1 Samuel 31

Now the Philistines fought against Israel; the Israelites fled before them, and many fell dead on Mount Gilboa.

Филистимляне воевали с Исраилом, и исраильтяне бежали от них и падали сражёнными на горе Гильбоа.

The Philistines were in hot pursuit of Saul and his sons, and they killed his sons Jonathan, Abinadab and Malki-Shua.

Филистимляне нагнали Шаула и его сыновей и убили Ионафана, Авинадава и Малик-Шуа.

The fighting grew fierce around Saul, and when the archers overtook him, they wounded him critically.

Вокруг Шаула разгорелась жестокая битва. Лучники нашли его и тяжело ранили.

Saul said to his armor-bearer, “Draw your sword and run me through, or these uncircumcised fellows will come and run me through and abuse me.”

But his armor-bearer was terrified and would not do it; so Saul took his own sword and fell on it.

Шаул сказал своему оруженосцу:

– Обнажи свой меч и заколи меня, иначе эти необрезанные придут, станут глумиться надо мной и убьют меня.

Но оруженосец не решился сделать это, потому что очень испугался. Тогда Шаул взял свой собственный меч и бросился на него.

When the armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he too fell on his sword and died with him.

Когда оруженосец увидел, что Шаул мёртв, он тоже бросился на свой меч и умер вместе с ним.

So Saul and his three sons and his armor-bearer and all his men died together that same day.

Так Шаул, три его сына, оруженосец и все его люди погибли в тот день.

When the Israelites along the valley and those across the Jordan saw that the Israelite army had fled and that Saul and his sons had died, they abandoned their towns and fled. And the Philistines came and occupied them.

Увидев, что исраильское войско разбежалось, а Шаул и его сыновья погибли, исраильтяне, которые жили на другой стороне долины и за Иорданом, оставили свои города и тоже бежали. А филистимляне пришли и заняли их.

The next day, when the Philistines came to strip the dead, they found Saul and his three sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.

На следующий день, когда филистимляне пришли грабить мёртвых, они нашли Шаула и трёх его сыновей, павших на горе Гильбоа.

They cut off his head and stripped off his armor, and they sent messengers throughout the land of the Philistines to proclaim the news in the temple of their idols and among their people.

Они отсекли ему голову, сняли с него оружие и послали вестников по всей филистимской земле, чтобы возвестить об этом в капище своих идолов и народу.

They put his armor in the temple of the Ashtoreths and fastened his body to the wall of Beth Shan.

Они положили его оружие в храме Астарты и повесили его тело на стене Бет-Шеана.

When the people of Jabesh Gilead heard what the Philistines had done to Saul,

Когда жители Иавеша Галаадского услышали о том, что филистимляне сделали с Шаулом,

all their valiant men marched through the night to Beth Shan. They took down the bodies of Saul and his sons from the wall of Beth Shan and went to Jabesh, where they burned them.

то все их храбрые воины отправились в путь, шли всю ночь и, придя в Бет-Шеан, сняли тела Шаула и его сыновей со стены. Они пришли в Иавеш и сожгли их там.

Then they took their bones and buried them under a tamarisk tree at Jabesh, and they fasted seven days.

Потом они взяли их кости, похоронили под тамариском в Иавеше и постились семь дней.
