and worship me in this place.’^[b]

Но Я накажу народ, поработивший их, – сказал Всевышний, – и тогда они выйдут из той страны и будут служить Мне на этом месте».^[d]

Then he gave Abraham the covenant of circumcision. And Abraham became the father of Isaac and circumcised him eight days after his birth. Later Isaac became the father of Jacob, and Jacob became the father of the twelve patriarchs.

Затем Он дал Ибрахиму обряд обрезания как знак священного соглашения.^[e] Ибрахим стал отцом Исхака и обрезал его на восьмой день после рождения, Исхак же обрезал Якуба, а Якуб – двенадцать наших праотцев.

“Because the patriarchs were jealous of Joseph, they sold him as a slave into Egypt. But God was with him

Праотцы из зависти к Юсуфу продали его в Египет. Но Всевышний был с ним

and rescued him from all his troubles. He gave Joseph wisdom and enabled him to gain the goodwill of Pharaoh king of Egypt. So Pharaoh made him ruler over Egypt and all his palace.

и избавил его от всех бед. Он дал Юсуфу мудрость и расположение в глазах фараона, царя Египта. Тот сделал Юсуфа правителем всего Египта и поставил над всеми своими придворными.

“Then a famine struck all Egypt and Canaan, bringing great suffering, and our ancestors could not find food.

Затем во всём Египте и в Ханаане начался голод и великое бедствие, и наши праотцы не могли найти пищи.

When Jacob heard that there was grain in Egypt, he sent our forefathers on their first visit.

Когда Якуб услышал о том, что в Египте есть зерно, он послал туда наших праотцев в первый раз.

On their second visit, Joseph told his brothers who he was, and Pharaoh learned about Joseph’s family.

Когда они пришли во второй раз, Юсуф открылся своим братьям, и фараон узнал о родственниках Юсуфа.

After this, Joseph sent for his father Jacob and his whole family, seventy-five in all.

После этого Юсуф послал за своим отцом Якубом и за всеми своими родственниками, которых насчитывалось семьдесят пять человек.

Then Jacob went down to Egypt, where he and our ancestors died.

Якуб пришёл в Египет. Там умер и он, и наши праотцы.

Their bodies were brought back to Shechem and placed in the tomb that Abraham had bought from the sons of Hamor at Shechem for a certain sum of money.

Тела их были перенесены в Шехем и положены в могильную пещеру, которую Ибрахим купил за серебро у сыновей Еммора в Шехеме.^[f]

“As the time drew near for God to fulfill his promise to Abraham, the number of our people in Egypt had greatly increased.

По мере того, как приближалось время исполнения обещаний, данных Всевышним Ибрахиму, возрастала численность нашего народа в Египте.

Then ‘a new king, to whom Joseph meant nothing, came to power in Egypt.’^[c]

Так продолжалось, пока в Египте не начал править другой фараон, который ничего не знал о Юсуфе.

He dealt treacherously with our people and oppressed our ancestors by forcing them to throw out their newborn babies so that they would die.

Он притеснял наших предков, действуя с коварством против нашего народа: он заставлял их выбрасывать новорождённых младенцев, чтобы те умирали.

“At that time Moses was born, and he was no ordinary child.^[d] For three months he was cared for by his family.

В это время родился Муса; он был очень красивым ребёнком. Три месяца его вскармливали в отцовском доме,

When he was placed outside, Pharaoh’s daughter took him and brought him up as her own son.

а когда вынуждены были расстаться с ним, его подобрала дочь фараона и воспитала, как своего собственного сына.

Moses was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was powerful in speech and action.

Муса был научен всей египетской мудрости; он был силён и в слове, и в деле.^[g]

“When Moses was forty years old, he decided to visit his own people, the Israelites.

Когда ему было сорок лет, он решил навестить своих соплеменников-исраильтян.

He saw one of them being mistreated by an Egyptian, so he went to his defense and avenged him by killing the Egyptian.

Увидев, что одного из них обижает египтянин, он вступился и отомстил, убив обидчика.

Moses thought that his own people would realize that God was using him to rescue them, but they did not.

Муса думал, его народ поймёт, что Всевышний через него даёт им избавление от рабства, но они не поняли.

The next day Moses came upon two Israelites who were fighting. He tried to reconcile them by saying, ‘Men, you are brothers; why do you want to hurt each other?’

На следующий день Муса увидел, как двое исраильтян дерутся. Он попытался помирить их. «Вы же братья, – говорил он, – зачем вы обижаете друг друга?»

“But the man who was mistreating the other pushed Moses aside and said, ‘Who made you ruler and judge over us?

Тогда обидчик оттолкнул Мусу и сказал: «Кто поставил тебя начальником и судьёй над нами?

Are you thinking of killing me as you killed the Egyptian yesterday?’^[e]

Или ты хочешь убить и меня, как вчера убил египтянина?»

When Moses heard this, he fled to Midian, where he settled as a foreigner and had two sons.

Услышав такие слова, Муса бежал и поселился в Мадианской земле как чужеземец. Там у него родились два сына.^[h]

“After forty years had passed, an angel appeared to Moses in the flames of a burning bush in the desert near Mount Sinai.

Через сорок лет Мусе явился Ангел в пламени горящего тернового куста в пустыне, недалеко от горы Синай.

When he saw this, he was amazed at the sight. As he went over to get a closer look, he heard the Lord say:

Муса был поражён, когда это увидел. Он подошёл ближе, чтобы лучше рассмотреть, и услышал голос Вечного:

‘I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.’^[f] Moses trembled with fear and did not dare to look.

