Verse 1
Here is the story of Shem, Ham and Japheth. They were Noah’s sons. After the flood, they also had sons.
The Sons of Japheth
Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood.
Verse 2
The sons of Japheth were
Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshek and Tiras.
The sons of Japheth; Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras.
Verse 3
The sons of Gomer were
Ashkenaz, Riphath and Togarmah.
And the sons of Gomer; Ashkenaz, and Riphath, and Togarmah.
Verse 4
The sons of Javan were
Elishah, Tarshish, the Kittites and the Rodanites.
And the sons of Javan; Elishah, and Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.
Verse 5
From these people came the families who lived near the Mediterranean Sea. Each tribe and nation then spread out into its own territory and had its own language.
The Sons of Ham
By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations.
Verse 6
The sons of Ham were
Cush, Egypt, Put and Canaan.
And the sons of Ham; Cush, and Mizraim, and Phut, and Canaan.
Verse 7
The sons of Cush were
Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah and Sabteka.
The sons of Raamah were
Sheba and Dedan.
And the sons of Cush; Seba, and Havilah, and Sabtah, and Raamah, and Sabtechah: and the sons of Raamah; Sheba, and Dedan.
Verse 8
Cush was the father of Nimrod. Nimrod became a mighty hero on the earth.
And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth.
Verse 9
He was a mighty hunter in the Lord’s eyes. That’s why people sometimes compare others with Nimrod. They say, “They are like Nimrod, who was a mighty hunter in the Lord’s eyes.”
He was a mighty hunter before the Lord: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the Lord.
Verse 10
The first capital cities of Nimrod’s kingdom were Babylon, Uruk, Akkad and Kalneh. These cities were in the land of Babylon.
And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.
Verse 11
From that land he went to Assyria. There he built Nineveh, Rehoboth Ir and Calah.
Out of that land went forth Asshur, and builded Nineveh, and the city Rehoboth, and Calah,
Verse 12
He also built Resen, which is between Nineveh and Calah. Nineveh is the most famous city.
And Resen between Nineveh and Calah: the same is a great city.
Verse 13
Egypt was the father of
the Ludites, Anamites, Lehabites, Naphtuhites,
And Mizraim begat Ludim, and Anamim, and Lehabim, and Naphtuhim,
Verse 14
Pathrusites, Kasluhites and Caphtorites. The Philistines came from the Kasluhites.
And Pathrusim, and Casluhim, (out of whom came Philistim,) and Caphtorim.
Verse 15
Canaan was the father of Sidon.
Sidon was his oldest son. Canaan was also the father of the Hittites,
And Canaan begat Sidon his first born, and Heth,
Verse 16
Jebusites, Amorites and Girgashites.
And the Jebusite, and the Amorite, and the Girgasite,
Verse 17
And he was the father of the Hivites, Arkites, Sinites,
And the Hivite, and the Arkite, and the Sinite,
Verse 18
Arvadites, Zemarites and Hamathites.
Later the Canaanite tribes scattered.
And the Arvadite, and the Zemarite, and the Hamathite: and afterward were the families of the Canaanites spread abroad.
Verse 19
The borders of Canaan reached from Sidon toward Gerar all the way to Gaza. Then they continued toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboyim all the way to Lasha.
And the border of the Canaanites was from Sidon, as thou comest to Gerar, unto Gaza; as thou goest, unto Sodom, and Gomorrah, and Admah, and Zeboim, even unto Lasha.
Verse 20
These are the sons of Ham. They are listed by their tribes and languages in their territories and nations.
The Sons of Shem
These are the sons of Ham, after their families, after their tongues, in their countries, and in their nations.
Verse 21
Sons were also born to Shem, Japheth’s younger brother. All the sons of Eber belonged to Shem’s family line.
Unto Shem also, the father of all the children of Eber, the brother of Japheth the elder, even to him were children born.
Verse 22
The sons of Shem were
Elam, Ashur, Arphaxad, Lud and Aram.
The children of Shem; Elam, and Asshur, and Arphaxad, and Lud, and Aram.
Verse 23
The sons of Aram were
Uz, Hul, Gether and Meshek.
And the children of Aram; Uz, and Hul, and Gether, and Mash.
Verse 24
Arphaxad was the father of Shelah.
Shelah was the father of Eber.
And Arphaxad begat Salah; and Salah begat Eber.
Verse 25
Eber had two sons.
One was named Peleg. That’s because the earth was divided up in his time. His brother was named Joktan.
And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg; for in his days was the earth divided; and his brother's name was Joktan.
Verse 26
Joktan was the father of
Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,
And Joktan begat Almodad, and Sheleph, and Hazarmaveth, and Jerah,
Verse 27
Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,
And Hadoram, and Uzal, and Diklah,
Verse 28
Obal, Abimael, Sheba,
And Obal, and Abimael, and Sheba,
Verse 29
Ophir, Havilah and Jobab. They were all sons of Joktan.
And Ophir, and Havilah, and Jobab: all these were the sons of Joktan.
Verse 30
The area where they lived stretched from Mesha toward Sephar. It was in the eastern hill country.
And their dwelling was from Mesha, as thou goest unto Sephar a mount of the east.
Verse 31
These are the sons of Shem. They are listed by their tribes and languages in their territories and nations.
These are the sons of Shem, after their families, after their tongues, in their lands, after their nations.
Verse 32
These are the tribes of Noah’s sons. They are listed by their family lines within their nations. From them the nations spread out over the earth after the flood.
These are the families of the sons of Noah, after their generations, in their nations: and by these were the nations divided in the earth after the flood.
