Judges 9:28

Gaal the son of Ebed said, “Who is Abimelech, and who is Shechem, that we should serve him? Is he not [merely] the son of Jerubbaal and is Zebul not his lieutenant? Serve the men of Hamor the father (founder) of Shechem. Why then should we serve Abimelech?

And Gaal the son of Ebed said, Who is Abimelech, and who is Shechem, that we should serve him? is not he the son of Jerubbaal? and Zebul his officer? serve the men of Hamor the father of Shechem: for why should we serve him?

Then Gaal the son of Ebed said, “Who is Abimelech, and who is Shechem, that we should serve him? Is he not the son of Jerubbaal, and is Zebul not his [v]lieutenant? Serve the men of Hamor the father of Shechem; but why should we serve him?

Then Gaal, the son of Ebed, said, “Who is Abimelek? And who is Shechem? Why should we citizens of Shechem be under Abimelek’s rule? Isn’t he Jerub-Baal’s son? Isn’t Zebul his helper? It would be better to serve the family of Hamor. He was the father of Shechem. So why should we serve Abimelek?

Then Gaal son of Ebed said, “Who is Abimelek, and why should we Shechemites be subject to him? Isn’t he Jerub-Baal’s son, and isn’t Zebul his deputy? Serve the family of Hamor, Shechem’s father! Why should we serve Abimelek?

Then Gaal son of Ebed said, ‘Who is Abimelek, and why should we Shechemites be subject to him? Isn’t he Jerub-Baal’s son, and isn’t Zebul his deputy? Serve the family of Hamor, Shechem’s father! Why should we serve Abimelek?

“Who is Abimelech?” Gaal shouted. “He’s not a true son of Shechem,[d] so why should we be his servants? He’s merely the son of Gideon, and this Zebul is merely his deputy. Serve the true sons of Hamor, the founder of Shechem. Why should we serve Abimelech?

فَقَالَ جَعَلُ بْنُ عَابِدٍ: «مَنْ هُوَ أَبِيمَالِكُ وَمَنْ هُوَ شَكِيمُ حَتَّى نَخْدُمَهُ؟ أَمَا هُوَ ابْنُ يَرُبَّعَلَ وَزَبُولُ هُوَ وَكِيلُهُ؟ اخْدِمُوا رِجَالَ حَمُورَ أَبِي شَكِيمَ. لِمَاذَا عَلَيْنَا أَنْ نَخْدُمَ أَبِيمَالِكَ؟

„Hvad bilder den Abimelek sig ind?” råbte Ga’al. „Hvad ret har han til at herske over os her i Sikem? Han er jo en søn af Gideon, som bare har indsat Zebul som guvernør over byen. Hvis nogen skulle herske over os, burde det være Hamors efterkommere, ikke Abimelek!

Gaal rief: »Wer ist denn dieser Abimelech schon? Warum sollen wir Sichemiter ihm dienen, diesem Sohn von Gideon? Meint er etwa, wir würden uns Sebul unterwerfen, den er uns als Aufseher vorgesetzt hat? Was glaubt er eigentlich, wer wir sind? Gehorcht lieber den Männern aus der Sippe von Hamor, der diese Stadt gegründet hat!

Gaal hijo de Ébed dijo: «¿Quién se cree Abimélec, y qué es Siquén, para que tengamos que estar sometidos a él? ¿No es acaso el hijo de Yerubaal, y no es Zebul su delegado? ¡Que sirvan a los hombres de Jamor, el padre de Siquén! ¿Por qué habremos de servir a Abimélec?

A ce moment-là, Gaal s’écria : Qu’est-ce qu’un Abimélek par rapport à Sichem, pour que nous nous laissions dominer par cet homme ? Après tout, ce n’est qu’un fils de Yeroubbaal et il fait gouverner la ville par son lieutenant Zeboul ! Ce sont les descendants de Hamor[c], le père de Sichem, qu’il vous faut comme maîtres, mais Abimélek n’a aucun titre à notre soumission.