«Я – Бог твоих предков, Бог Ибрахима, Исхака и Якуба». Муса дрожал от страха и не решался поднять глаз.

“Then the Lord said to him, ‘Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.

Вечный сказал ему: «Сними свою обувь, потому что место, на котором ты стоишь, – святая земля.^[i]

I have indeed seen the oppression of my people in Egypt. I have heard their groaning and have come down to set them free. Now come, I will send you back to Egypt.’^[g]

Я увидел угнетение Моего народа в Египте и услышал их стоны. Я сошёл, чтобы освободить их. А теперь иди, Я посылаю тебя в Египет».^[j]

“This is the same Moses they had rejected with the words, ‘Who made you ruler and judge?’ He was sent to be their ruler and deliverer by God himself, through the angel who appeared to him in the bush.

Того самого Мусу, которого они отвергли и о котором говорили: «Кто поставил тебя начальником и судьёй?»^[k] – Всевышний посылал теперь как вождя и избавителя через Ангела, Который явился ему в терновом кусте.

He led them out of Egypt and performed wonders and signs in Egypt, at the Red Sea and for forty years in the wilderness.

Муса вывел народ, совершая чудеса и знамения в Египте, у Красного моря^[l] и в пустыне на протяжении сорока лет.

“This is the Moses who told the Israelites, ‘God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your own people.’^[h]

Этот же самый Муса сказал исраильтянам: «Из вашего народа Всевышний поставит вам Пророка, подобного мне»^[m].

He was in the assembly in the wilderness, with the angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our ancestors; and he received living words to pass on to us.

Он – тот самый человек, который был с народом Исраила, собранным в пустыне; он был посредником между Ангелом, Который говорил с ним на горе Синай, и нашими отцами. Он принял живые слова, чтобы передать их нам.

“But our ancestors refused to obey him. Instead, they rejected him and in their hearts turned back to Egypt.

Наши отцы, однако, отказались повиноваться ему, но отвергли его и захотели вернуться в Египет.

They told Aaron, ‘Make us gods who will go before us. As for this fellow Moses who led us out of Egypt—we don’t know what has happened to him!’^[i]

Они сказали Харуну: «Сделай нам богов, которые бы вели нас, потому что мы не знаем, что приключилось с этим Мусой, выведшим нас из Египта»^[n].

That was the time they made an idol in the form of a calf. They brought sacrifices to it and reveled in what their own hands had made.

В те дни они сделали золотого тельца, принесли этому идолу жертву и радовались делу своих рук.

But God turned away from them and gave them over to the worship of the sun, moon and stars. This agrees with what is written in the book of the prophets:

“Our ancestors had the tabernacle of the covenant law with them in the wilderness. It had been made as God directed Moses, according to the pattern he had seen.

У наших отцов в пустыне был шатёр со свидетельствами священного соглашения^[q]. Этот шатёр был сделан согласно указанию Всевышнего соорудить его по образцу, который увидел Муса.

After receiving the tabernacle, our ancestors under Joshua brought it with them when they took the land from the nations God drove out before them. It remained in the land until the time of David,

Получив этот священный шатёр, наши отцы под предводительством Иешуа внесли его во владения народов, которых Всевышний изгнал перед ними. И так было до времён царствования Давуда,

who enjoyed God’s favor and asked that he might provide a dwelling place for the God of Jacob.^[k]

который был любим Всевышним и просил у Него позволения построить жилище для Бога Якуба.

But it was Solomon who built a house for him.

Однако дом Ему построил Сулейман.^[r]

“However, the Most High does not live in houses made by human hands. As the prophet says:

“You stiff-necked people! Your hearts and ears are still uncircumcised. You are just like your ancestors: You always resist the Holy Spirit!

Вы – упрямый народ^[t] с необрезанными сердцами и ушами^[u]! Вы всегда противитесь Святому Духу, как и ваши отцы!

Was there ever a prophet your ancestors did not persecute? They even killed those who predicted the coming of the Righteous One. And now you have betrayed and murdered him—

Кого из пророков ваши отцы не преследовали? Они убили тех, кто предсказывал пришествие Праведного, предателями и убийцами Которого стали теперь вы!

you who have received the law that was given through angels but have not obeyed it.”

The Stoning of Stephen

Приняв Закон, переданный вам через ангелов, вы не соблюли его.

When the members of the Sanhedrin heard this, they were furious and gnashed their teeth at him.

Услышав это, они пришли в ярость и начали скрежетать зубами от злости на Стефана.

But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.

Стефан же, исполненный Святого Духа, поднял глаза к небу и увидел славу Всевышнего и Ису, стоящего по правую руку от Всевышнего^[v].

“Look,” he said, “I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.”

– Смотрите, – сказал он, – я вижу открытые небеса и Ниспосланного как Человек^[w]. Он стоит по правую руку от Всевышнего!

At this they covered their ears and, yelling at the top of their voices, they all rushed at him,

Тогда они все вместе, заткнув уши, с громким криком бросились на него.

dragged him out of the city and began to stone him. Meanwhile, the witnesses laid their coats at the feet of a young man named Saul.

Они выволокли Стефана за пределы города и стали бросать в него камни. Свидетели обвинения оставили свои плащи у ног молодого человека по имени Шаул.

While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.”

Когда они бросали в Стефана камни, тот молился:

– Повелитель Иса, прими дух мой.

Then he fell on his knees and cried out, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” When he had said this, he fell asleep.

Потом он пал на колени и громко воскликнул:

– Повелитель, не наказывай их за этот грех.

С этими словами он умер.
